Kane Brown takes on role of grand marshal for Ally 400 NASCAR Cup Series

Kane Brown was the grand marshal for the Ally 400 NASCAR Cup Series this weekend, and it appears he had a great time.

On Sunday, the country hitmaker shared a series of snaps from his racing adventure in Nashville, which started with a police escort to the Nashville Superspeedway. On Instagram Stories, Kane revealed that he wore a Dale Earnhardt shirt to the race that fellow NASCAR legend Richard Petty took the liberty of signing.

“When you wear a Dale Earnhardt shirt to the race and Richard Petty gets mad and signs it,” Kane says in the video shrugging with a laugh, adding the caption, “2 kings” with several fire emojis. He posted photo evidence of Richard signing the shirt.

The “Good As You” hitmaker also shared a video from his suite that shows the cars racing around the track as he cheers on Martin Truex Jr.

To make the day even more special, Kane invited two members of the Boys and Girls Club, an organization he’s been a longtime supporter of, to help give the command for drivers to start their engines.

Maren Morris gets emotional on stage in wake of Roe v. Wade ruling

Maren Morris offered an emotional performance of “Hummingbird” following the news that Roe v. Wade was overturned.

While in Columbus, Ohio over the weekend, Maren got choked up while performing the song that she wrote after finding out she was pregnant with her son Hayes. The song opens with the baby softly saying, “Mama.”

In a video posted by a fan account, Maren and her guitarist Annie Clements, who’s a mother to a young girl, wrap their arms around each other as they passionately sing, “I’ll hold you in my lovin’ arms/But I’ll let you fly free/Hummingbird, hummingbird/Now your heart beats in me.”

Maren later took to Instagram to share photos of the tender moment, showing her arm wrapped around Annie as she cries with her face in her hands; the two friends also embrace each other in a hug.

“Mothers,” Maren simply captions the performance.

On Friday, in wake of the Roe v. Wade announcement, which overturns the federal constitutional right to abortion, Maren told Rolling Stone in a statement, “Today, I hold my two year old son with tears streaming down my face because all my love and planning still wasn't enough to protect him from being born in a country who could do this to women. Women, the ones who gave each Supreme Court Justice on the bench the right to be here, the dexterity of their pen hand. Tomorrow I will fight, but today I am grieving.”

Kenny Chesney sings with Old Dominion at their pop-up show in Chicago

Kenny Chesney had the time of his life during a surprise appearance at Old Dominion‘s show in Chicago on Friday.

The night before they all took the stage at Soldier Field stadium in Chicago for the Here and Now Tour, Kenny decided to support his opening act during their pop-up set at the famous Joe’s on Weed St.

OD was performing “Save it For a Rainy Day,” the #1 hit that band members Matthew Ramsey and Brad Tursi co-wrote for Kenny, when the singer himself came on stage, much to the surprise of the intimate crowd. A fan video shows the superstar grinning from ear to ear as Matthew and Brad trade vocals and the crowd sings along. Kenny also supported on guitar before hopping on the mic to close out the chorus.

“When in Chicago…,” the hitmaker captioned his post about the event alongside a series of photos that show him and the band beaming as they join together on stage.

This isn’t the first time Kenny has popped up at an OD show. In April, the “Knowing You” singer surprised fans when he appeared at the group’s pop-up show at Crowbar in Tampa, the night before his Here and Now Tour launched.

Kenny, OD and fellow opening acts Carly Pearce and Dan + Shay continue on the Here and Now Tour through the end of August.

President Biden announces the U.S. will contribute $200B U.S. investment in global infrastructure at G7 summit

President Joe Biden announced during a summit with the leaders of the Group of Seven on Sunday that the United States will contribute $200 billion to a global infrastructure initiative. The United States committed to provide $200 billion to the program throughout the next five years in combination with contributions from other G7 members for an overall target of $600 billion.

Biden said in remarks at the summit: “Developing countries often lack the essential infrastructure to help navigate global shocks like a pandemic, so they feel the impacts more acutely and they have a harder timer recovering in our deeply connected world. That’s not just a humanitarian concern. It’s an economic and a security concern for all of us.”

The effort comes as China has spent nearly a decade investing in infrastructure in Africa and Asia, including financing for projects such as seaports and 5G wireless networks through its Belt and Road Initiative. Biden did not explicitly mention China during his remarks but said that when “democracies do all that we can offer” they can triumph over autocracies and offer “better options for people around the world.” Said Biden: “This isn’t a charity. It’s an investment that will deliver returns for everyone, including the American people, the people of all our nations. It will boost all of our economies and give a chance for us to share our positive vision for the future.”

In remarks before the meeting, Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the nations will “continue working on the economic challenges” each faces while standing together against Russia’s aggression in Europe. A senior White House official said that Biden and other G7 leaders will “continue to work to hold Putin accountable” while the United States, Britain, Canada and Japan announced they have banned the import of Russian gold, which is Moscow’s largest non-energy export at about $15.47 billion last year.

Officials confirm 3 dead, 2 injured in Amtrak train collision with car in Brentwood, CA

Officials confirmed that three people were killed and two others seriously injured after an Amtrak train collided with a car in Brentwood, California on Sunday. The two people who were wounded, including a child, suffered serious injuries and were both sent to John Muir Medical Center, according to officials.

The tragedy occurred at about 1 p.m., in an unincorporated Brentwood area when the car was crossing the train track near the 3000 block of Orwood Road and was hit by a westbound train headed from Stockton to Martinez, said Steve Aubert, fire marshal with East Contra Costa Fire.

There were 89 people aboard the Amtrak train but nobody was hurt onboard the train, officials said. Fire officials told news outlets that they are called out to that location at least once or twice a year because it is a train crossing without a traffic guard.

The crash is currently under investigation.

The cover of Luke Combs' 'Growin' Up' is a nod to the early days of his career

The cover of Luke Combs‘ new album, Growin’ Up, comes from a personal place.

When brainstorming ideas for the cover, which features half of the singer’s face over a sketch drawing of a bar with neon signs advertising ice cold beer, Luke pulled inspiration from the early days of his career before he was a chart-topping superstar.

The image serves as an homage to the local bars he used to perform at in his home state of North Carolina before moving to Nashville where he’s since become one of the biggest artists in country music.

“I really wanted it to feel like those bar gigs that I was playing a lot when I started out, especially in North Carolina, so that’s where the idea came from,” he explains. “I almost wanted it to feel like when you see the bar in the background, it almost looks like I’m walking in the bar to do a show. [That] was in my head what I thought it was going to be is like we’re walking in and there’s a stage, if you were to flip the camera around, there would be a stage that I was walking to.”

Though the album dropped on Friday, Luke already has a hit on his hands and another on the way, as the lead single, “Doin’ This,” became his 14th #1 hit last month. The current single off the album, “The Kind of Love We Make,” is also racing up the top 30 on country radio.
