President Trump orders Strait of Hormuz blockade as Iran talks collapse

President Donald Trump announced that the United States will move forward with a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after high-stakes negotiations with Iran ended without a breakthrough. The talks, held in Islamabad and involving U.S., Iranian, and Pakistani officials, failed to resolve key disputes—particularly over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and control of the critical waterway.

According to U.S. officials, Iran refused to meet several key demands, including ending uranium enrichment, dismantling major nuclear facilities, cutting support for regional militant groups, and allowing unrestricted access to the strait without fees. Vice President JD Vance said Iran “have chosen not to accept our terms.”

Iran, meanwhile, pushed for control over the strait, financial reparations, a broader regional ceasefire, and access to frozen assets. Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf criticized Washington, saying it had failed to build trust and warning, “We will not bow to any threats, let them test our will once again so that we can teach them a bigger lesson.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared, “Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz.” He added that other nations would participate and emphasized that “Iran will not be allowed to profit off this Illegal Act of EXTORTION.”

The decision marks a major escalation in the ongoing conflict. The Strait of Hormuz—through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes—has already been heavily restricted during the war, contributing to volatile energy markets and rising global economic pressure. Trump said the blockade aims to stop Iran from imposing tolls on passing vessels, warning, “No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas.” He further stated the U.S. Navy would “seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran,” while also working to clear naval mines reportedly placed in the strait.

Speaking on Fox News, Trump described the move as a “complete blockade,” allowing no ships through until Iran changes course. He argued the U.S. must endure short-term economic strain to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, predicting energy prices would eventually stabilize. Trump also signaled further economic pressure, warning that any country—potentially including China—that continues to buy Iranian oil could face steep penalties, including tariffs as high as 50%.

Tensions remain high on the ground. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard stated the strait is open to civilian vessels under specific rules but warned that any military presence would be considered a violation of the ceasefire and met with force. U.S. ships have already entered the area to begin mine-clearing operations.

A U.S.-based human rights group estimates nearly 3,400 people have been killed in Iran, including more than 1,600 civilians. In Lebanon, over 2,000 deaths have been reported amid ongoing Israeli strikes, while casualties have also been recorded in Israel and among U.S. forces.

Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival scaled down, to feature Avett Brothers, Sheryl Crow and more

Willie Nelson is bringing back his Outlaw Music Festival in summer 2026, but this time with a noticeably smaller footprint. Now in its 11th year, the traveling Americana showcase will visit just 12 cities — a sharp reduction from last year’s 35-stop run — making each performance feel more like a rare event than a routine tour date. Organizers describe the 2026 run as “a special limited run,” emphasizing quality over quantity. With Nelson now in his 90s, the reduced schedule is meant to make each night stand out as a unique experience for fans.

The lineup features Nelson & Family as headliners, joined by artists including The Avett Brothers, Sheryl Crow, Wilco, Lukas Nelson, and Stephen Wilson Jr.. While no single act will appear at every stop, Wilson Jr. is scheduled for nearly the full run, with others rotating throughout the tour.

Additional performers set to join on select dates include Margo Price, Sierra Hull, Robert Randolph, Don Was with the Pan-Detroit Ensemble, and Lily Meola. For Nelson’s annual Fourth of July Picnic — scheduled this year as a one-off August event — Billy Strings and Rodney Crowell will make special guest appearances.

The tour kicks off July 3 in Irving, Texas, with a handful of early dates in Texas before picking back up in mid-August in Maryland Heights, Missouri. From there, it travels through the Midwest and Northeast, wrapping up August 30 in Saratoga Springs, New York. Unlike previous years, the tour will not extend to the West Coast.

Reflecting on the upcoming shows, Nelson said, “Being on the road and playing for the fans is what I love to do. We don’t get to do as many shows as we used to, so every night out there means a little more. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and making it a special time.”

Tickets are on sale at Outlawmusicfestival.com.

Kacey Musgraves to release new album ‘Middle of Nowhere,’ shares first single “Dry Spell”

Kacey Musgraves has revealed plans to release her sixth studio album, Middle of Nowhere, on May 1st. Along with the announcement, the Grammy-winning artist introduced the project’s lead single, “Dry Spell,” accompanied by a music video which she co-directed with Hannah Lux Davis.

Middle of Nowhere was produced with longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk and features guest appearances from Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings and Gregory Alan Isakov. The album’s title was inspired by a roadside sign in Musgraves’ tiny hometown of Golden, Texas, which reads “Golden, TX: Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere.” The phrase became the thematic foundation for the project, reflecting both a literal location and a broader emotional state.

Written during a time of personal reflection following a breakup, the record finds Musgraves leaning into classic Western and country influences. Musgraves shared: “The bulk of this record was made during the longest single period of my life, and I found that for the first time, it actually felt incredible being alone and existing in a space not defined by anyone else. I became fascinated with the concept of liminal space, both geographical and emotional. We don’t linger in these transitional, empty spaces long enough and rush to define where or whatever is next. I became so at ease with being in the “middle of nowhere” in many senses and sitting in the un-comfort of the undefined. I had a lot of time for creative ambling and leaning into myself in different ways; horses, humor, writing with my early collaborators again and living out my very simple, inspired life between Texas, Tennessee and Mexico.”

Middle of Nowhere follows Musgraves’ 2024 album Deeper Well, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart and marked her fifth chart-topping entry on the Top Country Albums ranking. The project also fueled a successful global tour and continued the singer’s run of major milestones, including her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 duet “I Remember Everything” with Zach Bryan.

Husband arrested in disappearance of American woman in the Bahamas as new questions emerge

Authorities in the Bahamas have taken a 59-year-old American man into custody as the search continues for his missing wife, Lynette Hooker, who vanished during a late-night boat trip near Elbow Cay.

The man, identified by his attorney as Brian Hooker, was arrested Wednesday by the Royal Bahamas Police Force. His lawyer, Terrel A. Butler, said Hooker “categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing” and has been cooperating with investigators.

Hooker initially told police that the couple had gone out Saturday night in a small dinghy when his wife, 55, fell overboard while holding the boat’s keys. According to his account, the engine stopped, and strong currents quickly carried her away. He said he spent hours paddling before reaching the Marsh Harbour Boat Yard around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Search efforts in the Abaco Islands have since shifted toward recovery, while the U.S. Coast Guard has opened a criminal investigation. Officials say the case is still in its early stages.

Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, has publicly challenged Hooker’s version of events, raising doubts about key details. She noted that her mother was an experienced swimmer and longtime sailor, making it difficult to believe she would simply fall overboard. “For one, I don’t understand how she got the key,” Aylesworth said. “Brian’s always driving. So he basically is in charge of the key. So the fact that my mom had it doesn’t make any sense.” Aylesworth has also pointed to the couple’s turbulent past, saying they had a pattern of separating and reconciling. She has called for a thorough investigation, adding, “There needs to be an intensive review of the facts and circumstances of this tragic incident before that can be determined.”

Her concerns are echoed by a 2015 police report from Michigan, which documented a domestic dispute between the couple. In that incident, both accused each other of assault after a night of drinking. Brian Hooker reportedly had a bloody nose and claimed his wife struck him multiple times, while Lynette alleged he choked and punched her. She was arrested at the time, though charges were not pursued due to insufficient evidence.

Aylesworth has alleged additional past abuse, including claims that Hooker once threatened to throw her mother overboard—an accusation that has intensified her skepticism about what happened. She also questioned Hooker’s demeanor after the incident, saying he sounded “monotone and relaxed” when he finally contacted her nearly a day later.

Meanwhile, Butler said his client spoke with authorities for hours earlier in the week after being told he was not a suspect and that police only needed assistance. Hooker, who acknowledged having legal counsel but did not call an attorney at the time, was initially released before being arrested later that same day. No charges have been filed so far. In a social media post, Hooker described the incident as a tragic accident, writing, “I am heartbroken over the recent boat accident in unpredictable seas and high winds that caused my beloved Lynette to fall from our small dinghy near Elbow Cay in the Bahamas,” adding that he made desperate attempts to reach her as the current pulled them apart.

As the investigation continues, Aylesworth says she is focused on finding answers: “I just want to know the truth.”

1 killed, 2 missing after parking garage under-construction in Philly partially collapses

A partial collapse at a parking garage under construction in Philadelphia has left one person dead and two others still missing, as emergency crews continue a difficult and time-sensitive search operation. The incident unfolded around 2:17 p.m. on April 8 at a job site in the Grays Ferry neighborhood near 30th Street and Grays Ferry Avenue. The structure, a seven-story garage being built for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, suffered a major failure during construction work.

According to city officials, the collapse began when a precast concrete roof section gave way while being installed. “After placement, a precast roof segment failed and fell to the level below, literally triggering a progressive collapse of connected sections across all seven levels,” said Mayor Cherelle Parker. The failure caused a chain reaction, bringing down large portions of the structure, particularly along the stairwell on the 30th Street side.

Emergency responders quickly arrived and rescued three individuals from the debris. All were taken to a hospital, where one later died from critical injuries. The other two were treated and released. Officials say two additional workers remain unaccounted for.

Rescue operations have proven especially challenging due to the building’s instability. Crews have had to pause at times to allow engineers to assess and stabilize the structure before continuing. Fire Commissioner Jeffrey Thompson emphasized that the process will be slow and deliberate to protect both victims and first responders. “We will not rest until everyone is accounted for from this tragedy,” Parker said, underscoring the city’s commitment to the ongoing effort.

Authorities confirmed that all required permits for the project had been issued and inspections were current. However, some components—like the precast concrete sections—were manufactured and installed off-site, falling under specialized inspection protocols rather than standard city oversight.

The collapse has led to widespread disruptions in the surrounding area. A stretch of Grays Ferry Avenue between 29th and 33rd streets remains closed, and residents and businesses nearby have been advised to expect ongoing interruptions with no clear timeline for reopening. In a statement, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia said, “We are prioritizing the safety of the construction workers at this time and working closely with the City of Philadelphia and our construction partners.”

Investigations into the cause of the collapse are underway, with city agencies and federal safety officials working to determine what went wrong. For now, the focus remains on carefully securing the site and continuing the search for the missing workers in what officials describe as a complex and ongoing operation.

Sabrina Carpenter unveils star-studded “House Tour” video

Sabrina Carpenter is keeping the momentum going from her chart-topping album Man’s Best Friend with the release of the official video for “House Tour,” a fan-favorite track that has racked up nearly 300 million streams worldwide.

Co-directed by Carpenter and Margaret Qualley, the video features the two alongside Madelyn Cline. The trio plays a mischievous crew dubbed the “Pretty Girl Clean-Up Crew,” arriving at a lavish mansion in a pink van labeled “Pretty Girl Cleanup.” What starts as a playful visit quickly spirals into chaos, as they indulge in a wild night—lounging in baths, trying on clothes, swimming, and even swiping a Grammy. The carefree energy takes a darker turn by the end. Despite police arriving on the scene, the group slips away unnoticed. As they make their escape, Carpenter’s character hits a pedestrian with the van—yet they casually drive off, leaving the moment unresolved.

“House Tour” is one of several standout singles from Man’s Best Friend, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and topped charts across multiple countries, earning RIAA platinum status. The album follows a busy stretch for Carpenter, including a successful arena run on her “Short ‘n Sweet” tour and major festival appearances, including headlining Coachella for the first time.
