Taylor Swift Free to Re-Record Her First Five Albums After Battle With Former Label

Taylor Swift is officially free to re-record her old music. Swift can now legally re-record new versions of her first five albums, which Scooter Braun gained ownership of last year following his $300 million deal with Big Machine Label Group.  Swift said last year that her contract allowed her to re-record her music in November 2020 — and her fans got #TaylorIsFree trending on Twitter.

Swift confirmed in August 2019 that she planned on re-recording her first five albums — Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, and 1989 — once legally allowed to do so. “It’s something that I’m very excited about doing, because my contract says that starting November 2020, I can record albums one through five all over again. I’m very excited about it. I think that artists deserve to own their work,” she added. “I just feel very passionately about that.”

Results In Many States Too Close To Call As Vote Count Continues In Presidential Election

Due to a huge increase in mail-in voting, the face-off between President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden did not follow a traditional election night timeline, and it is possible that a projected winner may not be known for days. With many states too close to call, and particular key battleground states still counting ballots into Wednesday morning, a winner is yet to be declared in this year’s Presidential Election.

As of Wednesday morning, Biden has 224 electoral votes to Trump’s 213 with a winner needing 270.

Trump won Kentucky (8 electoral votes), Mississippi (6), Missouri (10), South Carolina (9), Louisiana (8), Alabama (9), Kansas (6), Utah (6), South Dakota (3), North Dakota (3), Indiana (11), Tennessee (11), West Virginia (5), Arkansas (6), Wyoming (3), Oklahoma (7), Idaho (4), Ohio (18), Florida (29), Texas (38) and Montana (3).  Four of Nebraska’s five electoral votes have also been called for the President.

Biden is the projected winner in California (55), New York (29), New Jersey (14), Illinois (20), Oregon (7), Washington (12), New Mexico (5), Colorado (9), Connecticut (7), Washington, D.C. (3), Massachusetts (11), Maryland (10), Delaware (3), New Hampshire (4), Virginia (13), Minnesota (10), Rhode Island (4), Hawaii (4) and Vermont (3). He also secured one congressional vote from Nebraska.

In the battleground states of Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Michigan, experts won’t be able to call the state for either candidate. Early returns in Georgia (16) favored Trump with 93% of precincts voting, as did Michigan (16) with 77% counted. North Carolina (15) leaned toward Trump with 95% of the votes reported.

Pennsylvania (20) favored Trump with 74% of votes reported, but the mail-in ballot counting is expected to continue for days. Biden has leads in Arizona, Nevada and Maine with 82%, 79% and 69% of the precincts reporting, respectively. He also maintains very small leads in Wisconsin with 49.3% of the vote to Trump’s 49% with 89% of the ballots counted.

Twitter And Facebook Suspend Accounts For Spreading Election Misinformation

Twitter Inc and Facebook Inc on Tuesday suspended several recently created right-leaning news accounts for spreading misinformation regarding the U.S. election, as well as for violating their policies.

Twitter said the accounts had been suspended for violating its policy against “coordination,” posting identical content while appearing independent or engaging in other covertly automated behavior. Facebook suspended them for inauthentic behavior. One of those suspended, SVNewsAlerts, had more 78,000 Twitter followers, after adding more than 10,000 in the past week. Other accounts suspended by Twitter included FJNewsReporter, Crisis_Intel and Faytuks.

A Facebook page also named SVNewsAlerts, which was suspended on Tuesday afternoon, had more than 20,000 followers. Facebook declined to comment further.

False or exaggerated reports about voting fraud and delays at the polls circulated on social media throughout the day, in some cases helped along by Republican accounts and online publications.

Dow Jones Shows 423 Point Gain As Stock Market Closes Higher On Eve Of Presidential Election

The three major U.S. indexes rose on Monday as markets prepared for Election Day and the potential effect of the result on long-awaited stimulus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 423.45 points, or 1.6%, while the S&P 500 increased by 1.23%. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.42% as its rise was limited by declining tech stocks.

Analysts predicted that the results of the presidential election, as well as the various Senate races, could lead to an end in the ongoing stalemate in negotiations over another round of stimulus in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However on Monday, the Treasury Department scaled back its estimates for borrowing through the end of the year, predicting it would borrow $617 billion from October through December down from $1.22 trillion estimated in early August.

The major averages entered the month coming off of their worst week since March 20 amid rising COVID-19 cases throughout the country.
