Shy Carter pops the top on “Beer with My Friends” and sings along with Cole Swindell, David Lee Murphy

Shy Carter returns this week with his new summer swing-a-long anthem, “Beer with My Friends,” a collaboration that features two of Shy's real-life country music pals.

Singing along with him on the track is 90s hitmaker David Lee Murphy, who also co-wrote the song, as well as Cole Swindell.

“It was a dream come true to collaborate with two of my favorite party-starters…I'm a huge fan of them both, and I'm so honored that they would sing this crazy, energetic, amazing song with me,” Shy says of putting the song together. “My hope is that Beer With My Friends' becomes the go-to anthem for all the beautiful people out there who want to have a blast enjoying life with their friends and families!” he adds.

“Beer with My Friends” is the hard-partying next chapter in Shy's story as a solo artist, which began last summer when he dropped his major-label debut, “Good Love.”

Even though he's still a relative newcomer as a performer, Shy's far from green in the country music business. He's a hit songwriter and producer who has worked with the likes of Billy Currington, Keith Urban and Sugarland. Fans also got a taste of his onstage presence when he duetted with Tim McGraw for Tim's 2019 song, “Way Down.”

That's just the beginning for Shy, who's planning to tour with Tyler Rich this fall as well as hitting the summer festival circuit.

President Biden signs bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday

On Thursday, President Biden signed a bill establishing Juneteenth — the day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States — as a federal holiday, establishing June 19 officially as Juneteenth National Independence Day.  The US Office of Personnel Management announced that many federal workers will observe the holiday today, June 18th, since this year June 19 falls on a Saturday. The holiday is the first federal holiday established since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.

The legislation was passed by Congress on Wednesday, having gained momentum following Black Lives Matter protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union Major General Gordon Granger announced the end of slavery in Galveston, Texas, in accordance with President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Emancipation Proclamation.

House votes to repeal the 2002 Iraq war authorization

On Thursday, the House voted to repeal the 2002 war authorization of military force against Iraq. The vote passed by 268-161 in the House, with 49 Republicans and 219 Democrats voting in favor. The repeal was endorsed by the White House and Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory Meeks argued that the legislation was “vulnerable to being abused” given Iraq’s proximity to other global hotspots, saying during the vote: “Repeal is crucial because the executive branch has a history of stretching the 2002 AUMF’s legal authority. It has already been used as justification for military actions against entities that had nothing to do with Saddam Hussein’s Ba’athist’s dictatorship.”

The bill must now be considered by the Senate, which is already considering a similar measure, though theirs includes a repeal of the Iraq-focused 1991 authorization. If both bills pass, the two chambers will have to consolidate the bills before laying a final product on the president’s desk.

For Russell Dickerson, stardom doesn't hold a candle to dad life: “It's not better than this baby”

Russell Dickerson has had plenty of exciting life experiences, from topping radio charts to playing in front of sold-out crowds. Still, he says, nothing's better than being a dad to nine-month-old baby Remington — and he always advises couples on the fence to take the leap into parenthood.

“I tell my friends who are our couple friends, I'm like, Whatever you think is gonna be better than [having kids], whatever you're waiting on, it's not,'” he says.

“Like, I've got platinum singles. I've got number-ones,” Russell goes on to point out. “I've played Madison Square Garden. It's not better than this, you know? It's not better than this baby.”

Russell and his wife, Kailey, welcomed baby Remington back in September of 2020. And while he and his wife enjoyed their pre-kid days, looking back on it now, he says almost wishes they'd started their family sooner.

“I'm so grateful for the time we had just us, me and Kailey, but once we had the baby it was like, Why did we wait so long?'” the singer explains. “We could've been hanging out with this little dude for so long now.”

This fall, Russell will add touring back into the mix when he heads out on the road for Florida Georgia Line's I Love My Country Tour. The trek begins in September.

Thomas Rhett has teamed up with his own dad, Rhett Akins, for the new song “Things Dads Do.” released just in time for Father’s Day.  The song, written by Rhett and Akins with Matt Dragstrem and Chase McGill, is a reflection on what a ‘dad life’ is.

Rhett and Akins first performed “Things Dads Do” on stage at the Grand Ole Opry last weekend, with Thomas writing on Instagram: “We all have those moments as adults when we recognize ourselves doing things that our parents did our entire lives and finally start to understand. This one is for the dads and is out now.”

The father-son duo has penned a number of tracks together through the years, but Rhett shared in a statement that “Things Dads Do” is his “favorite song I’ve gotten to write with my dad. “I’ve learned so many life lessons from him, and it’s pretty wild to see so much of him in myself now that I’m a dad,” he said. “It felt like we should go ahead to release it for all of y’all who have been asking since we wrote it and to celebrate all the dads out there!”

Rhett is a soon-to-be father of four, he shares daughters, 5-year-old Willa Gray, 3-year-old Ada James and 1-year-old Lennon Love with wife Lauren Akins.  You can take a listen to Things Dads Dohere.

Jon Pardi postpones June concerts after doctor's orders to go on vocal rest

Just as Jon Pardi is gearing up for a return to touring after the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns, he's hit a minor roadblock: The singer has been placed on vocal rest until July.

Jon’s social media update says it all: He’s posted a photo showing him holding up a sign with a frowning face on it, and he's got a sad face to match.

“For the first time in my life I have been ordered by the doctor to go on on vocal rest and it is NOT EASY!!” he wrote in the caption of his post. “All shows through end of June will be rescheduled. We really appreciate the support and understanding. I promise to do my part and stay as healthy as possible to continue singing and performing.”

Several of Jon's country pals offered their sympathies in the comments section of his post. “Lonesome fiddle blues, bro,” wrote Dierks Bentley. “Hate that for you,” added Brothers Osborne's TJ Osborne.

“WE JUST GOT STARTED!” sympathized Kane Brown, offering Jon the consolation prize of coming out on the road to hang out with him during his mandated down time.

Per the singer's website, Jon's summer touring schedule now begins July 1 in Durant, Oklahoma. He'll keep busy at amphitheaters, fairs and festivals throughout the rest of the summer and into the fall.
