Humble Quest: Maren Morris is taking fans' requests on tour

Maren Morris has something special planned for fans on her upcoming Humble Quest Tour.

The superstar singer revealed on social media that she’ll be diving into her vault of past songs, as she plans to play acoustic versions of deep cuts off her previous albums as requested by fans.

“There is a moment of this tour set that I'm gonna try to sing older, random album songs that weren't singles. Just me & my guitar if you shout it or write it on a poster,” she explains in a Twitter thread, adding with a crying laughing emoji, “seriously having to learn some archival sh**.”

In the comments, several fans requested numbers off her chart-topping debut album, Hero, including “Bummin’ Cigarettes” “Company You Keep,” “Once” and “Space.”

“That one is always in my back pocket,” Maren said in response to requests for “Bummin’ Cigarettes,” while assuring another fan who asked her to sing “Space” during her show in Asheville, North Carolina, next week that she “will learn it!”

The tour is named after Maren’s new album, Humble Quest, which includes her current top 10 single, “Circles Around This Town.” It kicks off on June 9 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and runs until December 2, when it wraps at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

Mass shooting in Philadelphia, PA leaves 3 dead, 11 injured

Philadelphia police confirm that a mass shooting took place late Saturday night, leaving three people dead and at least 11 other people injured.  Police Inspector D.F. Pace said that officers patrolling the area heard gunfire from South Street, an entertainment district with bars and restaurants, just before midnight and saw “several active shooters shooting into the crowd.”  One officer fired his weapon at one of the shooters but Pace said that it was not clear if the suspect, who dropped the gun and fled, was hit.

Said Pace: “There were hundreds of individuals just enjoying South Street, as they do every single weekend, when this shooting broke out.”  No arrests have been made but police recovered two semiautomatic handguns at the scene, including one with an extended magazine.  The three victims who were killed, two men and a woman, have not been identified. The conditions of the victims who were wounded were not immediately known.

After a separate incident just a few blocks away near 4th Street and Bainbridge Street, police officers found 13 bullet casings, and are investigating whether the incidents are connected.  In a third shooting just a couple blocks north of South Street, and about two hours after that incident, police responded to reports of gunfire on Broad Street. A man was found nearby unconscious and with multiple gunshot wounds nearly an hour later, and after being taken to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead.

At least 3 dead, 14 injured in shooting near Chattanooga, Tennessee bar

At least three people were killed and 14 were injured early Sunday morning, after a shooting near a bar in Chattanooga, Tenn.

In a press conference on Sunday, Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy said that two victims died from gunshot injuries and a third died after being struck by a vehicle in the shooting, which took place at around 2:45 a.m. Additionally, 14 people were injured by gunfire and three more were hurt as they were hit by vehicles while attempting to flee the scene.  Murphy added that 16 of the victims are adults and one is a juvenile; and several of the victims remain in critical condition.

Investigators believe that more than one person opened fire during the shooting. Police Chief Murphy said the incident was not related to the Riverbend Festival, an annual music festival taking place in the city over the weekend, or another shooting that took place 3 miles away on the other side of downtown Chattanooga in which three people sustained non-life-threatening injuries.  She added that there is no immediate danger to the public.

Jon Pardi had to wait years to record “Last Night Lonely,” but “a good song will stick with you”

Jon Pardi's “Last Night Lonely” might be new to fans, but the singer says he actually had the current single waiting in his pocket for quite a while before he got the chance to record and release it.

“I think I've had it on hold for about two years now,” Jon says, explaining that due to the timing of his prior singles, which had long careers on country radio, he had to wait longer than he expected to record and release it.

But that actually turned out to be a good thing. “It was always good when I heard it, and once we recorded it, it was even better,” he says, adding that keeping a song in the chamber for a long time is a great litmus test for whether or not it has staying power.

“A good song will stick with you,” Jon continues. “And if I do have a song on hold a long time, and it still sounds just as good as it did the first time you heard it — when you're going [in the studio], record it. That's a good sign.”

“Last Night Only” is a different kind of love song, describing two people in a bar meeting for the first time and wondering if that night might be the last time they ever go home single.

And while Jon's single days are well behind him — he tied the knot with his wife, Summer, in November 2020 — he admits he's still not immune to the occasional lonely night while he's out on tour.

“Somebody asked me, When was your “Last Night Lonely”? I was like, Well, you know, I'm a touring musician. Sometimes it gets lonely on the road,'” Jon jokes, before dissolving into laughter.

But these days, during his lonely nights, Jon has the thought of his wife to comfort him. “I just go back to my wedding night, you know. All the lovey gushy stuff,” he adds.
