Bottoms up: Thomas Rhett adds a second tequila to his Dos Primos brand

Thomas Rhett is expanding his tequila business.

The singer's Dos Primos tequila line now features a Reposado variant, an easy-to-drink libation made from 100 percent blue agave sourced from Los Altos and Jalisco, Mexico. The Reposado joins the Dos Primos Tequila Blanco, which rolled out in 2021.

Dos Primos is Spanish for “two cousins,” and the name is fitting: Thomas started his tequila line with his cousin, Jeff Worn. Adding the Reposado to their repertoire is something the two men have been hoping to do for a long time.

“When Jeff and I started the Dos Primos Tequila company four years ago, we knew we wanted to continue to expand our tequila family,” Thomas says. “…Similar to our original goal, we've worked hard to make [the Reposado] as versatile as possible, and seamlessly fit into any activity, regardless of the time of year.”

The new tequila variety will be available starting March 2022. For more information, visit the company's website.

“Damn Strait”: George Strait's a fan of Scotty McCreery's musical tribute to him

Scotty McCreery's new musical homage to George Strait, called “Damn Strait,” has gotten a nod of approval from the King of Country himself.

“Damn Strait!” George wrote on socials, posting the song's newly-released music video and tagging both Scotty and the Texas dance hall venue Gruene Hall. That's where Scotty filmed the music video for his song, and where George cut his teeth as a young artist before landing his record deal in Nashville.

In the video for his song, Scotty takes his Strait tribute to the next level, and includes some biographical details about the country legend so that fans who might not be as familiar with George can get to know the Texas-based star.

After George shared Scotty's video, the younger artist expressed his excitement that the song had its namesake's seal of approval.

“Wowww!” he wrote, adding an emoji of a goat to express his fandom. “Glad you like it, George!”

“Damn Strait” hit country radio last fall, and it's currently climbing the top 30. Later this month, the singer will wrap up his Same Truck Tour.

Garth Brooks plans a return to Notre Dame for the next-announced stop on his Stadium Tour

Garth Brooks' ongoing Stadium Tour just got a new date, and it's a venue the singer knows very well.

He announced on Wednesday that he'll play South Bend, Indiana’s Notre Dame Stadium on May 7, making good on a promise he made over three years ago. In late 2018, Garth played to a crowd of more than 80,000 fans, also filming a concert television special called Garth: Live at Notre Dame.

At the time, Garth promised his Hoosier State fans that he'd be back, and he originally hoped to return to Notre Dame for the conclusion of the Stadium Tour, but the COVID-19 pandemic had other plans. Now, three-and-a-half years later, Garth will make his triumphant return.

It's the only 2022 Stadium Tour stop in Indiana, Michigan or Illinois. Tickets go on sale February 25 at 10 a.m. ET, and as always for a Garth Stadium Tour show, it'll be in-the-round seating.

After pausing the Stadium Tour rollout due to the rise of the omicron COVID-19 variant last year, Garth has resumed setting dates for the trek, and he's been breaking ticket sales records and selling out massive stadium venues.

This spring, he's got sold-out shows booked in San Diego, Fayetteville, Arkansas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Tickets are still available for his March 26 Orlando date.

Sandy Hook families and gunmaker Remington agree to historic settlement worth $73M

Gunmaker Remington has agreed to pay more than $70 million to settle a lawsuit with families of nine victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that killed 20 young children and 6 adults almost a decade ago. Court documents filed on Tuesday show that the company agreed to pay $73 million to settle the case, which stems from the assault-style rifle used in the attack — a Remington Bushmaster XM15-E2S AR-15.  The settlement makes history as the first time a gun manufacturer will face liability following a mass shooting in the United States.

The landmark victory comes after a protracted legal battle over how Remington marketed its Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle, which was used in the December 2012 shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. The gunman, Adam Lanza, fatally shot his mother before the elementary school rampage, then killed himself.

The lawsuit made its way through the state Supreme Court after Remington argued it should be shielded under a federal law designed to prevent gun manufacturers from being held liable for crimes in which their guns were used. In 2019, the U.S. Supreme Court said it would allow the suit to go forward. Last July, attorneys for Remington offered nearly $33 million to settle the suit.

In their lawsuit against Remington, which has since filed for bankruptcy, families of the victims argued that the gun maker irresponsibly marketed the weapon to at-risk young men such as the Sandy Hook shooter through product placement in violent video games. As part of the settlement, the families are also allowed to release materials related to how Remington marketed the rifle. Remington, based in Madison, North Carolina, has denied the allegations.

Prince Andrew settles sexual assault lawsuit with his accuser Virginia Giuffre

According to documents filed Tuesday in New York, Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have reached an out-of-court settlement in her sexual assault lawsuit against him.  The two parties will file a dismissal upon Giuffre’s receipt of the settlement, the amount of which is not being disclosed. Giuffre alleges she was trafficked by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and forced to have sex with Prince Andrew on three occasions when she was 17.  The 61-year-old Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.  Representatives in the United Kingdom for Prince Andrew had no comment after news of the settlement was made public.

The settlement documents stated:  “Prince Andrew intends to make a substantial donation to Ms. Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights. Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms. Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks. It is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years. Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others. He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims.”

Prince Andrew’s attorneys had argued back in January to dismiss the lawsuit, after it was revealed that Epstein had reached a $500,000 settlement with Giuffre, in which she agreed not to sue any other “potential defendant.” Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York refused to grant the royal’s motion to dismiss.

Buckingham Palace released a statement on January 13 regarding Andrew’s royal status, saying he was stripped of his military affiliations and royal patronages. They announced at the time: “With The Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen. The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”  It is said that Prince Andrew will likely retain his title as the Duke of York and keep his place in the line of succession to the throne, which is currently ninth behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s two children. However, he will no longer use the style “His Royal Highness” in any official capacity.

Parmalee continue the “positive vibes” with “Take My Name”

Coming off the success of “Just the Way,” Parmalee is staying in the romantic lane with their current single, “Take My Name.” Frontman Matt Thomas says that even before the song was released, fans were eager to make it a part of their special day.

“It’s like the follow up to ‘Just the Way,’ we wanted to keep the energy going and keep the positive vibes, and what better way than a wedding song,” he describes. “It’s been great, people connecting with it, people wanting us to sing at their wedding. Even before we released the song, they were [saying] ‘when can I get this song, my wedding’s on this date, can we have it?’ So it’s really cool. And live, it’s amazing. It just flows right in and everybody’s singing it right back.”

In fact, the song is such a hit amongst fans’ weddings that the members of Parmalee took it upon themselves to actually crash a fan’s wedding with a surprise performance.

“We crashed a wedding here in Nashville and sang that song for the first dance, so it was really cool to be a part of that,” Matt says. “Definitely the first time we’ve all done it together,” adds band mate Josh McSwain, as Matt laughs, “we were nervous. We didn’t want to miss her big day up. But it ended up great.”

In 2021, Parmalee reached the top of the charts with their collaboration with Blanco Brown on “Just the Way,” which became their first #1 single in eight years. “Take My Name” is currently climbing into the top 30 on country radio.
