Garth Brooks' Stadium Tour is back on as he puts two long-awaited Ireland shows on the books

Garth Brooks is headed to Dublin, Ireland for a pair of Croke Park stadium shows next September.

The singer shared the news on Instagram this week, and it's exciting for a couple of reasons. Not only do the new dates mean he's resuming his Stadium Tour, which he cancelled earlier this year due to rising pandemic concerns, but his stops in Ireland are also several years in the making.

Back in 2014, Garth sold out five shows at Croke Park as part of his comeback World Tour, but he never made it to the stage. The Dublin City Council refused licenses for two of the five concerts, and according to the Irish Times, Garth insisted that he would play all five shows or none.

Now, the singer is slated to make his triumphant return to the venue, which has a capacity of more than 80,000. The shows will take place on September 9 and 10, 2022, and tickets go on sale on Thanksgiving Day, November 25.

House votes to censure Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar for violent tweets

The U.S. House on Wednesday voted to censure Rep. Paul Gosar for tweeting an animated video of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez being killed. The chamber voted 223-207 in favor of the resolution, with two Republicans — Reps. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill. — siding with Democrats. A censure is the most serious action the House can take to punish a lawmaker short of expulsion from Congress. Gosar, R-Ariz, will be stripped of his committee assignments but will remain a House member. The last time the House voted to censure one of its members was in 2010, against former Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., over ethics violations. It was the 24th time the House had censured a lawmaker in its history.

The tweet, since-deleted showed Gosar and Reps. Marjorie Taylor Green, R-Ga., and Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., as the protagonists of the Japanese anime series Attack on Titan in an altered version of the series’ opening credits as they fly through the air and use swords to fight against Titans, on whom Ocasio-Cortez and President Joe Biden’s faces were photoshopped. “Any anime fans out there?” Gosar wrote on the video.  Gosar was defiant about being censured: “I do not espouse violence against anyone. I never have. There is no threat in the cartoon other than the threat that immigration poses to our country.”

Ocasio-Cortez said: “It is a sad day in which a member who leads a political party in the United States of America cannot bring themselves to say that issuing a depiction of murdering a member of Congress is wrong. The glorification of the suggestion of the killing of a colleague is completely unacceptable. And I think that it’s a clear violation of House rules. I think it’s a sad day. But I think that it’s really important for us to be very clear that violence has no place in our political discourse.

Jacob Chansley, ‘QAnon shaman’, sentenced to 41 months in Capitol riot

Jacob Chansley, the self-styled “QAnon shaman” who became one of the faces of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, has been sentenced to nearly three and a half years in prison for his role in the riot. At a hearing Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., Judge Royce Lamberth sentenced Chansley to 41 months in prison, although he will be given credit for the roughly 10 months he has already served.

Photographs of a bare-chested Chansley carrying a bullhorn and a spear adorned with the American flag in the halls of the Capitol became some of the iconic images of that day.  The Justice Department says Chansley was among the first 30 rioters to enter the Capitol on Jan. 6 as the crowd overwhelmed police and pushed into the building.  Chansley was arrested days later and indicted on six charges, two of which were felonies, and ordered detained pending trial. He ultimately struck a deal with the government and pleaded guilty in September to a single count of obstruction of an official proceeding.

At Wednesday’s hearing, Chansley addressed the court for around 40 minutes, saying he has spent much of the time he’s been locked up reflecting on his life and his actions on Jan. 6, adding: “Men of honor admit when they’re wrong. Not just publicly but to themselves. I was wrong for entering the Capitol. I have no excuse. No excuse whatsoever. The behavior is indefensible.” Chansley admitted that he was guilty, but also said “I am not a violent man. I am not an insurrectionist. I am certainly not a domestic terrorist. I am a good man who broke the law. And I’m doing everything I can to take responsibility for that.”

Before announcing his sentence, Judge Lamberth told Chansley he believes that his remorse is genuine and heartfelt, but he also told Chansley that “what you did was terrible.” He said Chansley had made the right decision to plead guilty and take responsibility for his actions, instead of going to trial where he faced a much longer possible sentence.

Scotty McCreery's “Five More Minutes” has always been special — and now it's inspiring a Hallmark film

Scotty McCreery knew his song, “Five More Minutes,” was special right from the moment he wrote it. “I tweeted that day, like, This is my favorite song I've ever written,'” the singer remembers.

But now, he's got more momentum behind the song than ever. Not only was it a chart-topping, career-changing hit, but as of this holiday season, it's the inspiration behind a Hallmark film of the same name.

Starring Nikki DeLoach and David Hayden-Jones, the film follows a woman who unearths her grandfather's journal — and with it, an untold love story that fulfills her Christmas wish in ways she never expected.

“As a songwriter, that's what you want, is your song to have a positive impact on people,” Scotty reflects. “So now people can watch a movie, and hopefully feel good once it's all finished up.”

However, we won't see Scotty's face on the screen when the movie airs. “I wish,” he laments. “…They do all their filming in Canada, and with COVID and borders and stuff, it was a little funky this year. But hopefully next time.”

In fact, the singer says he'd love to someday tackle an acting project. “I've acted, like, once in my life. It was a high school musical, and it was Bye Bye Birdie,” Scotty reveals, explaining that he was inspired to try out for the role after hearing that the character of Conrad Birdie was based on two of his heroes.

“Once I heard it was like Elvis [Presley] and Conway Twitty in person, I was like, I will try out for that role!'” he adds with a laugh. “Luckily, I got it, and I had so much fun doing it. So I have not acted in 11 years, I think?…So I'd be all about it. I'd be down.”

Five More Minutes airs on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel on November 20.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello announce break up after two years together

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello announced on social media they have broken up after two years of dating. The two shared a joint statement to their respective Instagram stories on Wednesday night, sharing that they plan to stay best friends. The joint statement read: “Hi guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”

The two met while on tour as opening acts for Austin Mahone in 2014, when Cabello was part of the band Fifth Harmony. Mendes and Cabello have collaborated on music over the years and released their first song together, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” in November 2015. They officially started dating in July 2019, and when they took the stage at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles later that year to perform a rendition of their collaboration, “Señorita,” that proved they were more than just friends.

There were no obvious signs recently that the couple were on the rocks; just this past Halloween, the duo shared pictures of their costumes together on social media, and shared a kiss while performing in New York in September.
