D.C. Attorney General sues Mark Zuckerberg for Cambridge Analytica data leaks

Washington D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine is suing Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, claiming decisions that he made in 2018 allowed Cambridge Analytica to expose millions of users’ personal data. The suit, filed Monday in the District of Columbia Superior Court, charged the Facebook founder with violations of the District’s Consumer Protection Procedures Act for failing to protect Facebook users’ data before and after the Cambridge Analytica leak. Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has not commented about the lawsuit.

Racine said in a news release:  “The evidence shows Mr. Zuckerberg was personally involved in Facebook’s failure to protect the privacy and data of its users leading directly to the Cambridge Analytica incident. This unprecedented security breach exposed tens of millions of Americans’ personal information, and Mr. Zuckerberg’s policies enabled a multi-year effort to mislead users about the extent of Facebook’s wrongful conduct.”  Racine said he filed the lawsuit against Zuckerberg after evidence surfaced during the ongoing litigation that showed a failure to protect user’s personal and consumer privacy: “This lawsuit is not only warranted, but necessary, and sends a message that corporate leaders, including CEOs, will be held accountable for their actions.”

In December 2018, Racine filed a lawsuit against Facebook, after Cambridge Analytica shut down over accusations it data-mined 87 million Facebook users. Cambridge Analytica said a “siege of media coverage” of its dealings with Facebook had driven away customers, leaving the company no longer viable. In 2019, Facebook settled with the Federal Trade Commission for $5 billion over the company’s handling of the Cambridge Analytica leak.

1 dead, 2 seriously injured after 4 people fall down 300-foot cliff in Southern California

Los Angeles police said that four people — two men and two women — plunged at least 300 feet over the side of a cliff in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. Monday morning, leaving one dead and three people injured on a beach below an ocean cliff early Monday. Two of the people suffered traumatic injuries while the fourth person suffered a minor injury and was able to walk away. The deadly fall happened around 4:45 a.m., about an hour before sunrise. First responders began their rescue and recovery operation around 5:45 a.m.

Reports state that one person was hoisted from the bottom of the cliff by a helicopter, and brought to the top of the cliff, while a second person was airlifted straight to the hospital. A second person was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Both people taken to the hospital are in critical condition.

No car was involved in the fall, and L.A. County Fire officials say they all appeared to have been on foot. Palos Verdes Estates is on the Palos Verdes Peninsula at the south end of Los Angeles County. A trail runs along the bluff top high above the Pacific Ocean. The area where the fall happened was described as very unstable, with very loose soil, and no fencing in the area.

Tyler Hubbard says “5 Foot 9” is a “good launchpad” for solo artist career

Tyler Hubbard‘s new single, “5 Foot 9,” is a sweet tribute to his wife, Hayley, but he admits the title has one slight error.

In the heartfelt song, Tyler sings of a woman who is “5 foot 9” with “brown eyes in a sundress,” but it turns out, he accidentally missed his wife’s height by an inch.

“She’s actually 5’10”. I went home that night and said, ‘Babe, remind me again how tall you are exactly. You’re about 5’9″, right?’ She said, ‘Yeah, I’m 5’10”.’ And I thought, ‘Well, here’s a new song I wrote today. I’m sorry I cut you short by an inch, but I hope you like it,'” he reveals.

“5 Foot 9” is Tyler’s debut single as a solo artist after spending nine years as one half of the duo Florida Georgia Line. The Georgia native has been on a songwriting kick since embarking on his solo career, writing a collection of new material that tells his story in a unique way. He says that “5 Foot 9” is a “prime example” of a successful day in the writing room and is one of 18 songs that he plans to release.

“I love all of the songs about equally, which made it very difficult. They all have a different purpose and a different feel, and it’s all a little piece of who I am and tells my story,” he says of the unreleased music. “But I think ‘5 Foot 9’ was a good launchpad and a good foundation for the rest of this music and what’s to come in my story and where I’m at.”

Tyler recently signed a record deal as a solo artist under EMI Records Nashville.

NBC announces the holiday film ‘Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas’

NBC revealed that Dolly Parton will return to television with “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas,” a new Christmas special this holiday season. A statement from NBC describes the new show as “the frenetic backstage story and delightful on-camera results of Dolly’s desire to uplift an exhausted world’s spirits by sharing the unique ’mountain magic’ she has always found in and around Dollywood at Christmas.”

The made-for-television musical is set at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and will according to NBC is will document Parton in the making of a special-within-a-special as she becomes engulfed in “a private journey into her past, guided by the mysterious appearances of her personal Three Wise Men.  Parton has an epiphany when it’s time to broadcast her fictional television special. She diverts from the plan and shows the world that the real magic of Christmas lies in the hearts of the children we all once were, the realization that Christmas is about the people we share it with, and how her faith remains the common thread between Christmases past, present, and future.”

In 2015, Parton signed a development deal with NBC to create movies based on her songs, stories and life. Her first two films were Coat of Many Colors in 2015, and Christmas of Many Colors the following year.

Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard announces new solo single ‘5 Foot 9’

Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard announced earlier this month that he has signed as a solo artist to EMI Nashville and now he’s sharing news about his solo project, which he’s been working on for over a year.

The first single off that project is called “5 Foot 9,” set to drop on May 20. Hubbard wrote the song with Jaren Johnston — of The Cadillac Three — and Nashville songwriter Chase McGill. Hubbard shared in a statement: “Songwriting is central to everything I do as an artist. It has allowed me to connect with fans for many years, and I’m excited for everyone to hear new music for a new chapter in my career.”

Florida Georgia Line announced that they were going on hiatus in February, but Hubbard has been keeping busy. Doja Cat cancels upcoming all summer tour dates due to tonsil surgery

Doja Cat has cancelled her upcoming festival appearances, as well as pulling out of The Weeknd’s summer After Hours Til Dawn tour, due to tonsil surgery.

Doja wrote on her Instagram Story: “Hi guys. I wanted you to hear it from me first. Unfortunately I have to have surgery on my tonsils ASAP. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all.”

Last week, Doja Cat took to Twitter to tell fans about her procedure in detail and warned that she “might have some bad news for y’all coming soon.” She said her tonsils got infected before Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards.  She wrote in part: “Dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil. I had an abscess in it. My whole throat is [expletive]. … My tonsils got infected before BBMAs and I was taking [expletive] antibiotics but forgot that I was taking them and then I drank wine and was vaping all day long. Then I started getting a nasty [expletive] growth on my tonsil so they had to do surgery on it [Thursday].”

Doja Cat was scheduled to appear at multiple summer music festivals, including a planned set Saturday at the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Ala. She also was lined up for the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival on June 22.

Miranda Lambert one of 'Time's “100 Most Influential People of 2022”

Miranda Lambert‘s influence is expanding beyond country music’s borders.

Miranda has been named one of Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People of 2022” and is the only country star to appear on the elite list of world figures, politicians, artists and more.

“I'm so honored to join this year's class of #TIME100. I only ever wanted to sing and write songs and thanks to y'all I've gotten to do that and so much more,” the “Tin Man” singer says of the distinguished honor. “Thank y'all for being on this journey with me.”

A tribute written by Miranda’s “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” duet partner, Elle King, refers to the superstar as an “acclaimed performer and songwriter” who’s intentional about “making everybody feel welcome.” Elle also praised Miranda for including her as part of the all-female lineup for her 2019 Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour.

“That's her vibe: she's all about making everybody feel welcome. And there is not one inauthentic hair on her head,” the singer says, citing Miranda as a “true country queen.” “Her shows are incredible; from start to finish, she gives it her absolute all … But the reason that I like Miranda so much is because she is one of the absolute funniest people I've ever met. When she and I get together, we don't lose our voices because we're singing or because we're drinking. It's because we laugh the whole time.”

Miranda and Elle recently topped the country charts with “Drunk,” which became the first #1 female country duet in nearly 30 years.
