Lady A will show 'What a Song Can Do' on 'GMA''s Summer Concert Series Friday morning

Country trio Lady A will appear on Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series Friday morning at 7:00 local time, performing two songs off their just-released new project, What a Song Can Do.

The band will crank up the fun with their new single, “Like a Lady,” as well as offering the more reflective and poignant album cut, “Fire,” which all three members of Lady A had a hand in writing.

They're the first country act appearing on GMA's annual lineup, which kicked off May 28. Jimmie Allen and Brad Paisley will perform July 5, just three days after Lady A takes the stage. Other country artists slated to join the Summer Concert Series include Dierks Bentley, Old Dominion and others.

What a Song Can Do, the band's seven-song project, arrived last week. The band mates have said that their newest album emerged from a mindset of introspection and personal growth, and at least one member of the group had a hand in writing each track.

After their GMA stop, Lady A has a busy schedule planned for the rest of the summer. Their What a Song Can Do Tour launches July 29.

Trisha Yearwood's cooking show nabs two Daytime Emmy nominations

Trisha Yearwood has scored two 2021 Daytime Emmy nods for her Food Network cooking show, Trisha's Southern Kitchen.

The program is nominated for “Outstanding Culinary Program” and “Outstanding Multiple Camera Editing.” In the former category, Trisha's up against shows like PBS' Pati's Mexican Table, Eater's Mise en Place and the Food Network's Barefoot Contessa: Cook Like a Pro.

Trisha's nominations come as part of the nominees reveal for the event's kids, animation and lifestyle categories, Deadline reports. The 48th annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony took place earlier this month, but winners in the newly-announced categories will be celebrated in two separate, livestreamed events on July 17 and 18.

It's been a busy month for Trisha, who announced earlier in June that she's planning a deluxe release of her 2019 Every Girl album for this August. The new packaging will include a new, acoustic recording of her breakout hit “She's in Love with the Boy,” to celebrate the song's 30th anniversary.

“Cold As You”: Luke Combs reveals his next radio single and teases new music ahead

Luke Combs' next hit in the making is “Cold As You,” a raging heartbreak anthem that comes off the late 2020 deluxe version of his second studio album, called What You See Ain't Always What You Get.

The singer shared the news with fans on social media, posting an image of an old-school jukebox selection board with his name and the title of the song written across the top. Snippets of lyrics from “Cold As You” appear on the selection list, with the word “Bootlegger” — Luke's name for those in his official fan club — spelled out across the bottom of the picture.

“Cold As You” will be the seventh and final single off Luke's blockbuster sophomore album, which has so far produced six number-one hits. Before that, his debut album, This One's for You, spawned five singles, each of which hit the top of the charts.

That means that of the 11 songs Luke has sent to radio since the beginning of his career, none of them have fallen short of the number-one spot. He'll try and add to that impressive record one more time with “Cold As You” before heading into his next musical chapter.

“Excited to let y'all know Cold As You' will be my next song on the radio, then it's time for NEW MUSIC,” the singer added.

Luke's already got a head start on the new music to come, thanks to his habit of sharing unreleased snippets of songs with his fans. This spring, he's previewed album number three with brand-new songs like “See Me Now” and “Joe.”

Robinhood ordered to pay $70M for negligence and misleading info

On Wednesday, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”) levied its largest fine ever against popular investing app Robinhood. Robinhood, known for letting customers trade stocks through an app, will pay $57 million in fines in addition to $12.6 million in restitution to customers.  FINRA is a nonprofit, self-regulatory agency that oversees member brokerages and exchanges.

FINRA found that Robinhood violated regulations and showed false and misleading information to customers. Some customers were allowed to place trades with borrowed money, even though they’d turned off that setting in the app, according to FINRA. Others saw inaccurate negative cash balances. Robinhood also failed to report a variety of customer complaints to FINRA, and suffered a number of outages from 2018 through 2021 that caused customer losses, most prominently during the GameStop stock surge. FINRA determined that the outages and system failures were partially due to the lack of a proper continuity plan.

Bill Cosby is released from prison after Pennsylvania high court overturns sex assault conviction

Pennsylvania’s highest court overturned Bill Cosby’s sex assault conviction Wednesday, after finding an agreement with a previous prosecutor prevented him from being charged in the case. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Cosby was released from prison on Wednesday afternoon, after serving more than two years of a three- to 10-year sentence at a state prison near Philadelphia. He had vowed to serve all 10 years rather than acknowledge any remorse over the 2004 encounter with accuser Andrea Constand.

In a statement Wednesday afternoon, District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said, “The majority decision by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court orders the release of William H. Cosby Jr. from state prison. He was found guilty by a jury and now goes free on a procedural issue that is irrelevant to the facts of the crime.”  The 83-year-old Cosby was convicted of drugging and molesting Constand at his suburban estate. The trial judge had allowed just one other accuser to testify at Cosby’s first trial, when the jury deadlocked. However, he then allowed five other accusers to testify at the retrial about their experiences with Cosby in the 1980s. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court said that testimony tainted the trial, even though a lower appeals court had found it appropriate to show a signature pattern of drugging and molesting women.

In May, Cosby was denied paroled after refusing to participate in sex offender programs during his nearly three years in state prison. He was adamant that he would resist any treatment programs and refuse to acknowledge wrongdoing even if it meant serving the full 10-year sentence.

Cody Johnson put on three-week vocal rest

Cody Johnson has been forced to take a brief, three-week break due to being put on vocal rest. He recently addressed his “CoJo Nation” fanbase with a message on social media: “Coming off of the road after an incredible weekend to some not so exciting news. Unfortunately, my ENT Dr. of over 8 years has put me on vocal rest for the next three weeks. God willing, this will be an isolated incident, and as of right now, there is no concern about long-term damage. However, I would appreciate y’all keeping me in your prayers for a safe and speedy recovery. I can’t wait to get back out there doing what I love. Thank you for understanding during this difficult time.”

Johnson sold-out his recent two-night stint at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, and last weekend he played Fort Worth, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In addition to sold-out shows, Johnson has previously said he is working on a double-album to release later this year.
