First Lady Melania Trump Reveals Son Barron Also Had Coronavirus

First lady Melania Trump wrote in a statement Wednesday that her son with President Trump, 14-year-old Barron, contracted the coronavirus this month at the same time both of his parents were ill. Mrs. Trump said she had experienced a “roller coaster of symptoms,” which she described as “minimal” and added, “Naturally my mind went immediately to our son. To our great relief he tested negative, but again, as so many parents have thought over the past several months, I couldn’t help but think ‘what about tomorrow or the next day?’ My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive.”

The First Lady praised the medical care the first family received, saying it made her “even more grateful and in awe of caretakers and first responders everywhere. I was very fortunate as my diagnosis came with minimal symptoms, though they hit me all at once and it seemed to be a roller coaster of symptoms in the days after,” she said. “I experienced body aches, a cough and headaches, and felt extremely tired most of the time. I chose to go a more natural route in terms of medicine, opting more for vitamins and healthy food.”

Mrs. Trump said she has since tested negative and hopes to resume her duties as soon as possible. In addition to the president, his wife, and their teenage son, about 20 people close to the president and three Republican senators tested positive. Many were at a Rose Garden ceremony late last month to announce the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

Demi Lovato Shares New Song “Commander In Chief”

Demi Lovato has released the new single “Commander in Chief,” co-created by music producer (and Billie Eilish’s brother) Finneas, in an effort to encourage fans to “join me in voting” in the 2020 election on November 3rd.  She also dropped the official music video at midnight on YouTube.

“We are heading into the most important election of our lives,” Lovato wrote Wednesday on Instagram. “This song isn’t about division. This is about finding answers from out (sic) sitting President. So please, debate and talk about voting. That’s what this is all about.”  The song takes a firm stance against the president. Lovato shared video clips on her Instagram account that appear to be teasers from a music video, showing various people lip syncing to her words, including a man wearing a red hat that reads “MAKE AMERICA UNITED AGAIN.” The song’s cover art is a black-and-white photo of Lovato wearing a dark face mask that reads “VOTE.”

U.S. Drugmaker Eli Lilly To Pause Antibody Trial Over Safety Concerns

U.S. health regulators have paused Eli Lilly’s trial of an antibody treatment for COVID-19 over potential safety concerns. It was confirmed on Tuesday that regulators paused enrollment in the leading late-stage trial of monoclonal antibody treatment for the coronavirus. Details regarding the safety concern are not yet known. A review from the independent data and safety monitoring board will be completed before further action is taken. According to spokeswoman Kathryn Beiser, Eli Lilly said it supports the decision by an independent monitoring board to “cautiously ensure the safety of the patients participating in this study.”

The ACTIV-3 trial was set up to test the Eli Lilly-developed monoclonal antibody in combination with remdesivir. Monoclonal antibodies are made to act as immune cells that scientists hope can fight the virus. A blood sample from one of the first U.S. patients who recovered from COVID-19 was used for the experimental antibody treatment. President Donald Trump received a monoclonal antibody treatment made by Regeneron along with remdesivir earlier this month.

The ACTIV-3 trial is one of several ongoing trials, which are part of the National Institute of Health’s “Activ” program set up to accelerate development of COVID-19 vaccines and treatments. The trial is supported by Operation Warp Speed, a Trump administration effort to make and distribute vaccines to fight COVID-19.

Supreme Court Allows Administration To End Census Count On October 31st

The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday the U.S. Census Bureau can conclude its 2020 count on October 31, which will give it enough time to finish with enough time to process the data before year end. The decision, favored by the Trump administration, came with a dissent from Justice Sonia Sotomayor.  Sotomayor wrote in her dissent, “Meeting the deadline at the expense of the accuracy of the census is not a cost worth paying. Especially when the Government has failed to show why it could not bear the lesser cost of expending more resources to meet the deadline or continuing its prior efforts to seek an extension from Congress. This Court normally does not grant extraordinary relief on such a painfully disproportionate balance of harms.”

The U.S. Census Bureau is overseen by Trump appointee Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.  The bureau announced in an August 3 press release that it would be ending its count by September 30 — a month before it originally planned. The Trump administration argued it needed to end then to crunch the data before the congressionally-mandated deadline of December 31, 2020.  In-person data collection was forced to pause in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The temporary suspension prompted the Census Bureau to initially request an extension for the count.

BTS has marked its second No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with the remix for “Savage Love (Laxed-Siren Beat),” a collaboration with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo.  BTS’s hit single “Dynamite” remained in the No. 2 position.
