Uvalde, Texas school district puts police chief Pete Arredondo on administrative leave

The superintendent for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District announced that the embattled police chief Pete Arredondo has been placed on administrative leave. Arredondo has been criticized for his handling of the shooting at Robb Elementary School on May 24 that killed 19 third and fourth graders and two teachers, and the decision to delay police entry into the classrooms where the gunman carried out the attack. Arredondo served as the incident commander on the scene of the shooting.

Dr. Hal Harrell, superintendent of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, said in a statement Wednesday that the leave will take effect immediately, and Lt. Mike Hernandez will assume the duties of the Chief of Police.  Said Harrell: “From the beginning of this horrible event, I shared that the district would wait until the investigation was complete before making personnel decisions. Today, I am still without details of the investigations being conducted by various agencies. Because of the lack of clarity that remains and the unknown timing of when I will receive the results of the investigations, I have made the decision to place Chief Arredondo on administrative leave effective on this date.”

During a state Senate hearing Tuesday on school safety, police training and social media in the wake of the shooting, Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw read aloud from a transcript of police radio communications, revealing that nearly an hour after the gunman entered the school, an officer told the police chief, “People are going to ask why we’re taking so long.” Arredondo replied, per the transcript, “We’re trying to preserve life.”

Earlier this month, Arredondo said he did not consider himself the commanding officer on the scene on the day of the shooting, and that no one told him about the 911 calls that came in during the 77 minutes before the gunman was taken down. He said:  “We responded to the information that we had and had to adjust to whatever we faced. Our objective was to save as many lives as we could, and the extraction of the students from the classrooms by all that were involved saved over 500 of our Uvalde students and teachers before we gained access to the shooter and eliminated the threat.”

On Tulip Drive, Jimmie Allen is ready to share his story: Each song is “from a moment in my life”

Both of the albums Jimmie Allen has released so far have had a personal family connection: His debut, Mercury Lane, was named after the street he grew up on. His next projects, Bettie James and its lengthened Bettie James Gold Edition, were named for his late grandmother Bettie Snead and his late father, James “Big Jim” Allen.

“You know, I'm very sentimental,” the singer explains to ABC Audio. “I love things about my family, my hometown.”

Still, he's never dug quite as deep into his personal life as he will on his next album, Tulip Drive, which arrives Friday, June 24.

By now, fans who've been following Jimmie's career won't be surprised to learn that the album takes its name from a real place in Jimmie's past. His grandmother lived on Tulip Drive when he was a kid.

“This album…is all about the street my grandmom lived on, things I experienced when visiting her there and even living with her for a little bit,” Jimmie says. “Talking about relationships with friends, family — girls I dated before, in high school and in college.”

But the autobiographical inspiration behind the album doesn't stop there. “This is the first album where every song on the album is directly from a moment in my life,” the singer reveals. “This is a part of my career and my musical journey that I've been wanting to share, you know? Something a little bit more personal.”

When Jimmie started making his new record, he knew it was time. “I was like, You know what? We're gonna do that on Tulip Drive,'” he recounts.

Tulip Drive will be out on Friday, June 24. The lead single, “Down Home,” is a powerful and personal tribute to the memory of his dad.

Harry Styles announces new Gucci collection ‘Ha Ha Ha’

Harry Styles has teamed up with Alessandro Michele to create the Gucci ‘Ha Ha Ha’ collection. The capsule’s name blends Styles and Michele’s first initials and represents the laughing face emoji they have used in conversations with each other for years.  Styles has worn Gucci since he struck out as a solo artist in 2017, covering Vogue in a Gucci gown, and wearing a sheer Gucci shirt at the Met Gala.  He is also always seen wearing his beloved Gucci ring.

The capsule collection merges both of their personal styles with a ‘70s vibe.  Michele told Women’s Wear Daily: “He has an incredible sense of fashion. He is obsessed with clothes. He keeps sketches and an archive. He could easily be a stylist or a designer and is very free, representative of this new generation that is interested in so many things. I have been observing his ability to combine items of clothing in a way that is out of the ordinary compared to the required standards of taste and common sense and the homogenization of appearance. It’s sophisticated, and we paid a lot of attention to fabrics and sartorial details.”

The 25 piece collection includes flared pants, pink and green houndstooth, sweater vests, gingham suits, animal-print motifs and more. The collection will be in stores in October and was unveiled as part of Milan Men’s Fashion Week.

Meghan Trainor announces new single ‘Bad For Me’ with Teddy Swims

Meghan Trainor took to social media to reveal that her upcoming single “Bad For Me” with Teddy Swims will be arriving on Friday (June 24).   Meghan shared the news along with the cover art, which features the duo in green outfits, sitting among a floral landscape at sunset. When teasing the song on TikTok, fans got a taste of the lyrics that capture an addiction to a toxic relationship.

Trainor released her latest album, Treat Myself, in January 2020, telling Billboard of the LP: “I’ve heard weird opinions from everyone [about what the album should be], so I kept writing the best songs I could. Every time I accomplished a new step in my songwriting world, my brain would go, ‘Uh-oh, the rest of the album needs to be this good.’ And finally I got to a place where my label and I were like, ‘Okay, I can’t beat these songs.’

Dustin Lynch heads back down to the beach for unreleased new song “Fish in the Sea”

Looks like Dustin Lynch isn’t leaving “Party Mode” anytime soon.

The singer’s latest album, Blue in the Sky, features a number of songs that are feel-good, uptempo odes to his love of the water and summertime fun, and he’s keeping that theme going in the new music he’s currently writing and recording, too.

Dustin shared a clip of an unreleased song called “Fish in the Sea” on his social media this week, and the track would be right at home in the world of Blue in the Sky. Set on a hot summer day at the beach, the song’s lyrics take a break from work and responsibilities in favor of a carefree day off.

In fact, the new song even features the album’s title — Blue in the Sky — in its chorus.

“There’s a lot of rum in my coke / Rum in my coke / Got a tiki bar bartender floatin’ my boat,” Dustin sings. “A lot of blue in the sky / Blue in the sky / All the waves just wavin’ my worries goodbye…”

When he shared the clip, Dustin asked fans to let him know if he should put out the new song officially. Whether he does or not, there’s a good chance you might be able to hear him play “Fish in the Sea” live this year: His Party Mode Tour continues with another leg this fall.

Luke Combs' “Better Together” is a top wedding song, and Dan + Shay, Chris Stapleton are popular choices too

Better Together,” Luke Combs' romantic hit single from 2019, is one of the top choices for newlyweds picking wedding and first dance songs.

That news comes from wedding site Hitched.co.uk, which compiled data from Spotify playlists. Out of all popular playlists featuring the term “Wedding” or “First Dance,” Luke's song appears in 211 of them, making “Better Together” the most popular wedding/first dance choice from the country genre.

Some fans might be surprised to learn that Dan + Shay don't hold that title, as they're known for their romantic songs that fans often use for proposals, weddings and other special events. But the ballad-slinging country duo is also a popular musical choice for those planning a wedding.

Out of all wedding-related Spotify playlists, their song “From the Ground Up” makes an appearance on just 85, and the artists themselves appear on 224 — meaning that Dan + Shay have so many wedding-ready songs, fans have several to choose from.

As an artist, Chris Stapleton appears on 179 wedding-related playlists; his song “Tennessee Whiskey” is the most popular selection, appearing 108 times.

Curiously enough, while Luke's “Better Together” is ranked number five in first dance playlists, it's tied in that spot with another song called “Better Together” — from a completely different genre. Luke’s song and Jack Johnson's 2005 pop hit both respectively appear on 211 playlists.
