The devil's in the details in Carly Pearce's new single “What He Didn't Do”

Carly Pearce continues her hot streak with the announcement of her new single.

What He Didn’t Do” is the third single off Carly’s critically acclaimed, CMA-nominated album 29: Written in Stone. The album finds a woman on the other side of a breakup who, rather than explicitly detailing all the ways her ex hurt her, lets his actions do the talking as she describes how he didn’t put her or their love first.

“All I know is in the end/It wasn’t what he did/It was what he didn’t do,” she affirms in the chorus.

Carly says the song was born from a place of pain and finding the courage to move through it, coming out on the other side with more clarity and strength.

“Life goes on. You KNOW that when you're reeling.feeling like the fool and so hurt… but then there's a moment when those emotions start to clear. That's when you look in the mirror and you ask yourself what happened and try to learn from your mistakes. That's where ‘What He Didn't Do’ came from,” she explains. “To me, it's really a song of hope and trying to get smarter before moving forward.”

“What He Didn’t Do” follows her #1 hit “Never Wanted to Be That Girl,” featuring Ashley McBryde.

Ashley McBryde answers the call, sings backup for Eric Church at Madison Square Garden

Eric Church‘s headlining show at Madison Square Garden was made even more impressionable with the presence of Ashley McBryde

When Eric’s backup singer, Joanna Cotten, tested positive for COVID and announced she was unable to perform during the final night of The Gather Again Tour, the Chief knew just who to call to fill in. Ashley held her own inside the massive arena, where she sang backup for Eric in front of a crowd of more than 17,000 people. Videos captured by fans show her harmonizing on his chart-topping hits “Springsteen” and “Hell of a View,” along with a cover of Bruce Springsteen‘s “Thunder Road.”

“When the Chief @ericchurchmusic calls from @thegarden, you answer,” Ashley wrote in the Instagram caption accompanying photos from the special night. “Thanks for answering,” the headliner replied, adding in a statement, “when Joanna had to sit this one out, we immediately knew who to ask. Ashley is meant for arena stages, and she'll be headlining her own show at MSG soon.”

This is one of many times the two have collaborated. Eric invited Ashley onstage to sing “Bible and a .44” with him in Chicago in 2017 during his Holdin’ My Own Tour. They also performed “The Snake” at the 2019 ACM Awards, and Ashley joined Eric during his medley of hits at the 2022 ACM Awards.

Suspect still at large in fatal shooting on NYC subway that killed one passenger

A suspect is still at large while New York City Police officers continue the search for a gunman who shot and killed a subway passenger, in what investigators describe as an unprovoked attack. Emergency responders attended to the victim at the scene, and he was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he later died. His identity has not yet been released. No others were injured in the shooting.

NYPD Chief of Department Kenneth Corey announced at a press conference that the suspect was pacing back and forth in the last car of a Manhattan-bound Q train as it crossed over the Manhattan Bridge around 11:45 a.m. Sunday when he pulled out a gun and “without provocation” fired it at a 48-year-old passenger at close range, striking him in the chest, witnesses told investigators.  When the train pulled into the Canal Street station — the first Manhattan stop on the Q line — the suspect fled. NYPD Chief Corey described  the suspectas dark-skinned with a beard and “heavy-set” and last seen wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and white sneakers. Preliminary information suggests there was no prior contact between the victim and suspect.

Sunday marks the second New York City subway shooting in recent months. On April 12, 10 people on board the N train were shot as it approached the 36th Street station in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood. The alleged gunman, Frank James, is being held without bail on charges of carrying out a terror attack against a mass transit system and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

78,000 pounds of baby formula shipped from Germany arrives in the U.S.

A shipment of infant formula arrived in Indianapolis on Sunday, in the hopes of helping to alleviate the nationwide formula shortage. A C-17 cargo plane that originated in Switzerland was trucked to Germany where it was loaded with the formula and flown to the United States. The shipment contains hypoallergenic formula that will be fed to babies intolerant of protein in cow milk.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the shipment of 78,000 pounds of specialty infant formula arrived in Indiana on Sunday morning.  Jean-Pierre added that the formula was manufactured in an FDA-approved facility and would be inspected on arrival: “We prioritize this for the first shipment because this formula type serves a critical medical purpose and is in short supply in the United States as the result of the Abbott Sturgis plant closure,” she said.

President Joe Biden wrote on Twitter on Sunday: “Folks, I’m excited to tell you that the first flight from Operation Fly Formula is loaded up with more than 70,000 pounds of infant formula and about to land in Indiana. Our team is working around the clock to get safe formula to everyone who needs it.”

A Biden administration official told CNN that the formula contained in the shipment will be distributed to hospitals, doctors, home healthcare facilities and pharmacies, with none making its way to store shelves.  Indianapolis was chosen as the arrival site for the formula, which includes Nestle Health Science formula, as a Nestle distribution site is located in the city. A Nestle spokesperson said: “Some cases are ready for distribution in the next couple of days. Others will be released into the supply chain after standard quality testing is completed.”  FedEx partners will assist with the sorting and distribution of the formula.

The United States has been facing a formula shortage since Abbott Nutrition, the largest infant formula manufacturer in the United States, announced a recall of several lines of powdered formula on Feb. 17, after they were linked to infections in infants.

Why Scotty McCreery's favorite George Strait song isn't among tracks he name-checks in “Damn Strait”

Scotty McCreery pays homage to the King of Country himself in his current single, “Damn Strait,” a track that strings together references to some of George Strait's biggest hits to tell a new breakup story.

Scotty didn't write the song — Trent Tomlinson and Jim Collins are the writers on the track — but the singer says he was immediately impressed by how “Damn Strait” didn't just name-check classic country songs, but used them to create a new narrative.

“Even if you don't know this George Strait song — which, shame on you if you don't — but if you don't, you still get the song, you know?” Scotty tells ABC Audio.

But Scotty's very favorite George Strait ballad — “The Chair” — actually doesn't make an appearance in the lyrics of “Damn Strait.”

He tried to find a way to reference that song, since it's such an important and influential track for him. “My favorite George Strait song that I always go back to, if I'm in the shower or washing dishes, is The Chair.' I always go back to that,” he says. When it didn't fit into the lyrics of his song, Scotty was hoping to include a musical reference to the track.

“In the demo, we put the steel guitar lick [of The Chair'],” he says. “And then, in the actual recording, I think it was a little too close for comfort for the lawyers.”

“Damn Strait” is one of the tracks on Same Truck, Scotty's album from September 2021.

John Driskell Hopkins of Zac Brown Band shares ALS diagnosis

Bassist John Driskell Hopkins of the Zac Brown Band has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) — also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS ‘is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control. While symptoms vary based on individual cases, it generally is recognized by muscle weakness that spreads and gets worse over time.’

The 51-year-old Hopkins, who is a founding member of the country band, stood beside his bandmates in an Instagram video while sharing the diagnosis: “I have tough news to share. Over the past several years, I’ve noticed some balance issues and some stiffness in my hands. After careful analysis by some of the country’s top neurologists, I’ve been diagnosed with ALS. Because my symptoms have been slow-progressing from the start, we believe they will continue to be slow progressing going forward. God willing, I plan to be rocking with these amazing people for many years to come.”

Hopkins has since launched the ‘Hop on a Cure; foundation to help search for a cure. Lead singer Zac Brown explained in the social media video: “The technology and research around ALS treatments has been advancing, but we still don’t have a cure. Thanks so much for your prayers and helping us cure ALS.”

Hopkins — who shares three daughters with wife Jennifer Hopkins — is currently performing with the band on their “Out in the Middle” tour.  The Zac Brown Band is also comprised of musicians including Coy Bowles, Clay Cook, Daniel De Los Reyes, Jimmy De Martini, Chris Fryar and Matt Mangano.
