Karine Jean-Pierre to replace Jen Psaki as new White House press secretary

On Thursday, President Joe Biden announced that Karine Jean-Pierre will replace Jen Psaki as White House press secretary later this month.  Said Biden of Psaki: “Jen Psaki has set the standard for returning decency, respect and decorum to the White House briefing room. I want to say thank you to Jen for raising the bar, communicating directly and truthfully to the American people, and keeping her sense of humor while doing so. I thank Jen her service to the country, and wish her the very best as she moves forward.”

Biden said of Jean-Pierre: “Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris administration on behalf of the American people. Jill and I have known and respected Karine a long time and she will be a strong voice speaking for me and this administration.”

Jean-Pierre is currently the White House’s principal deputy press secretary and deputy assistant to Biden; she previously worked as the chief of staff for Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign. Jean-Pierre will also notably become the first Black and openly LGBTQ White House press secretary in history.

Psaki has served as the top spokeswoman of the administration since Biden’s inauguration; she is expected to depart the White House on May 13. The announcement comes after rumors that Psaki was in talks for a job with MSNBC.

President Biden approves disaster declaration for New Mexico due to devastating Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon wildfire

President Joe Biden has approved a disaster declaration for New Mexico due to a wildfire that’s been burning for weeks in the northern part of the state. Fire officials say the The Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon Fire is just 20% contained, but has burned more than 160,000 acres. The blaze began about a month ago and is the result of two wildfires merging into one. The Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon Fire is the largest presently burning in the United States.

Biden’s approval of the federal disaster declaration makes federal funds available for thousands of people affected in New Mexico’s Colfax, Lincoln, Mora, San Miguel and Valencia counties. The White House said the assistance includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, and low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses. It also includes other programs to help people and businesses recover.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a statement: “New Mexicans cannot wait for these fires to be extinguished to receive relief. That’s why I expedited the state’s request for emergency aid for individuals, and I’m grateful to President Biden for recognizing the urgency of the situation in our state.”

Maren Morris's son watched saw her 'Sesame Street' episode for the first time: “He loves Elmo”

Maren Morris only has one special vocal guest on her latest album, Humble Quest, but it's an important one. Her young son, Hayes, lends his voice to “Hummingbird,” a track that Maren wrote the day she found out she was pregnant.

“He’s like the only little feature on it,” the singer tells ABC Audio. “But yeah, his sweet little voice is eternally marked in this song.”

Hayes was born in March 2020, and since then, he's given Maren a new perspective on everything. That includes songwriting and touring to her TV guest spots, like an appearance she made on Sesame Street in February 2020, just before he was born, when she sang a song called “Oops! Whoops! Wait, ah Hah!”

“I actually, a couple weeks ago, showed Hayes my episode of Sesame Street that I did,” Maren says, who notes one of Hayes' favorite Muppet characters, Elmo, sang backup with her.

“He loves Elmo,” says Maren. “But seeing me in the television was very bizarre to him. I don't think he understood what was going on — like, Oh, you're here and you're there.'”

Now that Hayes is getting a little older, though, she hopes that she'll have more opportunities to do guest spots that have some crossover with his interests. “I hope I can do Sesame Street again and bring Hayes, because he will lose his mind,” Maren says.

Morgan Wallen to perform at Billboard Music Awards after being banned in 2021

Morgan Wallen will perform at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards later this month, a little over a year after footage of the country singer saying the N-word emerged, causing major backlash for the singer.

The Billboard Awards is set to take place on May 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and will mark the first performance at a major awards ceremony for Wallen since last year’s controversy saw him banned from that year’s Country Music Awards, American Music Awards and the Billboard Music Awards.

Video emerged of Wallen saying the racial slur back in February of 2021, just a month after the release of his second album, ‘Dangerous’. The musician was quickly dropped from radio stations and playlists, and suspended from his label Big Loud. However despite the controversy, Wallen saw a surge in album sales.  Wallen said in a statement at the time: “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologise for using the word. I promise to do better.”

Wallen has definitely made a comeback; earlier this year he kicked off a North American tour in support of ‘Dangerous’, and last month he won ‘Album of the Year’ at the Academy of Country Music Awards.

Miranda Lambert shares whimsical behind-the-scenes snaps from the making of 'Palomino'

Miranda Lambert's new album, Palomino, has been out for just under a week. As fans get to know the project and pick out their favorite tracks, Miranda is reminiscing about the making of the album.

She shared some snapshots on social media this week, including multiple photos of her collaborators Luke Dick and Natalie Hemby. “SCENES from the making of Palomino,” Miranda jokes in the caption of her post, referencing the album's track “Scenes” — which she, Luke and Natalie co-wrote.

Actually, that trio was responsible for writing the bulk of Palomino tracks. “Tourist,” “Music City Queen,” “Strange,” “I'll Be Lovin' You,” “That's What Makes the Jukebox Play,” “Pursuit of Happiness” and “Carousel” are all also the product of co-writing sessions between Luke, Natalie and Miranda.

Speaking of “Carousel,” the photos Miranda posted seem to embody a loose carnival theme. One photo shows an old, defunct carousel horse, while another shows the songwriting trio seated beside a life-size knight in pink armor.

Palomino contains Miranda's current single, “If I Was a Cowboy.”
