Midland drops 'Lucky Sometimes' from upcoming EP; announces fall 'The Get Lucky Tour'

Midland will drop their latest music Barely Blue, an eight-song LP recorded with nine-time Grammy winner Dave Cobb at Georgia Mae Studios in Savannah, GA.  Midland – comprised of lead singer/guitarist Mark Wystrach, bassist/vocalist Cameron Duddy and guitarist/vocalist Jess Carson – also shared the album’s opening track “Lucky Sometimes,” along with an official video directed by Harper Smith.  The song follows the release of the band’s most recently track, “Old Fashioned Feeling.”

Cameron Duddy said of the upcoming EP, ‘Barely Blue’: “We knew we wanted to go somewhere else  We are all big believers in a certain time and place, a sense of classic country that comes from roadhouses and bad coffee, miles and miles and miles on the road – and the idea that, even though we’re all happy, love and life falls apart, but that doesn’t mean you have to, too. When we were writing these songs, it was a trip into all the things in country music we love. You don’t hear much of this kind of unfiltered, hard stuff that comes with the great guitar sounds, the deep harmonies and shuffles you can tuck into. But that’s the essence of what Midland is – and Dave Cobb brought a new altitude to our sound.”

Wystrach added:  “Dave Cobb had been a producer we wanted to work with since we first heard Sturgill Simpson’s Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. Dave’s eclectic musical background and the way he approaches recording as an experience and not a task made him the perfect match for us. On Barely Blue, we feel like Dave helped us find the sound we’ve been searching for for a long time.”. Wystrach also shared of the new song: “‘Lucky Sometimes’ is a get-up and go, hot streak, feel-good anthem for when it feels like you just can’t lose. The arrangement is sparse with a high and lonesome groove that crests with soaring harmonies on the hook. It’s the first song on the album and an introduction to the new sonic landscape that we found with Dave Cobb at the helm.”

The trio also revealed they will embark on The Get Lucky Tour, featuring supporting acts including Tanya Tucker, Solin Stough, Colby Acuff, Elvie Shane, Jackson Dean, and the Wilder Blue. The tour kicks-off on September 19th in Cincinnati and will hit iconic locations like Red Rocks Amphitheater on October 12th (with Jackson Dean) before culminating in a grand finale at the ACL Live in their hometown of Austin, TX on December 20th. Growing up fishing and being on that lake was a big part of my childhood. We wanted to give our fans the ultimate summer jam and are looking forward to playing it on the road.”

President Joe Biden withdraws from 2024 Presidential Race, endorses VP Kamala Harris

President Joe Biden officially withdrew from the 2024 presidential race on Sunday, July 21, just four months before the November election against former President Donald Trump. In a statement posted on X, Biden, 81, thanked vice-president Kamala Harris, and said he planned to speak to the nation in more detail later this week.

In a subsequent post on X, Biden endorsed Harris, writing: “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

Biden’s official statement read: “Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation. Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We’ve made historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We’ve provided critically needed care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. Appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. And passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today.”

“I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a once in a century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We’ve protected and preserved our Democracy, And we’ve revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.”

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

“I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision .. For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me. I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”

Biden’s decision to withdraw comes after mounting pressure from members of his own party after his poor performance at the first 2024 presidential debate, where he struggled against Trump and raised doubts about his cognitive health, which ultimately forced his hand.

LL Cool J to drop first album in 11 years, ‘The FORCE’

LL Cool J has announced his 14th studio album The FORCE (Frequencies of Real Creative Energy) will be released on Friday, September 6th via Def Jam Recordings/Virgin Music Group. The 14-track album, produced in its entirety by A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip, features contributions from Nas, Eminem, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Saweetie, Snoop Dogg, Don Pablito, J-S.A.N.D., Mad Squablz, and Sona Jobarteh.

‘The FORCE’ will be LL’s first new album in more than a decade (his last studio album, Authentic, was released in 2013).  The rapper shares: “[I was] going back to the drawing board and learning how to rap again. The LeBrons, the Stephs, the Jordans and the Kobes, they all go back to the drawing board, they always try to make themselves better. I wasn’t trying to do trendy, and I wasn’t trying to recapture anything I did before. It’s like a director going back to film school after he’s had blockbusters, or Denzel going back to acting class .. We’re talking 14 tracks of straight fire, all crafted by myself and the one and only Q-Tip. When you listen to this album, you’re not just hearing music, you’re experiencing a whole new vibe, a whole new level of artistic passion.”

LL also released the second track from the album, titled “Passion,” the follow-up to The FORCE’s lead single “Saturday Night Special” featuring Rick Ross and Fat Joe.
