Reports of minor ‘breakthrough’ COVID-19 cases among those fully vaccinated appear mild

Reports of coronavirus ‘breakthrough’ infections, occuring when fully vaccinated individuals get the illness, suggest that the vaccines still offer strong protection against severe disease even in the face of variants.

Two cases in the New England Journal of Medicine on Wednesday show just two women out of more than 400 fully vaccinated study participants, who were tested for Covid-19 weekly, developed mild cases of the disease and recovered quickly.  Last Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it had received reports of around 5,800 breakthrough infections out of more that 77 million fully vaccinated people.

CDC officials are gathering more data on breakthrough cases to determine if any patterns exist among patients. Among the questions the agency is asking is whether certain variants are more likely to play a role in breakthrough cases. Because the report included just two cases, it’s too early to draw any conclusions about which variants are most likely to lead to breakthrough infections.ed and one individual died.

Dan + Shay promise fans can expect “the best stuff of our career” “before too long”

As die-hard Dan + Shay fans are no doubt aware, the duo hasn’t put out a new album since their career-changing, self-titled third album from 2018.

At the same time, that hasn’t prevented Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney from following it up with two consecutive number-one singles, “10,000 Hours” with Justin Bieber and “I Should Probably Go to Bed.”

With their third non-album single, “Glad You Exist,” now climbing the chart, the CMA and ACM Duo of the Year promises there’s new music — in some form — on the horizon.

“Aw man! We’re working hard on music,” Dan tells ABC Audio. “I don’t know how we’re gonna release it yet, we’re still figuring it out. But first and foremost, we want to just pour our hearts and souls [into it and] keep raising the bar. We feel like we owe that to country radio and to our fans, to everybody who’s been in our corner since day one.”

“It’s like you set a precedent with a certain song or a certain sequence of songs,” he explains. “And it’s like we beat ourselves up in the writing room and in the studio to keep pushing, keep evolving, giving the fans something new, but not alienating what got us there in the first place.”

Chart-topping hits like “Tequila,” “Speechless,” and “All to Myself” are certainly part of that sequence. And one way or another, there’s more to come.

“We’re working hard,” Dan promises. “There’s lots of stuff that we’re really, really proud of and we’re figuring out the strategy we’re gonna… Yeah, fans can expect some new music before too long…”

“We’re excited,” he emphasizes. “We’re working on what we think is the best stuff of our career. So, you know, we’re fired up, man.”

“Not Yet”: Brett Young teases new music on the way

Jason Kempin/Getty Images

Brett Young has new music up his sleeve, and he's gearing up to share it soon: This week, the singer is teasing “Not Yet,” a new song set to arrive on Friday.

Brett hasn't provided many details about his next song, other than its title and the single cover image of himself gazing off into the distance against a backdrop of a pink sunset. In his post, the singer tags the location as Palm Springs, California.

When the song arrives, it'll be the latest addition to a hot streak of number-one hits, following his seventh single, “Lady.”

“Lady” is inspired by his wife, Taylor, and baby daughter, Presley. Soon, there will be a third little “Lady” in the mix: Brett and Taylor are expecting their second child, also a girl, this summer.

Like “Lady,” many of Brett's hits have been inspired by his personal and family life, and his relationship with his wife. It remains to be seen if “Not Yet” continues that trend.

Carly Pearce hints that she’s not “entirely finished” releasing music off of ’29’ just yet

ABC

Carly Pearce's 29 is a soul-baring, six-song collection that arrived in full back in February…or did it? The singer took to social media on Wednesday, hinting that she just might have more music to release from 29.

“I've realized over the last few weeks that I wasn't entirely finished writing my 29 chapter…” Carly cryptically revealed, alongside a black-and-white shot of herself in the studio.

Searing and emotionally open, 29 is Carly's exploration of one of the hardest years in her life. It's the year that she “got married and divorced,” as she sings in the title track of her short-lived marriage to fellow star Michael Ray. It's also the year that she grappled with the loss of musical mentor busbee, who died in 2019 after a brief battle with a rare form of brain cancer.

While 29 chronicles a difficult personal period, the new music comes at a time when Carly is in a triumphant place in her musical career. Her 2019 duet with Lee Brice, “I Hope You're Happy Now,” provided Carly a number-one country radio hit and earned her the title of Music Event of the Year at both the 2020 CMA Awards and 2021 ACM Awards.

Carly was a double winner at the ACMs, also bringing home Single of the Year for “I Hope You're Happy Now.”

Lauren Alaina teases a “money” sneak peek at her “Getting Over Him” music video with Jon Pardi

ABC

Lauren Alaina and Jon Pardi may not be releasing the full music video for their duet, “Getting Over Him,” until Friday, but you can get a sneak peek of the clip on their socials right now.

“Hope you think this trailer is as money as we do,” Lauren wrote in the caption of the teaser. “Here's a sneak peek, but you steal gotta wait for the big payday.”

Lauren, a notorious punster, is slyly using her caption to tip her hat to the video's story line, which appears to follow Jon and Lauren as they play the part of burglars on the lam from the law.

“Getting Over Him” is Lauren's latest single, and it's more than just a duet with her good pal Jon: It's also the title track of her latest EP, and was written as a reflection on two breakups from her past.

“I had not been single — like really been single — since I was 17 years old. And I was like, I just need a flirty little song about a boy in a bar, I think,'” she explained at the time.

The music video for “Getting Over Him” is out in full this Friday.
