Alan Jackson invites Jon Pardi to join the Grand Ole Opry

Jon Pardi was invited to be a Grand Ole Opry member on Friday, April 28, during his Stagecoach set in Indio, California.

Jon received the invitation after his friend and famed restaurateur Guy Fieri set up the anticipation on stage, then directed his attention to the screen behind them. That’s when a recorded video of Alan Jackson‘s surprise invitation was broadcast.

“The Grand Ole Opry has always meant a whole lot to me and everybody in country music,” opened Alan. “And I’ve been appreciating your music ever since you were touring with me a few years ago. And so, I get the honor to invite you in front of all your Stagecoach friends out there to be the first man from California to become an official member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

Visibly shocked and moved, Jon responded, “I moved to Nashville chasing a dream at 22 years old and now I’m here. I love you guys and I love country music. Thank you, everybody. This is an amazing night. I’ll never forget it.”

“I always wondered how this might happen if it was going to. I never imagined anything this great. That was incredible,” he added.

Jon will be the first California native to be a member at the Grand Ole Opry. His induction date will be announced soon.

Manhunt continues for suspect in shooting that killed 5 family members in Texas

The search for a Texas man who allegedly shot his neighbors after they asked him to stop firing off rounds in his yard headed into a second day Sunday, and authorities saying the suspect ‘could be anywhere’ by now. The suspect, 38-year-old Francisco Oropeza, fled after the shooting on Friday night near the town of Cleveland (north of Houston) that left five people dead, including an 8-year-old boy.

San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said that neighbors had asked the suspect to stop shooting his gun in the front yard because there was a baby trying to sleep. Oropeza, who allegedly had been drinking, responded, “I’ll do what I want to in my front yard.” Capers said all of the victims were shot from the neck up, “almost execution-style.”

Authorities had widened the search to as far as 20 miles (32 kilometers) from the scene of the shooting, adding that investigators found clothes and a phone while combing a rural area that includes dense layers of forest, but tracking dogs lost the scent. FBI Houston field office agent James Smith told reporters during a press briefing that the AR-15-style rifle that Oropeza allegedly used in the shootings was recovered, but believe he is likely armed with another AR-15-style rifle, and is a “threat to the community,”

FBI spokesperson Christina Garza said investigators believe the victims were from Honduras, and do not believe they were all members of a single family. The victims were identified as Sonia Argentina Guzman, 25; Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31; Jose Jonathan Casarez, 18; and Daniel Enrique Laso, 8.

Investigators describe Oropeza as a 5-foot-8 Hispanic man with a goatee and short black hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, a black shirt and work boots.

Shooting at house party leaves 1 dead, 5 injured in Massachusetts

According to statement from Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker’s office, police responded to a disturbance call at a third-floor apartment in Lawrence at about 3 a.m., which is when they found the victims. All six victims were transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead. Two of the remaining victims were flown to Boston hospitals by medical helicopter to receive additional treatment, according to Tucker. Names and other information about the victims is being withheld until their next of kin are notified.

That's a wrap on Stagecoach 2023: 10+ years for Luke Bryan, and a first for Riley Green

This weekend, the biggest stars in country music descended on Indio, California for one of the biggest festivals of them all: Stagecoach

Luke Bryan headlined Friday night’s show, one he’s been playing for more than a decade at this point.

“I’ve been doing Stagecoach for, I guess, probably 10-plus years now,” he tells ABC Audio, “and always am amazed, when I grew up in South Georgia that I could come all the way across the country and really play music that really speaks to people in all corners of the USA.”

“And the main thing is just being out there in front of the fans is what we do all this work for, and it’s pretty special,” he continues. “And to have watched this festival grow [to] 80-plus thousand people out there, it’s pretty special stuff.”

First-timer Riley Green was excited just to get to join the party.

“It was definitely sort of validating to even get invited to this, you know, regardless of where you play or what your time slot is,” he confesses. “But we’ve got such a great time slot on the main stage. And, you know, seeing all the other great artists that are playing here, it just, you can tell it’s a big deal.”

How much fun do the fans have at festivals like this? Well, Riley was prepared to go home with some new stories.

“This is my first Stagecoach, so I would imagine that that answer will change after the set tonight…” he predicted. “I’ve seen a lot of beer go flying at shows. And it’s just a lot of rowdy country music fans and, you know, this is kind of the first concert of the summer, so that’ll be pretty exciting.”

Kane Brown topped the bill on Saturday, while Chris Stapleton closed things out on Sunday.

Jonas Brothers share their video for ‘Waffle House’

The Jonas Brothers have shared the new music video for their song, “Waffle House,” which was filmed during their recent visit to London.  “Waffle House” is set to appear on the Jonas Brothers’ upcoming sixth record, The Album, set to arrive this month. The visual opens with Joe Jonas in an underground club in the city before he goes and joins his brothers in the streets, and eventually follows them on stage at their recent sold-out gig at the iconic Royal Albert Hall.

Nick told Variety about his love for ‘Waffle House’: “It was a last-minute addition. At first, it was a bit of a head-scratcher, but the more I listened to it, the more I loved it. I think it really encapsulates a moment in time for us. Musically it taps into some of my favorites: Doobie Brothers and Bee Gees, and others from that era. It’s a really, really, fun song. We can’t wait to play it live.”
