Eric Church sends his 'Soul' to the top five on the 'Billboard' 200

Eric Church is back at the top of the charts.

His latest album Soul, the last of the Heart & Soul trilogy, has debuted at #4 on the all-genre Billboard 200 following its April 23 release. Of the 53,000 equivalent album units earned, 42,000 were album sales.

Soul’s top-five debut comes one week after the first release of the trilogy, Heart, came in at #5 on the Billboard 200. This makes the country star the first artist in four years to have multiple projects bow inside the top 10 on the chart in two consecutive weeks since 2017, when rapper Future sent two back-to-back albums to number one.

Heart & Soul was released over the course of two weeks in April. The middle album, &, was made available exclusively to members of Eric’s fan club, Church Choir.

Additionally, the Chief has replaced himself at the top of the Billboard Top Albums Sales chart, where Soul comes in at #1, dethroning Heart, which also debuted at #1 last week.

Eric’s single “Hell of a View,” featured on Soul, is inching its way toward the top of the charts. It currently sits inside the top 10 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

'Buy Dirt': Jordan Davis releasing new EP this month

Jordan Davis is ready to Buy Dirt on his upcoming EP.

The “Singles You Up” hitmaker announced on Monday that his new eight-song EP is dropping May 21, featuring a collaboration with Luke Bryan on the title track.

In a trailer for the project, Jordan shares that the COVID-19 shutdown allowed him to reset and reconnect with his songwriting, which led to the EP, on which he co-wrote all but one of the songs, including his current single, “Almost Maybes.”

Buy Dirt follows Jordan’s 2018 debut album, Home State, that features three consecutive #1 hits: “Singles You Up,” “Take It from Me” and “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot.”

“I’ve always loved artists who take risks. I’m in a different spot in my life than I was when I released Home State. We all are!” says Jordan.

“2020 was a tough time for everyone. I was able to use that time to recenter some things in my world, and I didn’t want those lessons to go to waste,” Jordan goes on about Buy Dirt. “I wanted to create something special. The best way to that was to write honestly, and we did a lot of that on this record.”

Additionally, Jordan shares that he pitched Luke Bryan the idea of collaborating after a conversation they had at a golf tournament. “Luke isn’t just a great entertainer; he’s a great Dad, a great husband, and a great friend, too,” Jordan says. “That’s what ‘Buy Dirt’ embodies. When I wrote ‘Buy Dirt,’ I knew he could relate to the song’s message.”

Jordan will serve as one of the opening acts on Kane Brown‘s Blessed and Free Tour, launching in October.

Trisha Yearwood's “grateful” to get COVID-19 vaccine

Trisha Yearwood has received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The singer shared a photo on Instagram of herself wearing a mask that reads “Stay Safe” while a medical professional injects her with the vaccine.

“This #EveryGirl finally got her first dose of the vaccine! To all who made this day possible, thank you,” Trisha captions the post, adding #grateful.

Trisha’s husband, Garth Brooks, announced earlier this year that Trisha had tested positive for the virus and in March, Trisha revealed that she was COVID free. Last week, she shared on The Kelly Clarkson Show that she still doesn’t have her full sense of taste and smell back.

“I know there's a lot of talk about whether or not, whether to,” Trisha said about vaccine hesitancy during her Facebook Live show, Coffee Talkover the weekend. “For me, when I found out that we were going to have a vaccine and that I was going to be able to get the vaccine and that we in the world were going to be able to be vaccinated, I cried because I feel like it's a gift from God.”

3 dead, 27 injured after boat capsizes in San Diego

Three people are dead and 27 more were injured after a boat believed to be a “smuggling vessel” overturned off the coast of San Diego on Sunday. Rick Romero, San Diego Fire Rescue lifeguard lieutenant, said during a press conference that the agency received a call around 10 a.m. from a commercial assistance vessel reporting a vessel offshore near the surf line that appeared to be in trouble.

A total of about 30 people were on the boat at the time of the incident, exceeding its capacity, and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent Jeff Stephenson said there was “every indication” the boat was being used to smuggle migrants into the United States illegally. Romero said that injuries ranged from hypothermia to damage related to the boat breaking apart.

Republicans Susan Wright and Jake Ellzey advance to runoff for House seat in special Texas election

Republicans Susan Wright and state Rep. Jake Ellzey will advance to a runoff in the special election to fill a North Texas congressional seat.

Wright, the widow of Rep. Ron Wright and a longtime activist in local GOP politics, emerged from the 23-person field as one of the top two candidates to represent the 6th Congressional District, winning more than 19 percent of the vote. She was first to advance to the runoff. Ellzey advanced after the third-place candidate, Jana Lynne Sanchez, conceded Sunday morning. A runoff will take place because none of the candidates met the 50 percent threshold required to win outright.

A Republican has represented the district, a suburban swath of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, for more than 30 years. The special election came about because of Ron Wright’s death after he contracted Covid-19. Trump endorsed his widow just days before the election, and after she advanced to the runoff, Trump said in a statement Sunday: “Congratulations to Susan Wright on her great surge yesterday which made her NUMBER ONE and assures her participation in the TX-06 runoff against another Republican.”

Reba's spending Four Good Days with Glenn Close and Mila Kunis

Reba McEntire — the singer — was back in theaters this weekend, performing the featured song in the new Glenn Close/Mila Kunis film, Four Good Days

“Well, the movie's about a mother/daughter relationship dealing with drug addiction,” the Country Music Hall of Famer explains. “It's very emotional.”

In a world still upended from the COVID-19 pandemic, Reba believes the DianeWarren-penned “Somehow You Do” can soothe our sorrows.

“I definitely feel like the fans can relate to the overall message of this song,” Reba reflects. “It does give hope when you're down, depressed and you're having problems in life.”

“This song gives hope, and that's what we all need,” she adds.

Meanwhile, Reba — the actress — continues making appearances as a recurring character on Young Sheldon, playing the ex-wife of Craig T. Nelson and the frenemy of Annie Potts‘ iconic Meemaw.
