Eggs surging in price after deadly bird flu affects U.S. poultry industry

The U.S. poultry industry is battling a surge of the contagious bird flu which has already killed millions of chickens and turkeys this year.  With Easter just weeks away, the supply of eggs has vastly dwindled, causing increased prices for consumers.

According to a report released Monday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 22.8 million birds have been affected by the bird flu.  Highly pathogenic strains of avian influenza are sweeping through 24 states, including Wyoming, Maine and in particular, Iowa. Counties in Iowa which produce over 1 billion eggs annually have declared disaster in light of the outbreak. About 5.3 million birds in Iowa’s Buena Vista County have caught avian flu.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the bird flu isn’t known to cause major health concerns in humans. The CDC announced in March that the current strains lack the changes seen in previous strains that put humans at greater risk for infection and severe illness.

Officials at the state level are urging owners of commercial and backyard flocks to keep their birds indoors. The bird flu’s deadly impacts are hurting the poultry industry and the seasonal demand for the Easter and Passover holidays.

Carrie Underwood admits that she still gets “really nervous” before live performances

Even though she’s been performing on some of the world’s biggest stages for more than 15 years, Carrie Underwood still gets nervous at awards shows.

During the 2022 Grammy Awards, Carrie made the debut live performance of her new single, “Ghost Story,” and while she kept her composure onstage, the superstar singer admits she had butterflies.

“I was nervous,” she laughs of how it felt to perform during the major awards show. “It’s nerve wracking anyway, any time I’m on TV. I feel like when I’m in my live show, if I mess up, I have two hours to make up for it. But whenever you’re doing live television, you get one shot to just give it your all and do your best. So I get really nervous.”

The hit singer adds that having some of her musical heroes in the audience was also part of her live show jitters, but that the Grammy performance is setting the stage for the exciting next phase of her career.

“Then you add all of the other artists and musicians that I look up to, they’re sitting there in the audience watching me just adds on to the nerves,” she describes. “But it was exciting and I’m glad that we have new music and just excited for everything else to follow.”

Carrie took home the Grammy for Best Roots Gospel album for My Savior. Later this month, she’ll headline Stagecoach Festival on April 30 before returning to Las Vegas for her residency, Reflection, that resumes on May 11.

“Bigger and better than ever”: Dierks Bentley's Seven Peaks Festival returning to Colorado

Dierks Bentley‘s Seven Peaks Festival is returning.

The “Beers on Me” singer announced on Monday that the Colorado-based festival is coming back after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The three-day event taking place over Labor Day weekend, September 2-4, will be housed at a new location at San Luis Valley in Villa Grove, CO.

The festival was previously held in Buena Vista, CO in 2019 and 2018.

Dierks shared the news via a humorous video that shows him packing for the cross-country excursion, pouring sand out of his boot while preparing for the great outdoors by reading a copy of “Prepper” magazine while going to the bathroom in a bucket.

“I'm excited to announce that this year @SevenPeaksFest is coming back bigger and better than ever.” Dierks shared on Twitter, adding in a statement, “I can't overstate how much it means to be able to say that Seven Peaks is officially coming back. We found the perfect new location for the festival in Villa Grove. Everyone knows how much I love Colorado and how important it was for me to find a home for this one-of-a-kind event that encompasses all the magic of the beauty of the state.”

Dierks also teases that the lineup is “so good” and he will be announcing more details on April 13.

The country star has been a longtime fan of Colorado, as he and his family spent much of their time in the state during the pandemic. He also opened a Denver location of his bar, Whiskey Row, earlier this year.
