Luke Bryan shares heartwarming story of grieving young fan

Luke Bryan has dealt with plenty of loss in his life, including the death of both his brother, Chris, and his sister, Kelly, as well as his brother-in-law, Ben. While Bryan wishes he hadn’t endured so much grief, he does say he is grateful he can use his experience to help others, including one little boy Bryan says he will never forget.

“I believe we were in North Carolina,” Bryan recalled in the Dirt Road Diaries documentary about his life. “It was a typical meet and greet. This little blond-headed boy walks up to me and says, Can I ask you a question?' I said, Well, yeah, buddy,' and I got down on one knee.”

It was what the little boy said next that Bryan still remembers to this day.

“He looked at me and goes, I wanna know how you get through every day having lost your brother and your sister, because I lost my sister, and I can't get over it. My heart's broke,” Bryan says. “It was a big moment for me, because I understood the way I live, with a smile on my face, is important to people.”

Bryan is currently on the road on his Proud to Be Right Here Tour. His Farm Tour will kick off on September 9.

Mitchell Tenpenny drops “Truth About You” video

Mitchell Tenpenny just dropped the video for his current single, “Truth About You.” The song, which Tenpenny wrote with Matt Alderman and Thomas Archer, is from his upcoming Midtown Diaries EP, out on September 10.

The video was shot both in Nashville’s famed Billy’s Idle Hour and at Warren Studios.

“This video was so much fun to make,” Tenpenny said. “I love how real it felt when acting the scenes out. It felt more like making a movie than a video and I can't wait for the audience to share that emotion with me.”

In addition to “Truth About You,” Tenpenny is also at radio with Chris Young, on their “At the End of a Bar” duet. Tenpenny is spending the rest of the year on his own tour, which includes his first headlining show at the Ryman Auditorium, as well as joining Young for select dates on Young’s Famous Friends Tour.

Michael Ray say he's “not perfect” after challenges of 2020

Michael Ray is opening up about the challenges of last year, including his divorce from Carly Pearce after less than a year of marriage. The Florida native admits he made mistakes, but says that he has learned to accept who he is, imperfections and all.

“I’m human,” Ray told People. “For a long time, I just wanted everything to be right. But I’m not perfect and my family is not perfect, and my friends aren’t perfect.nobody’s perfect. And instead of being ashamed of that, I’ve started to embrace it now.”

Ray, who just released his telling EP, Higher Education, is eager to move forward in every way, including with his new music.

“I think I’ll be coming out of this year actually better than I went into it,” Ray reflects. “In every way, I’m more confident than I’ve ever been and more accepting of things than I’ve ever been. You have no other choice but to grow and be better.”

The challenges of 2020 including both his divorce and the pandemic, ultimately made him more confident, as an artist and a person.

“Basically, this is what I have to offer,” Ray says. “And it’s going to be great for some and for some, we just ain’t going to fit. But this is where I am at. And I’ve honestly never felt better. I’ve never felt more confident. I’ve never felt more connected with my friends. I’ve never felt such a great one-on-one connection with someone else. I feel like I’ve got my vision back. I feel like I lost it for a little while. There was a time of my life where I felt like I was just crossing off boxes.but not anymore.”

Social Security won’t be able to pay full benefits in 2034 due to COVID recession

The U.S. Treasury Department said Tuesday that Social Security trust funds won’t be able to pay full benefits by 2034, one year earlier than previously projected, due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In its annual summary of Social Security’s reserves, the program’s trustees said the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and the Disability Fund, designed to provide a source of income to former workers who have retired or can’t work due to a disability, have enough combined funds to pay scheduled benefits until 2034. “At that time, the combined funds’ reserves will become depleted and continuing tax income will be sufficient to pay 78% of scheduled benefits,” the report stated.

The Old-Age and Survivors Insurance will be able to pay scheduled benefits until 2033, running out one year sooner than reported last year and the Disability Insurance fund will have adequate funds to make payments through 2057, depleting eight years faster than previously anticipated. The report specifically cited the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic for the accelerated depletion of funds. As a result of the pandemic, the trustees projected increased rates of mortality through 2023, as well as reductions in immigration and childbearing in 2021-22 from the levels projected in 2020.

Carrie, Miranda, Dierks and more keep the CMA Fest party alive with 'CMA Summer Jam'

Even though the Country Music Association was forced to cancel CMA Fest for the past two years because of COVID-19, they’ve found a way to keep its spirit alive. On Thursday night, the all-new CMA Summer Jam premieres at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Recorded in late July in Nashville, the three-hour special promises big names like Carrie UnderwoodMiranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley, as well as the superstar collaborations fans have come to expect from CMA Fest.

“I do have a special guest, Dwight Yoakam, who is gonna be joining me,” Carrie reveals. “And we get to sing a couple of his songs together, which I’m super excited about, ’cause he just oozes coolness.”

Miranda will be bringing on the boys during her set as well.

“I’m singing with two of my pals, John and TJ Osborne, and Dierks Bentley,” she teases. “So I get to hang out with my buddies and sing some country music and some rock ‘n’ roll.”

The foursome tackle an Allman Brothers Band classic.

“[We] came up with an idea to do ‘Midnight Rider,'” Dierks explains. “It’s been done before, but it’s a great song that has a spot for four harmonies. We all get a chance to sing together, which is my favorite part of music anyway.”

In keeping with the spirit of their latest hit, “I’m Not for Everyone,” Brothers Osborne says they’re just glad to be invited.

“At some point in time, we will be irrelevant,” TJ offers, “so the fact that we’re here right now…is really awesome. And what a cool way to kick the touring season back off.”

CMA Summer Jam takes over primetime Thursday starting at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Curfew issued in New Orleans as widespread power outages remain in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida

The City of New Orleans issued a curfew beginning Tuesday due to mass power outages and significant amounts of debris in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. The curfew went into effect Tuesday night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

According to New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, ‘there is absolutely no reason anyone should be on the streets.’ Ferguson followed up the announcement of a curfew saying there have been some issues of looting, with several arrests made, and general safety as New Orleans remains in the dark since Ida’s Sunday landfall. The New Orleans police department (NOPD) will also have the Louisiana National Guard and Louisiana State Police to assist with patrolling the city.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said power could show up as soon as Wednesday, but she urged residents not to get their hopes up. “Based on what I know at this time, there is an expectation by tomorrow late afternoon, into the evening, that we should have some level of transmission to the city of New Orleans,” Cantrell said. “That does not mean we will immediately see all the lights on in the city.” Additionally, while the possibility of power on Wednesday will not mean complete restoration, Cantrell said it will mean Entergy can start focusing on distribution lines, many of which are wrapped up in trees. For most residents, however, power restoration could still take weeks.
