Maren Morris & Zedd return with “Make You Say”

Maren Morris and Zedd are hoping for “The Middle” magic to strike twice on their new collaboration, “Make You Say.”

The song was co-written by Zedd, Maren, Charlie Puth, songwriter/producer Jkash and BEAUZ: brothers Bernie and Johan Yang.  Zedd had been working on the song with BEAUZ for three or four years, Billboard reports, and then Charlie got involved. Maren recorded a demo of the track, and then the two met in Nashville to record the final version.

Speaking about “Make You Say” to Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Maren says, “I think when you just feel it in your gut, you’d be stupid not to say yes…a great song is a great song. So I’m very flattered and honored to be a part of it.”

Zedd notes, “I think Maren‘s voice just has everything that a good voice needs. It’s got character. You immediately can tell who it is. She has this amazing rasp, which to me is always a bit of emotion that I look for.”

The video for “Make You Say” debuts later this morning.

Back in 2018, “The Middle,” by Zedd, Maren and the electronic duo known as Grey, reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s been certified six-times Platinum, and scored two Grammy nominations.

Shelton says his song takes him back to the 90s

“I get excited and feel like a kid every time we release new music,” Shelton shares. “But this song, in particular, takes me back to the ‘90s when I was in high school and first moved to Nashville, because it feels like what the music sounded like at that time.”, Jeremy Chua wrote on theboot.com.

For Thomas Rhett, the bromance is real: “I love Riley Green”

You’d naturally think the fast-rising hit “Half of Me” is the brainchild of Thomas Rhett and Riley Green. But TR reveals that’s not the case at all.

“I wrote this with my dad [Rhett Akins] and Josh Thompson and Matt Dragstrem on the road in 2020,” Thomas recalls. “And immediately we were like, ‘This song is begging for a collaboration.'”

“And Riley and I have gotten really close over the last couple years,” he continues. “We’ve been hunting buddies and [have] gotten to do some shows together, and I wrote a couple songs on his last record, and it just kind of felt like it was time for me and Riley to do something together.”

And after all, what could be better than a tune about some bros having some brews?

“He’s just the perfect dude for this song,” TR reflects. “And I remember having him do his vocal about a year ago at my producer’s house, and I was like, ‘This is amazing.'”

“I wish there was more to say about why I picked Riley,” he confesses, “but I just, I love Riley Green and we’re friends and I’m a fan of his, and I really wanted him to be a part of this project.”

You’ll find “Half of Me” on Thomas Rhett’s latest album, Where We Started.

Want a “New Truck”? Dylan Scott says you “Can't Have Mine”

Now that Dylan Scott‘s successfully parked his “New Truck” at #1, he’s following it up with “Can’t Have Mine.”

“Find you a girl that loves her daddy/And talking ’bout babies makes her happy. Yeah, take it from me, that’s the kind you need to find/You just can’t have mine,” the Louisiana native sings in the romantic ballad that continues the sentiment of his first #1, 2016’s “My Girl.”

The inspiration for both tunes, Dylan’s wife, Blair, stars alongside him in the song’s lyric video. The couple celebrated their sixth anniversary in May, having dated since they were in high school.

“Can’t Have Mine” is the latest single from Dylan’s new album, Livin’ My Best Life.

What are Jimmy Fallon and Jimmie Allen doing with Dolly at Dollywood?

It looks like Dolly Parton may have a little Christmas present for us.

The legendary philanthropist and musician has been spotted shooting something at her East Tennessee theme park. Alternately, she’s been seen being escorted around in a golf cart alongside Willie Nelson, while photos emerged of Jimmy Fallon in the ’50s section of the park, sporting a leather jacket and a hairstyle inspired by either Elvis Presley or the Fonz.

The Red-Headed Stranger and the Tonight Show host are reportedly working on a holiday movie with Dolly. In 2020, Jimmy duetted with Dolly on Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” for her A Holly Dolly Christmas album, while Dolly and Willie go back even further than their 1982 top-10 duet, “Everything’s Beautiful (In Its Own Way).”

Titled Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas and set to air on NBC, according to Knox News, it’ll also feature Jimmie Allen, as well as Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus.

Of course, Dolly already has quite a stable of yuletide films, ranging from 1986’s A Smoky Mountain Christmas to 2020’s Christmas on the Square.

Not just an “Old Chunk of Coal”: Combs, Church and more cover John Anderson

Luke CombsEric ChurchAshley McBryde and Brothers Osborne are just some of the artists who cover country legend John Anderson on the new Something Borrowed, Something New tribute album.

Luke breathes new life into “Seminole Wind” from 1992, while Ashley sits down at the bar for 1991’s chart-topping “Straight Tequila Night.” Eric and Brothers do the lesser-known “Mississippi Moon” and “You Can’t Judge a Book (By the Cover),” respectively. Jamey Johnson mines “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I’m Gonna Be a Diamond Some Day).”

Eight more artists — primarily from the world of Americana — round out the record. Interestingly, no one steps up to bat for Anderson’s campy classic from 1983, “Swingin.'”

The other side of “What He Didn't Do”: Carly Pearce is “Happy Now”

It’s safe to say Carly Pearce has put behind her the heartbreak that she so ably chronicled on 29: Written in Stone.

If you’re looking for proof, just check out the beaming Instagram photo with her boyfriend, Riley King. “Making the most of the hours we get these days,” the CMA and ACM Female Vocalist of the Year added, tacking on a heart emoji.

So what do we know about Mr. King? The 28-year-old Missoula, Montana, native is a former minor league baseball player who was signed by the Kansas City Royals in 2013. He also played for the AZL Royals, Burlington Royals and the Idaho Falls Chukars. He now works in real estate, having founded his own Cowan King Group.

Of course, Carly was famously wed to fellow country artist Michael Ray in October 2019, before their unexpected divorce the next summer. Both Carly’s latest album and her current hit, “What He Didn’t Do,” were inspired by the experience.
