President Biden to deploy 3,000 troops to Eastern Europe amid Russia-Ukraine crisis

President Biden has agreed to deploy 3,000 additional U.S. troops to Eastern Europe to support NATO and Ukraine to dissuade Russia from any kind of military intervention in Ukraine.  The deployment follows talks between U.S. and Russian officials and a meeting of the United Nations Security Council this week over the Ukraine crisis.

The deployments include 1,000 who will be moving from Germany to Romania, and 2,000 from the U.S. who will head to Germany and Poland. On Wednesday morning, the Pentagon emphasized that the troop movement was temporary and that they would not deploy to Ukraine. ,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said Wednesday: “I want to be very clear about something. These are not permanent moves. They are designed to respond to the current security environment. Moreover, these forces are not going to fight in Ukraine. They’re going to ensure the robust defense of our NATO allies.”

The Pentagon has warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin could launch an invasion of Ukraine at any time.  President Biden has said no U.S. troops would deploy to Ukraine if Russia were to invade, but the administration did say it could deploy troops to the region even before an invasion. The U.S. and its partners in NATO have already sent assets to the region in a show of support. The U.S. has also put 8,500 stateside troops on heightened alert to deploy to Eastern Europe in case NATO activates its shared NATO Response Force, but the alliance has not yet activated it.

“The shackles are off”: TJ Osborne explains how coming out changed his life and music, one year later

One of Brothers Osborne‘s first big hits was their 2016 single “21 Summer.” It was based on a real-life breakup that singer TJ Osborne experienced, but he couldn’t talk about the personal story behind the song: He hadn’t yet come out as gay.

“No one knew that I was in a relationship and no one knew that I just got broke up with,” he reflects. “And I had a lot of inner turmoil and I was bitter that I couldn’t talk to anyone.”

But one year ago, in February 2021, TJ finally shared his story: He came out in an expansive TIME feature, becoming the first openly gay country artist signed to a major label.

TJ and his brother and band mate, John Osborne, worried about what the response would be, but TJ says the reaction to his song was overwhelmingly positive: Not just within the industry, but also from fans they met at their shows when they went back out on tour.

“Seeing that people were there to love and support me, it was incredibly inspiring,” he notes. “It was very refreshing and encouraging to see, [not just] from a personal place, but just to see humanity be that way. It was one of the highlights of going back out on tour.”

And playing “21 Summer” live feels more meaningful now, too.

“To finally be able to play it and talk about that — there’s probably more depth to that song than people even realize,” TJ notes. “To be able to talk about that now, it feels like the shackles are off.”

Brothers Osborne released the deluxe version of their 2020 album Skeletons this year. The duo opened up about that album, and the personal battles they’ve faced together and individually, in a recent episode of ABC’s Nightline.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees were announced on Wednesday, February 2, and country music icon Dolly Parton is among the 17 nominees for induction into the ‘Class of 2022’.   Other artists up for consideration are Beck, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, DEVO, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, MC5, New York Dolls, Rage Against The Machine, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, A Tribe Called Quest and Dionne Warwick.

In order to be eligible for nomination, an artist must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of the nomination. Seven of the 2022 nominees are appearing on the ballot for the first time, including Parton, Beck, Eminem, Duran Duran, Richie, Simon and A Tribe Called Quest.  Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman John Sykes said in a statement: “This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture. Their music not only moved generations, but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed.”

Starting now through April 29, fans can vote every day at vote.rockhall.com or at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame museum in Cleveland. The top five artists selected by fans will comprise a “fans ballot” that will be tallied with the other ballots to choose the Class of 2022.

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Disney’s Encanto reaches No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Disney’s Encanto has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, knocking Adele’s “Easy on Me” out of the top spot after 10 weeks.

According to Billboard, “Bruno” is only the second No. 1 from a Disney animated film. Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle’s Aladdin theme “A Whole New World,” also topped the chart in 1993. We Don’t Talk About Bruno’s songwriter, Lin-Manuel Miranda, also has scored his first No. 1 hit.  Since Encanto debuted on Disney+ on December 24th, its soundtrack surged in popularity, ending Adele’s six-week run atop the Billboard 200.

An ensemble of Carolina Gaitán, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz, and the Encanto cast sing on “Bruno”, which also has set a record for the most credited recording artists for a No. 1 hit on the Hot 100.  The 1985 charity single “We Are the World” was billed to the supergroup ‘USA for Africa’ rather than listing each contributors individually.

Carrie Underwood's pretty impressed with Priscilla Block's car karaoke skills

Rising star Priscilla Block is a big fan of Carrie Underwood, and apparently, the feeling's mutual. Priscilla, who turned heads in 2021 with grassroots viral hits like “Just About Over You,” recently posted a video to her socials of her and a car full of friends singing along to Carrie's duet with Jason Aldean, “If I Didn't Love You.”

The song was a number-one smash hit on country radio, and Priscilla and her pals knew every word. “When the chorus hits,” Priscilla wrote alongside the video — and Carrie herself soon replied.

“You hit back,” the country superstar wrote in response, with a smiley face and heart emoji.

Carrie's just one of a growing number of fans of Priscilla's vocal chops, and the young star will further expand her fanbase with next month’s release of her debut album, Welcome to the Block Party.

This week, Priscilla also announced her headlining Welcome to the Block Party Tour, which kicks off February 10 in Las Vegas.

Kelly Clarkson remakes Dolly Parton's classic “9 to 5” — with Dolly herself

Kelly Clarkson has a musical surprise for fans: She’s recorded a new version of Dolly Parton‘s classic “9 to 5” with newly minted Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee Dolly herself.

The song features in a new documentary called Still Working 9 to 5, which examines the landmark 1980 comedy and the impact it had on the women’s movement at that time, as well as how its message still continues to resonate today as women continue to fight for equality in the work place.

The doc features the stars of the original film — Dolly, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman — plus Rita Moreno from the spinoff TV series 9 to 5, as well as Allison Janney, appeared in the Broadway musical based on the film.  There are also interviews with activists and individuals associated with the women’s movement, both in the past and today.

The documentary’s closing song is the new version of the original “9 to 5” theme song, produced by country music super-producer and songwriter Shane McAnally.  Audiences will get to hear it for the first time when the movie has its premiere at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, on March 13.  There will also be screenings March 14 and March 18.

ABC Audio has confirmed that the song, which was recorded at the end of 2021, will be commercially released in the middle of 2022.

Cole Swindell announces fourth studio album, 'Stereotype': “Here we go!”

Cole Swindell has a new project in the works. He announced plans for his fourth album, Stereotype, on social media on Wednesday, and also shared the project’s cover art.

“Here we go!” he wrote in the caption of his post, and also dropped some details about the new batch of tunes. The record will be out in full on April 6, and in advance of its release, he’ll share a new song at midnight called “I’m Gonna Let Her.”

In the weeks leading up to the big reveal, Cole had been teasing his new album on social media. In late December, he shared that he was “wrapping up” the album, and just one day before he officially announced it, he shared two images with fans on socials, asking them to pick a favorite. He didn’t say what they were for, but now that the news is out, it’s clear that they were options for the cover art.

Last month, Cole also announced his headlining Down to the Bar Tour. His current single, a duet with Lainey Wilson called “Never Say Never,” is inside country radio’s top 20.
