President Trump Fires Homeland Security Cyber Chief Chris Krebs Who Said Election Was Secure

The Department of Homeland Security’s cyber chief, Chris Krebs, was fired by President Donald Trump on Tuesday. Trump announced the dismissal in a tweet Tuesday night.

The dismissal of Krebs, director DHS’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, follows the agency’s declaration that the general election was the most secure in U.S. history. The statement served as a rebuke to the president who continues to make unsubstantiated allegations of voting fraud while Trump’s legal team pursues multiple legal challenges in battleground states.

Krebs had been an outspoken defender of the nation’s election security apparatus in the months leading up to Election Day Krebs joined DHS in March 2017, first serving as a senior adviser on cybersecurity and infrastructure protection. He was tasked with safeguarding national cyber networks along in the face of increasing attempts by foreign adversaries to disrupt the government, which was made clear in 2016 when Russia sought to undermine the general election.

Dolly Parton Donates $1 Million Towards Moderna Covid-19 Vaccine Research

It was revealed that back in April, Dolly Parton donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to create the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund, to help the search for a cure or vaccine for the virus. That money partially funded pharmaceutical company Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine research, currently a leading candidate in the search for a viable vaccine. Moderna released data showing that its vaccine is 94.5 percent effective in preliminary trials, and social media users noted that Moderna’s data cited the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund as one of its supporters.

Parton shared on Instagram back in April that she was donating money to Vanderbilt University because her “longtime friend,” professor of surgery Dr. Naji Abumrad, was working on COVID-19 research.  She added, “I am making a donation of $1 million to Vanderbilt towards that research,” she continued, urging others out there who “can afford it” to make donations as well.

Taylor Swift Confirms She Is Re-Recording Her Albums After Scooter Braun Sells Her Masters For $300M

Scooter Braun and his media holding company Ithaca Holdings LLC have sold the master rights to Taylor Swift’s first six albums. Ithaca announced its acquisition of Big Machine Label Group back in June 2019, giving the company the rights to Swift’s albums for the label. Swift says the masters were sold to a private equity company called Shamrock Holdings for more than $300 million.

After news about the sale emerged, Swift tweeted the below statement explaining why she wasn’t sold her masters. She also confirmed plans to re-record her music, saying she has “plenty of surprises in store.” Swift says her team attempted to negotiate with Braun about bidding on her own work, but was told she’d have to sign an NDA prohibiting her from talking about Braun in a less-than-positive way. “My legal team said that this is absolutely NOT normal, and they’ve never seen an NDA like this presented unless it was to silence an accuser by paying them off,” she wrote. “He would never even quote my team a price. These master recordings were not for sale to me.” The letter claims that Braun will continue to profit from her catalog “for many years.”

Taylor Swift signed with Universal Music Group and Republic Records in 2018. She has released two albums for Republic: Lover and folklore.

President-elect Biden Speaks On Transition, COVID-19 Crisis and Economic Recovery

President-elect Joe Biden along with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris spoke on Monday, saying they were eager to work on getting the economy back on track and tackle the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Biden also said his team was moving forward with naming cabinet members and pulling together plans for the economy and the pandemic, despite the fact that President Donald Trump has refused to concede.  Biden noted, “It would make it a lot easier if the president would cooperate. I’m hopeful that the president will be mildly more enlightened before we get to Jan. 20.”

Biden laid out some of his vision for an economic recovery including raising the national minimum wage to $15 per hour; restoring corporate taxes on the largest corporations and making sure that the federal government buys U.S. products.

Biden also spoke about Thanksgiving and Christmas, noting that health experts advised not meeting with more than five other people indoors for holiday gatherings, and asking Americans to wear masks and practice social distancing. “I want us to be together next Thanksgiving and next Christmas. We’re at war with the virus, it is a war for real.”
