Maren Morris teases new song, “Background Music”

Maren Morris is revving up fans’ appetite for new music by teasing another track.

On Monday, the superstar took to Tik Tok to share a snippet of her next song release. Titled “Background Music,” the chorus features a slow guitar melody layered with Maren’s dreamy vocals. “You and I/Can dance our way through it/And I love you ’til all that we are/Is background music,” she sings, drawing out each note.

“Is a full chorus a leak?” Maren ponders in the caption, tagging both country music and pop music in the hashtags, alongside the name of her upcoming album, Humble Quest.

Maren set the tone for the project with the release of lead single, “Circles Around This Town,” earlier this month, which is currently climbing its way through the top 30 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

Humble Quest is set to drop on March 25.

“Made my night”: Blake Shelton sings with young fan awaiting heart transplant

Over the weekend, Blake Shelton was performing in his home state of Oklahoma at the Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant when he spotted a six-year-old fan, Wyatt McKee, in the crowd holding up a sign that read, “Your smallest biggest fan from Lake Texoma, 6 yo waiting on a [heart] transplant!!”

Blake made Wyatt’s dream come true when he invited him onstage to sing his favorite song, “God’s Country.” Kneeling down to Wyatt’s level, Blake incorporates his signature sense of humor into the interaction, asking the young fan if he wants to sing the chorus or the verses. “Just whatever? You didn’t think this all the way through. That’s okay, I never do either,” Blake jokes.

All kidding aside, the superstar wraps his arm around Wyatt, who was wearing a backpack that contains his medication, the six-year-old adorably sticking his hands in his pockets as he sings with Blake, who ends the performance by wrapping Wyatt in a hug.

“This little buddy made my night. Thank you for singing ‘God’s Country’ with me Wyatt!” Blake praises alongside the video of the special moment.

Wyatt’s mother, Harley McKee, shared with Music Mayhem that her son was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome wherein part of his heart did not grow properly. After two surgeries by the time he was six months old, Wyatt has been placed on a transplant list and is waiting for a match.

“He was just walking on cloud 9 like he was the coolest kid there!” Harley says about her son’s reaction to performing with the superstar.

“God’s Country” is featured on Blake’s 2019 album, Fully Loaded: God’s Country. It became his 26th #1 single that same year.

“Very grateful”: Jordan Davis celebrates second week at #1 with “Buy Dirt”

Jordan Davis is celebrating the continued success of his #1 single, “Buy Dirt,” in his happy place.

Jordan’s collaborative single featuring Luke Bryan is sitting atop the country charts for the second consecutive week, and he commemorated the achievement by heading to Arkansas for one of his favorite activities — duck hunting.

“Finding out ‘Buy Dirt’ is #1 for the 2nd week is not a bad way to end a duck season,” Jordan writes on Instagram alongside a photo of he and his friends dressed in camouflage and gear, the singer beaming as they look out onto the water. “Very grateful, Thank you country radio.”

“Buy Dirt” became the Louisiana native’s fourth #1 hit last week.

Jordan will embark on the second leg of his Buy Dirt Tour with opening acts Tenille Arts and Hailey Whitters on April 8 in Orlando, Florida. The trek includes his headlining debut at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on September 27.

Walker Hayes finds humor in halftime show mishap

When Walker Hayes took the stage at Arrowhead Stadium for the halftime show yesterday, things didn’t exactly go according to plan — but he’s finding the humor in the situation.

The country star served as the headline performer at the Cincinnati Bengals versus Kansas City Chiefs game in St. Louis on Sunday. But things went a bit awry during his set, as the volume was on full blast as CBS Sports announcers James Brown, Bill Cowher, Boomer Esiason, Nate Burleson and Phil Simms were attempting to discuss the game.

In a video shared by Walker, the singer can be heard performing his latest hit “AA” live while the team of announcers try their best to talk over the loud music and provide commentary from the field.

“@CBSSports thanks for having me,” Walker captions the clip with several crying laughing emojis.

The Bengals claimed victory, solidifying their spot in the Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams on February 13.

Off-duty Washington police officer shot, killed by police during manhunt

An off-duty police officer in Vancouver, Washington was shot and killed while at his home while sheriff’s deputy pursued an armed suspect early Sunday morning.

In a statement on Sunday, Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnery-Ogle identified the officer as Donald Sahota and confirmed he had been with the Vancouver Police Department since 2014.  Said Mayor McEnery-Ogle: “The sudden death of Officer Sahota is devastating and we don’t have all the details of what occurred. This will be investigated by the Lower Columbia Major Crimes Team. It will likely be days before we know more.”

In a statement, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies were dispatched to a Chevron gas station and convenience store at 8:14 p.m. Saturday night after a suspect of a robbery was described as having a handgun, fleeing the area in a stolen vehicle. Deputies located the suspect “a short time later” and pursued him, after which he eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect then contacted a homeowner in a nearby residence and police contacted all parties, during which the officer discharged his weapon, police said. The sheriff’s office said the individual who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene after medical aid was provided but did not include further information about the person’s identity.

The sheriff’s office said the incident is being treated as an officer-involved shooting and confirmed it will be subject to investigation.

13 people hospitalized due to carbon monoxide exposure at Ohio hotel pool

Thirteen people were hospitalized for exposure to carbon monoxide at a Hampton Inn, shortly after a 2-year-old girl lost consciousness in the pool of the hotel.

Police Chief Tony Brooks confirmed that dispatchers in Marysville. Ohio received 911 calls that the girl had fallen into the pool or was found unconscious in the pool at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Dispatchers soon received more calls reporting people unconscious. Two of the patients were listed as being in critical condition after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning, but have since stabilized, hospital officials confirmed. Five patients are in serious condition and at least four other patients have since been released from the hospital. Six of the patients were children; it was not immediately clear what caused the high carbon monoxide levels. Officials stated that the hotel was evacuated, and hotel management booked guests at other hotels nearby.

Marysville Fire Chief Jay Riley said: “We did have life-threatening levels of carbon monoxide in the pool area of the hotel, and we transported several people to local hospitals. We continue the investigation into the source and glad that no one died as a result of their exposure.”

From “therapy” to a “career song” in the making: Chris Janson shares the story behind “Bye Mom”

Of all the songs he's ever released, Chris Janson says he's gotten the biggest and most personal fan reaction with his new single, “Bye Mom.

“[It’s] touching lives all over the globe,” Chris says. “You can’t even imagine the floods of messages that we get about this song, unlike any other song I’ve ever had.”

With its powerful story line of the unconditional love between a mother and a child — and that child's grief at eventually having to say goodbye — “Bye Mom” touches on a universal heartache.

But when Chris first started writing the song, he wasn't thinking about its large-scale impact. Instead, the song began as a healing process for one of Chris' co-writers, Brandon Kinney.

“His mother passed away this past year, unfortunately. We wrote the song kind of as a therapy for him,” the singer explains. “I thought, Hey, you know what, if it only ever lives right here, that's fine.'”

But the song's impact quickly began to spread. Chris' record label heard it and immediately insisted that it be the first single off his new album, All In. Then, when he sent it to country radio, stations quickly started picking it up.

Even after all that, Chris says that the biggest gratification he's gotten for “Bye Mom” has been from his fans.

“I think it's going to be a career song for me and it's already kind of a staple tune,” he notes. “People are already requesting it, and it's only a few months old. So that's how you know you've got something special.”

All In will arrive this spring.

Cody Johnson teams up with Ian Munsick for the ballad “Long Live Cowgirls”

Ian Munsick and Cody Johnson have teamed up for the ballad “Long Live Cowgirls,” co-written by Munsick, Aby Gutierrez and Phil O’Donnell.

Said Munsick of the song: “When I think of modern country and western music, I think of Cody Johnson. The way he pays respect to the tradition of the genre yet puts his own stamp on it is what has drawn me to his music for the last 10 years. ‘Long Live Cowgirls’ is a testament to the western way of life and how it’s still thriving today. There’s no one out there who represents that lifestyle better than CoJo.”
