Dr. Oz launches campaign for GOP Senate run in Pennsylvania

On Tuesday, TV personality Dr. Mehmet Oz launched his campaign to become the next U.S. senator from Pennsylvania.   Dr. Oz made the announcement in a Washington Examiner op-ed, which sharply criticized how the government has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, asserting that “many” COVID deaths “were preventable.”  Oz wrote:  “During the pandemic, I learned that when you mix politics and medicine, you get politics instead of solutions. That’s why I am running for the U.S. Senate: to help fix the problems and to help us heal.”

Oz’s television show is produced in New York City, but has been a longtime New Jersey resident. He recently registered to vote at his in-laws’ home in suburban Philadelphia. He also attended the University of Pennsylvania for medical school.

In a video released by his campaign, Oz said “Pennsylvania needs a conservative who will put America first.” He also criticized the federal government’s pandemic response, saying, “Washington got it wrong. They took away our freedom without making us safer.”  Oz joins several other candidates who are vying for the seat being vacated by retiring GOP Senator Pat Toomey. Trump-endorsed candidate Sean Parnell dropped out of the race last week, after losing a custody battle amid abuse allegations by his estranged wife..

Businessman Jeff Bartos, former U.S. ambassador to Denmark Carla Sands and conservative commentator Kathy Barnette are among those who are also seeking the GOP nomination. Bridgewater Associates CEO David McCormick, who is married to former President Trump’s deputy national security adviser Dina Powell, is considering a bid for the GOP nomination as well. On the Democratic side, U.S. Representative Conor Lamb, Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman, state Senator Malcolm Kenyatta and Montgomery County Supervisor Val Arkoosh are all vying for the nomination.

To celebrate “Fancy Like” hitting #1, Walker Hayes fulfilled his childrens' Christmas wish

For Walker Hayes, living “Fancy Like” means fulfilling his childrens’ Christmas dreams.

Walker reveals that he and his wife Laney‘s six kids have been begging each year to put up inflatable Christmas decorations in the yard. But with the family being on a tight budget at the time, the singer made a specific promise.

“My kids about six years ago, they wanted Christmas blow ups in the yard, and those are expensive. I told them no, and just on a whim to get them off my back, I said, ‘if dad ever gets a number one song on country radio, I’ll get y’all some blow ups,'” the singer recalls.

Those words became reality when Walker scored his first #1 hit with “Fancy Like” earlier this month, celebrating the achievement by fulfilling his kids’ longtime wish, with the front yard of their Nashville home covered with eight holiday-themed inflatables.

“So when it hit number one, they held me to that promise. Even Laney and I have them,” he describes. “Every kid got to pick theirs out. So there’s our first splurge.”

Despite the song’s massive success, Walker admits he’s not likely to make many other extravagant purchases. For years, the family lived on a tight budget while he worked stocking shelves at Costco and was an aspiring songwriter. Knowing what it’s like to struggle for one’s dreams, Walker says he plans to be responsible with his newfound fortune.

“I don’t think we’ll blow money. We know what it’s like for money to be tight, so we’re honestly pretty frugal,” he notes. “But if you drop by our house right now, it’s pretty tacky.”

Walker has also scored his first Grammy nomination, as “Fancy Like” is up for Best Country Song at the 2022 ceremony.

Dirty Jobs star (and occasional opera singer) Mike Rowe has recorded a holiday song with country music artists John Rich and The Oak Ridge Boys.

Rowe posted on social media:  “Couple weeks ago, under circumstances too weird to explain, John Rich and I decided to record a song for Christmas. America’s not having a great time right now, and we thought a song like this might help put a smile on our collective face. It’s called ‘Santa’s Gotta Dirty Job,’ and I’ll warn you right now — the chorus is an earworm that’s gonna be tough to shake. It’s a dirty little ditty that you can download for $1.29, and I hope you will, because 100 percent of the net proceeds are divided equally between mikeroweWORKS and Folds of Honor, two great charities that are making a difference in the lives of skilled tradespeople and families of veterans.”

John Rich tweeted: Howdy! @mikeroweworks and I have a new Christmas song #SantasGottaDirtyJob out today! Proceeds going to @FoldsofHonor and #TheMikeRoweWorks Foundation! WATCH https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49dCobL213M. Add to your playlist!
