Kelsea Ballerini shares the Dolly-ism that has stayed with her since her first conversation with Dolly Parton

Kelsea Ballerini duetted with living legend and fellow East Tennessee native Dolly Parton on the stage of this week's ACM Awards, and the younger star shared her excitement over the duet with a series of photos and video clips that she could only describe as “The Dolly Dump.”

In one of those videos, Kelsea asks Dolly, “How long does it take to do your hair?” To which Dolly responds, “How would I know? I'm never there.”

It's a classic Dolly-ism, and far from the first time Kelsea's gotten to be on the receiving end of the country legend's notorious wit. On ACM night, Kelsea told Cosmopolitan that early on in her career, she interviewed Dolly for a Q&A Series.

At the end of all the “thoughtful questions about how East Tennessee impacted her music and what it's been like defying the odds and being such a successful woman in country music,” Kelsea had one more question, she remembers.

“My very last question was, Dolly, how do you play guitar with your nails like that?' She looked at me and deadpanned, Good. I play it real good.'”

All these years later, sharing the stage with Dolly at the ACMs was “full circle,” Kelsea continued. The pair sang “Big Dreams and Faded Jeans,” off of the companion album to Dolly's brand new book, Run Rose Run.

Self-described “emotional dude” Jimmie Allen has been trying for years to write about his dad

Jimmie Allen's got a trick for when he feels himself getting emotional onstage: He tags in his guitar player for an extended solo so he has time to compose himself.

There might be more guitar solos on Jimmie's near future. He just released “Down Home,” a song inspired by his dad, who died in 2019. Jimmie debuted the song onstage at the ACM Awards, on what happened to also be his mom's birthday.

Jimmie's guitarist, Tate Howell, had been encouraging the singer to write a song about his dad for years now, the star tells CMT. Tate was a co-writer on “Down Home,” which Jimmie describes as a letter to his late father.

“I just talked about him and let him know that we miss him, and that he's the reason why I fell in love with country music,” Jimmie recounts. “I feel like it was time. I feel in the right place, mentally, where I wanted to write that song, and I wanted to play it out, you know, for me.”

But the song wasn't just for him, Jimmie continues: “There's a lot of other people that lose a parent, and they're going through the same thing.”

The toughest part of performing “Down Home”? The line where Jimmie sings “I've got a daughter now,” he says. The star's dad met his oldest son, Aadyn, but since he died, Jimmie's welcomed two baby girls, Naomi and Zara.

Dow falls 184 points after U.S. bans imports of Russian oil

After President Joe Biden announced a ban on Russian oil imports on Tuesday, the U.S. Stock Market closed the day with losses, giving up earlier gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 184.74 points after having risen more than 585 points earlier in the session, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.72% as both indexes fell deeper into correction territory. The Nasdaq Composite fell further into bear market territory, sliding to 0.28%.

Markets turned around as investors weighed Biden’s announcement prohibiting all U.S. sales and imports of Russian oil to hold Moscow accountable for an “unprovoked and unjustified war on Ukraine.” The national average for U.S. gas prices also rose to $4.17 per gallon, exceeding the prior record of $4.11 from July 2008 which was not adjusted for inflation. Rising oil prices brought on by the conflict as well as broad increases in commodities amid rising inflation caused concern of a recession among investors.

Texas man found guilty of storming capitol in first trial regarding Jan. 6 attack

A Texas man was convicted on Tuesday on five counts for participating in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.  The guilty verdict is a milestone victory for federal prosecutors in what was the first trial among hundreds of cases arising from last year’s riot. More than 775 people have been arrested in connection with the deadly insurrection, while more than 200 of them have already pleaded guilty, according to data from the Justice Department. More than 100 people have already been sentenced.

The federal jury in Washington, D.C., deliberated for 4 hours, convicting Guy Wesley Reffitt of obstructing Congress’ joint session to certify the Electoral College vote on Jan. 6, 2021, of interfering with police officers who were guarding the Capitol and of threatening his two teenage children if they reported him to law enforcement after the attack. Jurors deliberated about three hours and convicted him on all counts.

Reffitt, a member of the extremist Texas Three Percenters militia who lives in Wylie, Texas, was turned in to police by his teenage son, Jackson Reffitt. The younger Reffitt testified against his father during the trial last week. He told the court his father bragged about being on the Capitol steps with a weapon and appeared to be proud of his participation in the riots.  Jackson Reffitt said his father threatened to shoot him if he turned him in, saying his father told him and his younger sister after he returned home from Washington D.C.: “If you turn me in, you’re a traitor, and traitors get shot.”  Jackson Reffitt said he recorded conversations with Guy Reffitt, who confirmed he brought a weapon onto the Capitol grounds.

Carrie Underwood on what's next: “I'm always working on something”

Carrie Underwood has something up her sleeve, but she’s playing coy regarding what it is.

“I’m always I’m always working on something. Obviously, we can’t spill too many beans right now, but my fans know what I mean when I say ‘soon,'” she says with a laugh. “They actually hate it when I use that word because they’re like, ‘What does that mean?’ But it’s been been busy, for sure.”

While fans are eager to know what she has in store, the superstar has been keeping busy over the past few years. She released her last studio album, the acclaimed Cry Pretty, in 2018. One year later, she welcomed her son Jacob and hit the road on the Cry Pretty Tour 360.

The powerhouse singer has spent the past two years mainly focusing on her first Christmas album, My Gift, and companion gospel album, My Savior, both of which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums charts, and in the top five on the all-genre Billboard 200.

The Cobra Kai fan also made a recent appearance in the season four finale of the Netflix series, performing “The Moment of Truth” from the soundtrack of the original Karate Kid.

Additionally, she and Jason Aldean took the stage at Monday night’s ACM Awards for a performance of their duet, “If I Didn’t Love You,” which was also named Single of the Year.

LOCASH share new rendition of their song “Beach Boys” featuring members of The Beach Boys

LOCASH is joined by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys on their new single “Beach Boys.”

Beach Boys was originally released as a solo version on LOCASH’s ‘Woods & Water EP before it was discovered by The Beach Boys themselves. The duo was invited to join The Beach Boys (and John Stamos) on stage during a sold-out show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium back in February to perform “Beach Boys” live for the first time, as a part of The Beach Boys 60th anniversary celebration.

Beach Boys was written by LOCASH’s Chris Lucas and Preston Brust, alongside Dallas Wilson, Jared Mullins, Brian Wilson, and Mike Love.  Brust shares: “The day we wrote ‘Beach Boys,’ I remember Chris and I dreaming of recording it with The Beach Boys. We never imagined that they’d hear it, let alone get the chance to lay down our parts with Mike [Love] and Bruce [Johnston] and actually feel like we were a part of a group that we’ve idolized for so long! It’s crazy how it all became a reality and now the fun really begins!”

Mike Love of The Beach Boys added: “We had a blast collaborating with Chris and Preston of LOCASH! The song is so hooky – I can’t get it out of my head. I love mixing it up! Country Rock met Surf Rock and created a fun summer hit!”
