Government begins sending $600 COVID-19 stimulus payments

On Wednesday, the U.S. federal government began mailing out COVID-19 stimulus checks worth $600 for most Americans, amid ongoing efforts to raise the amount to $2,000. The $600 amount was part of the $900 billion coronavirus relief package negotiated in Congress for months and signed by President Donald Trump on Sunday.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said that the government has already begun sending the money into Americans’ accounts, via direct deposit, and that paper checks would begin to go out Wednesday. The direct infusions of cash will continue to be deposited and sent through the mail into next week, Mnuchin said.

The payments are the second direct aid sent to Americans as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The first checks for $1,200 were given out in April after Congress passed the initial relief package, the CARES Act.  Similar to the first payments early this year, the new $600 amount will be sent to all eligible Americans and $1,200 will be given for married couples. There will be an additional $600 per child. All Americans who made up to $75,000 in 2019, or $150,000 for married couples filing jointly, will receive the full amount. The qualifying income figures are determined by recipients’ 2019 federal tax return.

Dierks Bentley plans to enter 2021 “in stride”

ABCAt the end of the whirlwind year that was 2020, Dierks Bentley is looking forward to a mellow New Year’s Eve.

Dierks recalls that New Years past have been spent partying after playing a live show, and admits that the back-to-back events can be a bit overwhelming.

“New Year’s is rough. New Year’s hurts no matter what’s going on,” he says. “I’ve played a lot of New Year’s shows, but I’ve honestly found that it’s not my favorite night to throw down.”

Admittedly feeling exhausted after a show, Dierks says he often relishes in the low-key New Year’s celebrations that don’t include a hangover the next morning.

“A lot of times on New Year’s, I’m looking for a really mellow hang, a good party, good friends, pretty chill. Some of my best New Year’s have been actually hearing fireworks go off while I’m in bed,” he continues.

To ring in 2021, the “Burning Man” hitmaker plans to take it easy with his family as they retreat in Colorado, hoping to enter the new year with a sense of rejuvenation.

“The goal this year is to go into it feeling pretty good and the kids help with that, because you really just don’t want to be hungover with children. It’s not a good feeling,” he describes. “You would probably admit to any crime to get them, just feel better, and get them leave you alone. So, [I’m] gonna try to hit New Year’s this year in stride.”

Dierks is entering the new year with a top-25 hit on his hands, as his current single, “Gone,” climbs the charts.

“Couple things”: Kane Brown and wife Katelyn share video imitating each other

Matthew BerinatoKane Brown and his wife Katelyn are finding ways to amuse themselves at home.

Last week, Kane posted a blooper reel of himself trying to imitate his wife, promising that a full video was forthcoming. Kane delivered on this promise with a video of him and Katelyn attempting their best impressions of each other.

The clip begins with Kane on the elliptical, peddling ferociously with a towel wrapped around his head and a bottle of water in hand.  “Babe, how many calories do you usually burn? I’ve been going for two hours and I have 53,” he calls into the other room.  Apparently, “babe” is a word used frequently in the Brown household.

The camera then cuts to Kane, still with a towel on his head, approaching his wife, who is in character as her hubby, wearing a Pizza Hut hat and playing video games, getting furious when she loses the game after Kane asks her to cuddle.

The video ends with Kane, aka Katelyn, spending so much time moisturizing his face before bed that he misses the movie his wife rented for them.

“Did you watch the whole movie?” he asks defensively while still in character. “Babe, you’ve been in there for over an hour. You’re going to bed, not out to dinner,” Katelyn replies as her husband.

“Couple things,” the country superstar captions the video with an eye roll and crying laughing emoji.

The couple wed in October 2018 and welcomed their daughter Kingsley one year later.
