Lainey Wilson marvels at the healing power of music as “Things a Man Oughta Know” hits #1

This week, Lainey Wilson‘s debut single, “Things a Man Oughta Know,” becomes her very first #1.

While there’s no doubt that’s an impressive accomplishment, the Louisiana native is even more astounded at the impact the song she wrote is having on listeners.

“The power and healing of music really is unbelievable,” Lainey reflects. “And the messages I get daily, like it just continues to blow my mind…”

“I’ve heard from mothers, from single mothers, from dads who are trying to teach their girls a few things a man oughta know,” she reveals. “I’ve heard from guys who gave up and got it wrong.”

“I’ve heard from this one lady,” Lainey adds, “who was about to get a divorce, and she sent the song to her husband, and he listened to it and kind of snapped out of it.”

“Things a Man Oughta Know” makes Lainey the first female solo artist to top the chart with her debut single since Gabby Barrett did in April 2020 with “I Hope.”

“I’m just so grateful that my song is given the opportunity to change lives,” Lainey says. “And it’s crazy how people can latch on to a song, and it can really just set them free in a crazy kind of way.”

“Things a Man Oughta Know” is from Lainey’s Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’ album. She’s currently out on the Back in the Saddle Tour with Jason Aldean.

President Biden urges unity to end COVID-19, expresses hope to avoid ‘new Cold War’ during his address at United Nations General Assembly

In his first address to the United Nations, President Joe Biden has urged global unity through “a decisive decade for our world”. Reaffirming his support for democracy and diplomacy, Mr Biden said: “We must work together like never before.”

At a gathering of the 76th United Nations General Assembly in New York City, Biden addressed climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, both of which have sharpened global divides. Mr Biden urged cooperation on these fronts, saying: “Whether we choose to fight for our shared future or not will reverberate for generations to come. Simply put, we stand, in my view, at an inflection point in history.”

President Biden also stressed that the U.S. is “not seeking a new Cold War or a world divided into rigid blocs,” adding that the U.S. “is ready to work with any nation that steps up and pursues peaceful resolution to shared challenges, even if we have intense disagreements in other areas.”

And despite the widespread criticism by allies on the U.S. pullout from Afghanistan, Biden said the US was ending a “period of relentless war” for a “new era of relentless diplomacy”.

“STAY IN THE FIGHT”: Brett Eldredge opens up about battle with anxiety

Brett Eldredge is opening up about a recent bout of anxiety he’s been struggling with.

The country star took to Instagram to share a photo of himself working out, alongside a lengthy caption detailing how he’s been battling anxiety as of late.

Brett, who has been open about living with anxiety in the past, reveals that it recently reemerged for several days, “out of nowhere,” with symptoms that included shortness of breath and feeling overwhelmed.

“Instead of hiding (like I once did), I stuck to the process, knowing I survived all the other times, and setbacks are common,” he explains. “I kept showing up to life and leaning into the things that give me strength and stability.” In the photo, he’s shown lifting weights.

“It passed and I feel even stronger than before. I took this photo in the middle of the setback to remind myself that even in the tough times, we can be strong as hell, and the storm will always pass if we face it,” he declares. He added the phrase “STAY IN THE FIGHT,” and concluded, “If you're goin’ through it, hang in there, you will be surprised what you're capable of.”

Brett recently announced that he’s releasing a new holiday album, Mr. Christmas, on October 22.

Mickey Guyton calls 'Remember Her Name' ?a form of “therapy”

Mickey Guyton says creating her upcoming debut album, Remember Her Name, was therapeutic.

The project features songs like the affirming “Love My Hair” and empowering “Black Like Me” and “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” that detail the racism and misogyny she’s experienced.

“A lot of these songs were just kind of therapy for me. I never wrote these thinking that they were ever going to be heard,” she explains to The New York Times

Mickey balances the heavy subject matters with an ode to “Rosé” and a new rendition of her 2015 debut single, “Better Than You Left Me,” continuing her mission of creating inclusive music.

“There's so much on this record that is so positive, that is so inclusive. It took them hearing Black Like Me' and What Are You Gonna Tell Her?' to be like, Oh.' I've been here all along.’ I'm still writing positive, inclusive songs. You guys just never heard them,” she continues. “There is only one me. I've never happened before.”

Remember Her Name will be released on Friday. Mickey will make the TV rounds with performances on the TODAY show’s Summer Concert Series on Friday, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, and ABC's The View on Tuesday.
