Steve Bannon, former advisor to Donald Trump, agrees to testify before Jan. 6 committee

Steve Bannon, former advisor to Pres. Donald Trump, has agreed to testify before the House committee that’s investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection.  Bannon had been set to go on trial next week on criminal contempt charges for refusing to cooperate with the probe of the Capitol riot.  He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of contempt of Congress, and faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a fine of up to $100,000 for each count if convicted.

Bannon’s lawyer argued that he was adhering to the assertion of executive privilege that had been claimed by Trump, which allegedly barred Bannon from providing the materials requested by the select committee. However on Saturday, Trump sent a letter to Bannon that waived executive privilege. Trump wrote in the letter:  “When you first received the Subpoena to testify and provide documents, I invoked Executive Privilege. However, I watched how unfairly you and others have been treated, having to spend vast amounts of money on legal fees, and all of the trauma you must be going through for the love of your Country, and out of respect for the Office of the President. Therefore, if you reach an agreement on a time and place for your testimony, I will waive Executive Privilege for you, which allows you to go in and testify truthfully and fairly.”

Bannon’s lawyer Bob Costello sent the letter to the Jan. 6 committee, adding:  “While Mr. Bannon has been steadfast in his convictions, circumstances have now changed. Mr. Bannon is willing to, and indeed prefers, to testify at your public hearing.”

Happy chaos, budding musicians — and yes, a “New Truck”: Dylan Scott shares a glimpse into his home life

Dylan Scott's newest single, “New Truck,” is about getting rid of an otherwise-great vehicle because it holds too many memories of a lost love. In real life, though, he'd be much more likely to part ways with a truck because his mischievous young kids did something to ruin it.

“The kids are bad in a good way,” the singer laughs to ABC Audio, speaking of his two-year-old daughter Finley and four-year-old son Beckett. “They're just all over the place getting into everything. So, makes my life fun.”

It might sound counterintuitive, but the chaos is actually good for his career. “It gets my mind off music here and there, so I don't have to sit here and just think about music 24/7,” Dylan explains. “Thank God for kids and wives. It's good.”

Of course, sometimes the two worlds intersect: For example, Beckett is a bit of a budding musician, and his favorite artist to cover is his country star dad.

“I got him a drum set. He wants me to play guitar with him so he can sing,” Dylan continues. “He sings all my music. Hooked' and My Girl' and Nobody' and all that stuff. So it's cool to see that.”

As for the real-life inspiration behind “New Truck”? That just might be the first new truck the singer ever bought.

“My first brand-new truck was a Ford F-250. It was a few years ago,” he details. “Man, that was an awesome truck. I'm a Ford guy. I don't have it anymore, though. I wish I did.”

Kelsea Ballerini shares the video for her new single ‘Heartfirst’

Kelsea Ballerini has released the official music video for her latest single “Heartfirst.”

The music video finds Ballerini as a girl who bumps into a guy on the street and instantly falls for him, and shows Ballerini riding a rollercoaster through the clouds, singing and playing a guitar next to a cheetah in the desert.  Said Ballerini: “This is only the second time I’ve written a video treatment, but I just had such a strong visual while writing ‘Heartfirst’ that I couldn’t get out of my head. I wanted each vignette to represent a different side of the metaphor of chance while maintaining a breezy, whimsy-ness throughout. We start with a ’90s rom-com run-in, and then we go on a journey of my character’s reaction.”

“Heartfirst” is the debut single from Ballerini’s forthcoming fourth album, which does not have a release date yet.

Charlie Puth shares release date and artwork for upcoming self-titled album “Charlie”

Charlie Puth shared the release date and official artwork for his upcoming album, which the singer said will be titled ‘Charlie’.

Puth released the following statement on Instagram: “This album was born on the internet, and I’ve had so much fun making it in front of all of you this past year. 2019 me used to think that in order to be an artist, you had to hide away and talk to nobody to make your art. Turns out you make MUCH better art when you involve millions of people in the process. (For me at least.) I hope you scream cry every word when I sing these songs on tour because they wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you.”

‘Charlie’ will be Puth’s third studio album and the follow-up to 2018’s Voicenotes and 2016’s Nine Track Mind.

Shawn Mendes postpones tour to focus on mental health

Shawn Mendes has announced on social media that he is taking a break from touring to focus on his mental health.

The 23-year-old Mendes wrote in a statement shared on both Instagram and Twitter: “This breaks my heart to have to say this, but unfortunately I’m going to have to postpone the next three weeks of shows through Uncasville, CT until further notice. I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family. After a few years off the road, I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I’ve hit a breaking point. After speaking with my team and health professionals, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost. As soon as there are more updates I promise I will let you know. Love you guys.”

Mendes released his “Wonder” album in December 2020, and the “Wonder” world tour kicked off June 27 in Portland, Oregon.  According to the “Wonder” world tour website, Mendes’ next show following the three-week postponement will be in Toronto, Canada on July 31. The North American leg of the tour is set to continue through October 26, with European shows beginning in May 31, 2023 and ending August 1, 2023.

Jason Aldean sends “That's What Tequila Does” to country radio as he gears up for tour

Jason Aldean keeps the moody, broody themes going with his next single, “That's What Tequila Does.”

The song, which comes off the Macon half of his Macon, Georgia double album, is an angsty, heartache anthem that keeps searching for one more night with the one he loves — with a little help from a shot of tequila.

Jason's new single follows another heartache banger, “Trouble With a Heartbreak,” which recently became his 27th career number-one hit. Prior to releasing “Tequila,” both of the singles off Macon, Georgia — including “If I Didn't Love You,” his duet with Carrie Underwood — hit the top of the country charts.

The singer says that he decided to make “Tequila” a single after seeing fans’ reactions to the song.

“We had a chance to play this song at CMA Fest a couple weeks ago, and the crowd's reaction helped solidify this as the next single,” he explains. “I'm looking forward to kicking things off on the road next week, and I feel like this song is going to have a big moment during our set.”

Jason's Rock N' Roll Cowboy Tour launches July 15 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It'll keep the star busy through late October.

Carrie Underwood's 'Denim & Rhinestones' gets new packaging with a special purple vinyl release

Carrie Underwood's Denim & Rhinestones album has been out for under a month, but it's already getting a makeover: She's releasing the record on special purple vinyl.

Along with the new vinyl, signed CD and vinyl box sets of Denim & Rhinestones are also available. Those include a number of extra perks like an exclusive t-shirt, rhinestone pack, denim tote and more. Only a limited amount of special package sets are available.

This August, Carrie will complete the throwback feel of the Denim & Rhinestone album cycle, releasing a cassette version of the project.

The new merch comes on the heels of Carrie's promo week in the U.K., where she also joined legendary rock outfit Guns N' Roses for two shows at their Tottenham Hotspur Stadium performances.

It marked something of a reunion for the unlikely pair: Carrie, a longtime rock fan, brought GN’R's Axl Rose on stage during her Stagecoach set back in April.

Jimmie Allen's “Settle On Back” tells real-life stories about his bipolar disorder and his dad

Jimmie Allen's Tulip Drive is his most personal album to date, and there's no song on the track list more personal than “Settle On Back.” With lyrics that speak to his career as a busy touring artist, it stresses the importance of taking breaks from the road to spend time with the ones that know him best.

For Jimmie, there's no one that knew him better than his late father, James “Big Jim” Allen.

“Settle on Back' is a song I actually wrote about my bipolar disorder,” Jimmie reveals in a conversation with Today's Country Radio With Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music. “When my dad was alive, he was the person that could always pull me back.”

When Jimmie was in a bad mental place, his dad would take him hunting or fishing, he continues. “A lot of people with mental issues has one person in their life that they have the strong connection with,” Jimmie goes on to say.

“…So when that person's gone, I'm kind of stuck,” he adds. Jimmie's dad died in fall 2019 at the age of 65. “So for me now, that song, I wrote it about what I do now when I feel frustrated or the entertainment business is too much,” said Jimmie.

Tulip Drive came out late last month.
