Dolly Parton announces new Dollywood roller coaster Big Bear Mountain, the longest in the park

On Friday, Dolly Parton announced a new roller coaster called Big Bear Mountain, which is coming to her Dollywood theme park next spring. At 3,990 feet, it'll be the longest coaster in the park.

Big Bear Mountain is based on the legend of a massive black bear who roams the Smokies, leaving signs and clues as to his whereabouts, though no explorer has ever seen him. That just might change with the construction of the new coaster, which invites Dollywood guests on a rollicking ride through the wilderness.

Featuring immersive on-board audio, a first for the park, a top speed of 48 mph and a pass behind a waterfall, Big Bear Mountain will be filled with thrills, twists, turns, steep drops and near encounters with the black bear.

“The Smokies are all about adventure and going exploring,” Dolly says. “I'm excited our guests will be able to head out on their own trip into the Smokies to see if they can find that Big Bear! Whether he's out there or not, I'm sure they'll find a lot of memories along the way that they'll keep forever.”

Big Bear Mountain has an anticipated opening date of spring 2023. Guests can preregister for their 2023 Dollywood passes from August 5 to September 30.

Those who register early will have access to an exclusive Big Bear Mountain ride event when it opens, as well as the guaranteed lowest price on passes.

Breland slows it down for new duet with Lady A, “Told You I Could Drink”

Breland shows off his slow jam chops with “Told You I Could Drink,” a new collaboration with country trio Lady A.

Attended by the group's signature vocal harmonies, Breland captures the sting of a breakup in his heartache ballad, with lyrics that recount memories of turning to the bottle, first to toast a new relationship and then to mourn its loss.

“I told you I could drink / Told you I'd be fine / Told you I would move on if you left me behind,” Breland sings in the chorus. “Cause you pushed me to the brink / And I ain't got no time / To sit around and wait for you to make up your mind …”

“Told You I Could Drink” brings out some R&B elements — a relatively new turn for Breland, but one that's consistent with his commitment to genre-bending country music.

Fans already got to know his rafter-raising vocal runs and sing-a-long country chops on “Beers on Me,” a collaboration with Dierks Bentley and Hardy, which was the up-and-comer's first #1 at country radio.

He also showed off his gospel leanings on “Praise the Lord,” a duet with Thomas Rhett, and pop stylings with “Cross Country,” released both as a solo version and as a duet with Mickey Guyton. Through it all, Breland is establishing himself as a lyrical master with a fresh spin on country songwriting. He'll paint a more complete picture of his artistic identity with the release of his full-length debut, Cross Country, due out in early September.

1 dead, 11 sickened in Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in Napa County, California

A Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in California’s Napa County has caused one death and nearly a dozen hospitalizations since mid-July.  Public health officials have found one possible source of the bacteria that causes the illness, with high levels of Legionella bacteria being found in a water sample taken from a cooling tower at Embassy Suites Napa Valley. However, none of those who were sickened had visited or stayed at the hotel.

According to a Napa County statement“The cooling tower has since been taken offline, which mitigates any ongoing risk to public health.”  Dr. Karen Relucio, the county’s health officer, said in the statement that county and state public health investigators have been working with hotel staff to “remediate the source of exposure, but we must continue to investigate other cooling towers and water sources in the outbreak area, as it is common to find more than one source.”

Legionnaires’ disease is a type of pneumonia caused by a bacteria that grows in warm water. People can get Legionnaires’ disease when they breathe in water vapor containing the bacteria. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Outbreaks are commonly associated with buildings or structures that have complex water systems, like hotels and resorts, long-term care facilities, hospitals, and cruise ships. The most likely sources of infection include water used for showering, hot tubs, decorative fountains, and cooling towers.” The disease isn’t contagious, and can be treated with antibiotics, but can be dangerous for some people, such as those with pre-existing conditions. Symptoms include muscle aches, fever and chills.

A dozen Napa County residents have been hospitalized with the disease since July 11. Three remain hospitalized and one person died; the county said that person was over the age of 50 and had “risk factors for severe disease.”

Jackson Dean's been on the 'Yellowstone' soundtrack, wouldn't be opposed to an on-screen role either

There's no question about it: Jackson Dean's song “Don't Come Lookin'” being featured on the Yellowstone soundtrack definitely gave him a leg up toward country music success.

“It played a massive, massive part in it,” the singer affirms, citing one recent appearance he made at Hwy 30 Fest in Idaho, when he was one of the only acts in the lineup who didn't hail from Texas.

“We were, like, the black sheep,” he remembers, but adds that he had an in with the crowd. “Massive, massive Yellowstone fans at that festival. It was great. It was really awesome.”

Multiple fans who recognized him from the soundtrack for the TV series approached him at that show. “I had probably 30 people come up to me and be like, Hey man, we know you from Yellowstone. And that's how we found you.'”

Jackson's already had a song feature in the hit TV series, and the singer says he's not opposed to participating in the show in an on-screen capacity, too. After all, there's plenty of precedent for country stars scoring acting gigs on Yellowstone: Lainey Wilson is on the upcoming season, and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are the co-stars of 1883, the recent Paramount+ prequel.

“You know, I mean, if Kevin Costner wants to shoot a bad guy — I mean, I can play a good bad guy,” the singer continues. “I am not opposed at all, in any way, shape or form.”

For now, Jackson is enjoying a career as a rapidly rising country star. “Don't Come Lookin'” is currently nearing country radio's top 10.
