Garth Brooks originally wrote his new single, “That's What Cowboys Do,” with Midland in mind

Garth Brooks' latest single off his Fun album is “That's What Cowboys Do,” a gentle waltz-time ballad about a cowboy who winds up falling in love during what he thinks is going to be nothing more than a one-night stand.

The song is nothing if not true to the roots of country music, Garth explains during a recent installment of his Inside Studio G Facebook Live Series.

“If you've got a local country radio station, this is the most country thing you're gonna be hearing on it for sure — no offense to any other artist,” the singer says with a grin. In fact, Garth — who penned the song solo, according to Amazon Music credits — originally wrote it hoping that one of the genre's most traditional modern acts might record it.

“It was written for Midland,” he reveals. “It was written for the boys from Midland. Cause I thought they would kill it. We sat down and wrote something for them, because they do a lot of George Strait-feeling stuff.”

But once Garth finished “That's What Cowboys Do,” he knew he wanted to record the song. “It ended up feeling so good we just did it ourselves,” he said.

Garth will bring his new single on the road as he launches his next round of Stadium Tour shows. After a pandemic-induced, year-plus hiatus, the Stadium Tour resumed last weekend in Las Vegas.

Dierks Bentley's Seven Peaks Festival 2021 is cancelled due to local capacity restrictions

Just weeks after announcing the lineup for his 2021 Seven Peaks Festival, Dierks Bentley has had to cancel this year's event. The change comes as a result of capacity restrictions from local health officials in Chaffee County, where the Buena Vista, Colorado festival was scheduled to take place.

“I am so sorry to announce that we are going to have to cancel 7P for this year. I really could not be more bummed about it,” explained Dierks on social media.

“It cannot be overstated how much time, thought, effort and energy has gone into gearing up for the festival this year,” Dierks continued, going on to thank his team members, the artists who signed on to play the event and the fans who bought tickets. “Together we built something really special and it's going to be a big celebration when our 7P family is together again. We will be back!”

2021 passes that have been purchased will be automatically refunded within 30 days. Also, a post from the festival indicates that a new location for 2022 will be announced in the months ahead.

Per a tweet from Denver-based reporter Marshall Zelinger, 6,000 tickets to Seven Peaks Festival were sold before the event obtained its permit from Chaffee County. Local guidelines from the county currently cap outdoor events at 5,000 people due to COVID-19 protocol.

Keith Urban had previously been announced as a headliner for Seven Peaks, on a bill also including acts such as Kip Moore, Travis Denning and Ingrid Andress.

Texas Democrats leave state in effort to block GOP voting restrictions

Democrats in the Texas House of Representatives left the state Monday afternoon heading to Washington, D.C., in a bid to deny Republicans the quorum needed to pass new voting restrictions. With 26 days left in a special legislative session, most House Democrats boarded two planes out of Austin headed for the U.S. capital without a set return date. At least 51 of the 67 Democratic representatives — the number needed to break quorum — were in the process of leaving Monday afternoon, most arriving at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Monday to board chartered flights that departed around 3:10 p.m.

The House is set to reconvene Tuesday morning, but the absent Democrats would mean there will not be enough members present to conduct business under House rules. Democratic leaders said in a joint statement released Monday: “Today, Texas House Democrats stand united in our decision to break quorum and refuse to let the Republican-led legislature force through dangerous legislation that would trample on Texans’ freedom to vote.”

The House and Senate proposals resemble failed legislation, known as Senate Bill 7, from the spring regular legislation session — the demise of which Texas Democrats used last month to make their pitch on Capitol Hill for action on voting rights. The House voting bill as passed by committee over the weekend would rein in local voting initiatives like drive-thru and 24-hour voting, further tighten the rules for voting by mail, bolster access for partisan poll watchers and ban local election officials from proactively sending out applications to request mail-in ballots.

Food & Drug Administration issues new warning on rare autoimmune disorder linked to J&J coronavirus vaccine

On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) warned of an increased risk of Guillain-Barre, a rare neurological disorder, following the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after 100 preliminary cases of the syndrome were reported among the 12.5M doses administered. The agency noted that 95 of the cases were serious and required hospitalization, including one death. The FDA is updating vaccination materials for health care providers and patients to note an “association” between the vaccine and a risk of GBS, however, they said the data are “insufficient to establish a causal relationship.” Similar issues have not been reported tied to the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

The FDA still recommends the vaccine to prevent the serious health risks posed by COVID-19, stating:  “Importantly, the FDA has evaluated the available information for the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine and continues to find the known and potential benefits clearly outweigh the known and potential risks. The chance of having this occur is very low, and the rate of reported cases exceeds the background rate by a small degree.”

According to the CDC, the majority of people who develop Guillain-Barre report the symptoms after having a respiratory illness, including the flu or getting sick with diarrhea. According to the FDA, patients should seek medical attention if they experience a weakness or tingling sensations, especially in the legs or arms, and that might worsen or spread to other parts of the body. Other symptoms might include difficulty walking or making facial movements; double vision or inability to move eyes; or difficulty with bladder control or bowel function.

Chase Rice's connection to Florida Georgia Line goes back to his very first song

It’s something of an understatement to say Chase Rice and Florida Georgia Line‘s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley go way back.

Before they were well-known, the three shared a house in the Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville, and Chase famously helped FGL write their breakthrough smash, “Cruise.” But even before that, Brian guided Chase toward finishing his very first song, as he dealt with the death of his father.

“He helped me finish it,” Chase tells ABC Audio. “I had it started and he helped me. We were in the basement, actually, where my dad passed away. And he came in and helped me tweak it and finalize it.”

“So our songwriting days have gone way back to number one for me,” Chase explains, “and we’ve continued to do it and we’ve continued to have success with it.”

Now with multiple chart-topping singles of his own under his belt — and another likely coming for his FGL duet, “Drinkin’ Beer Talkin’ God Amen” — Chase says there’s no doubt his old friends have left their fingerprint on his music.

“They’ve been a huge part of my career, Brian and Tyler,” Chase reflects, “in helping me figure out — whether they were trying to or not — who I was as an artist, and it’s a pretty special relationship.”

“Drinkin’ Beer Talkin’ God Amen” is from Chase’s latest project, simply titled The Album.
