The Chicks are marking the 20th anniversary of their landmark album Taking the Long Way with an expanded edition. The trio announced that Taking the Long Way: 20th Anniversary Edition will arrive Oct. 3 in streaming formats and as a three-LP vinyl set, adding five bonus tracks to the original 2006 album. The trio — Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer — also added three performances to the Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour: Philadelphia on Oct. 7, Boston on Oct. 9 and Los Angeles on Nov. 3. The expanded schedule follows the previously announced 16-date theater run, which launches Sept. 30 at Detroit's Fox Theatre and includes two-night stays in several cities, including Chicago, New York, San Antonio, Seattle, and San Francisco, with single-night concerts are also planned for Washington, D.C., Nashville, and Austin. The anniversary tour serves to commemorate the album that became one of the defining releases of the group's career. Released in 2006 (following the backlash the band faced after criticizing President George W. Bush and the Iraq War,) Taking the Long Way debuted atop the Billboard 200 and earned five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. Its signature single, “Not Ready to Make Nice,” also won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The upcoming concerts will also mark the first time The Chicks perform the entire tracklist of Taking the Long Way from start to finish during a live show. Each performance will conclude with a secondary selection of prominent hits pulled from the rest of their musical catalog.

Miranda Lambert reveals Ella Langley as her duet partner on Snakeskin Boots’

Miranda Lambert has revealed that Ella Langley is the featured artist on “Snakeskin Boots,” one of the featured tracks from her upcoming album, “Crisco,” set to drop on October 2nd.

“Snakeskin Boots” will serve as the lead-off single from Lambert’s 12-track album, with the collaboration reuniting the country stars following their work together on Langley's “Dandelion” album,  The ‘retro-Western’ song scheduled to premiere at country radio the same day “Crisco” is released.

Lambert and co-producer Jesse Frasure crafted “Snakeskin Boots” with influences from late-1960s Western films and Nancy Sinatra's “Bang Bang.” The song centers on a woman making an escape and blends vintage Western elements with a stylized sound that the album's description compares with the atmosphere of a Quentin Tarantino film and Studio 54. “We wrote Snakeskin Boots' with Ella in mind. She and I are kindred spirits, and when we were working on her album, I realized how many retro influences we share,” Lambert said. “To me, this song is kind of Thelma and Louise if they didn't drive off the cliff. It's two badass women getting away with something, and she's the perfect partner for that.”

The new duet also extends a creative partnership that has become increasingly prominent in both artists' careers. Lambert not only co-produced Langley's “Dandelion,” she co-wrote and co-produced her record-setting single, “Choosin' Texas.”

Defense attorney asserts ‘lack of evidence’ in Lindsay Clancy case during first hearing since mistrial

Lindsay Clancy returned to Plymouth Superior Court on Tuesday for her first status hearing following the September mistrial in her high-profile murder case. Clancy continues to face charges of first-degree murder involving the 2023 deaths of her three children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. During the proceeding, defense counsel Kevin Reddington asked the court for a required finding of not guilty. He insisted that state authorities lack proper proof, asserting, “This entire case is based on speculation” and “There’s no evidence that she admitted she did this”.

The shift in defense posture marks a change from the initial proceedings, where the focus remained primarily on Clancy’s mental health. Previously, her legal strategy centered on establishing that she suffered from postpartum psychosis, which rendered her not criminally responsible for the tragedy. Addressing the court on Tuesday, Reddington argued that investigators instantly presumed her guilt without executing a thorough forensic evaluation. He told the judge that Clancy maintains no memory of the incidents that led to her children’s deaths.

Prosecuting attorney Shanan Buckingham vigorously rejected the defense team’s assertions in court. Characterizing the defense’s claims regarding a lack of proof as “laughable,” the state maintained that “voluminous” evidence exists to show Clancy carried out the slayings. Buckingham emphasized established precedent, stating, “The case law is clear that not every defendant with a mental illness lacks criminal responsibility”.

The legal parties appeared before Judge William Sullivan after the primary trial resulted in an 11-to-1 hung jury. District Attorney Tim Cruz noted outside the courtroom that officials are conducting a meticulous review to figure out how to proceed in the interest of justice. District Attorney Cruz stated, “We’re doing a very thorough review right now. And we’re going to continue to do our job and make sure we do what’s best for the interest of justice and the interest of the three children”.

Judge Sullivan took the defense’s request for a finding of not guilty under advisement without making an immediate determination. While prosecutors voiced a desire to begin a retrial as soon as possible, defense counsel noted they would be unable to proceed prior to June. The court has scheduled November 2 for the next hearing, during which the parties will address the potential trial schedule, pending motions to dismiss, and requests regarding a potential gag order.

Former Special Counsel Jack Smith defends Trump prosecutions during appearance before Senate Judiciary Panel

Former Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith defended his former federal prosecutions of President Donald Trump on Tuesday during a heated appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Testifying publicly regarding his separate inquiries into attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results and the mishandling of classified documents after leaving office, Smith insisted his decisions were grounded purely in evidence and legal precedent rather than political motives.

Appearing before lawmakers, Smith maintained that his team had collected evidence proving beyond a reasonable doubt that serious federal crimes were committed. Addressing critics who claimed the cases were timed to interfere with national elections, Smith pushed back, arguing that a subject’s public status or political platform should never dictate prosecutorial decisions. He told committee members that “our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in serious crimes against our nation,” adding that “if asked whether to prosecute a former president today based on the same facts, I would do so regardless of whether that President was a Republican or a Democrat”.

The hearing quickly devolved into sharp partisan sparring over the legitimacy of the probes. Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, accused the former special counsel of engaging in an overreach meant to undermine political opponents, asserting that “the Smith election case ultimately wasn’t just about Trump” but “was about partisan agents and prosecutors mapping out the Republican apparatus”. In contrast, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., defended the prosecutor, describing attacks on the investigations as “a smoke screen to distract from the president’s own clear, unlawful conduct”.

During the session, Smith expressed broader concerns regarding political pressure placed on civil servants and federal prosecutors. Warning that the national framework of justice is being compromised by personal attacks, he told senators that “history teaches that the rule of law is rarely destroyed all at once. It’s often weakened by attacks on the institutions and the public servants sworn to uphold it”. Smith also mentioned that threats directed at him would not dissuade him from speaking out, testifying that “predetermined outcomes increasingly seem to take precedence over the Justice Department’s long-standing core values and traditions,”and he noted that the ultimate dismissal of the federal charges was governed by long-standing Justice Department policy prohibiting the active prosecution of a sitting president, rather than a lack of proof.

Alex Warren drops the video for ‘Emerald Eyes’ from new album

Alex Warren has released the official video for “Emerald Eyes,” the focus track from his newly released sophomore album, “WILDCHILD.” The video arrives alongside the 13-track album, released Friday through Atlantic Records, and puts a spotlight on a song Warren describes as an energetic love song designed to make listeners dance.

“Emerald Eyes” blends pop and disco influences, with piano, a driving rhythm section, handclaps and a funk-inspired guitar part contributed by Nile Rodgers. Warren co-wrote the track with Adam Yaron, Cal Shapiro and Mags Duval, with Yaron also handling production. The song centers on the overwhelming attraction Warren feels toward someone whose green eyes leave him unable to resist falling deeper into the relationship.

The release also introduces the broader themes of “WILDCHILD,” which Warren has described as a more personal project shaped by memories of his parents and loss. The album’s title comes from a nickname given to Warren by his late father, who called him “wildchild” because of his adventurous nature growing up. Warren said his father, knowing he was dying, recorded a series of videos speaking to his son, material that influenced the singer while creating the album.

“WILDCHILD” also features a guest appearance from John Mayer on the title track, while previously released songs including “FEVER DREAM,” “FINE PLACE TO DIE,” “PASSENGER” and “RESCUER” helped introduce the project ahead of its release. Warren is also currently continuing his world arena tour, with Australian dates coinciding with the album’s arrival.

Wynonna Judd sets The Hard Truth Tour’ in support of new album

Wynonna Judd is expanding her return to the road with the newly announced The Hard Truth Tour, a run of headlining performances that will support her first solo studio album in a decade, The Hard Truth. The tour announcement follows the release of the album’s lead single, “Kentucky Queen,” and arrives as Judd continues a busy year that also includes dates with Melissa Etheridge on their co-headlining Raised on Radio Tour. The new album is scheduled for release on Oct. 2 and marks Judd’s first full-length solo effort since 2016.

Judd has described the 11-track project as her most personal work to date, saying it reflects years of experiences shaped by heartbreak, healing, faith and perseverance. Produced by her husband, Cactus Moser, the album was developed over a five-year period at the couple’s Tennessee farm. In announcing the project, Judd said, “I’ve spent a lifetime singing about heartbreak, healing, faith, and survival, but I’ve never made a record like this one.” She added that the songs chronicle her personal journey and expressed hope they will help listeners feel understood.

The Hard Truth Tour will feature intimate performances centered on the new material while also drawing from Judd’s extensive catalog of solo hits and music from The Judds. Following Kentucky shows tied to the album’s release, the tour kicks off on October 8, 2026, at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City. The headlining appearances come after Judd spends much of the summer touring alongside Melissa Etheridge, giving fans multiple opportunities to see the Country Music Hall of Fame member onstage in 2026.

The new album and tour continue a creative chapter that follows several years of reflection after the 2022 death of Judd’s mother and longtime musical partner, Naomi Judd. Rather than revisit the past, Wynonna has said the project represents a new phase built on resilience and authenticity. “My hope is that when you hear these songs, you feel what I was feeling while writing and recording them. If they help someone feel seen, understood, or a little less alone, then every hard truth was worth telling.”
