Lady A named this year's recipient of the Nashville Symphony's “Harmony Award”

Lady A is getting a spotlight at the Nashville Symphony's annual Symphony Ball this December. The country trio will receive the organization's “Harmony Award,” an honor presented each year to a Nashville-connected artist, group or industry figure.

According to the Tennesseean, the “Harmony Award” — which celebrates those who “exemplify the harmonious spirit of Nashville's musical community” — will be presented at the symphony's fundraising gala, set to take place at Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

Others who have won the award in the past include Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini and Toby Keith.

Over their years as a band, Lady A has been the recipient of many awards and honors, including recognition for the charitable efforts and contributions to the Nashville community.

Recently, though, the band has kept relatively quiet: They postponed their planned Request Line Tour a year in order to support bandmate Charles Kelley's decision to get sober.

“So, right now in order to be the healthiest, strongest and most creative band we can be, Lady A will take the time with the support of our families and team of professionals to walk through this together,” the band said in a statement at the time.

The group will receive their award at the Symphony Ball on December 10.

Keith Urban, Tim McGraw + more feature on Rita Wilson's 'Now & Forever: Duets' album

Keith Urban, Tim McGraw and Willie Nelson are just a few of the featured collaborators joining Rita Wilson for her new 70s cover album, Now & Forever: Duets.

The track list features a span of guest vocalists from a variety of different genres — for example, Smokey Robinson and Elvis Costello each get a feature — but country music is especially well represented. Jimmie Allen and Vince Gill also join Rita for a track.

According to Billboard, Rita chose to focus on 70s covers because of the personal significance the decade holds for her.

“I wanted to honor where I came from with songs from the ’70s,” the singer explained. “It was really about showing enormous appreciation for the songwriting of that period — how these songs are still relevant even though they're 50 years old. This album is really a continuation of sharing who I am musically, and what it is that I want to say.”

Now & Forever is due out September 27.

Atlanta police officers will not be charged in the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks

A specially appointed prosecutor announced that no charges will be pursued against the two white Atlanta police officers who clashed with Rayshard Brooks during a 2020 encounter, ending with the 27-year-old black man’s fatal shooting. Pete Skandalakis, executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia, believes that Officer Garrett Rolfe – who shot and killed Brooks in June 2020 — acted appropriately. Skandalakis also said the second officer involved in the encounter, Officer Devin Brosnan, will not be charged.

Police responded on June 12, 2020, to complaints of a man sleeping in a car in the drive-thru lane of a Wendy’s restaurant. Police body camera video shows the two officers having a calm conversation with Brooks for nearly 40 minutes before telling Brooks he’d had too much to drink to be driving and attempted to arrest him.  Brooks resisted arrest, and in a struggle caught on dash camera video, Brooks is seen grabbing a Taser from one of the officers and fleeing, while firing at Rolfe. Rolfe fired his gun in return, with an autopsy finding that Brooks was shot twice in the back.

Skandalakis and former Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter, who was co-counsel in the case, spent about an hour during the news conference on Tuesday walking through the details of the encounter between Brooks and the two officers. Porter showed still images taken from videos to break down what happened once things turned violent.

Rolfe was fired a day after the shooting, but his dismissal was overturned in May 2021 by the Atlanta Civil Service Board. Five days after Brooks was killed, then-Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard announced warrants had been taken out against Rolfe and Brosnan, with charges against Rolfe including felony murder, aggravated assault and violation of his oath. Brosnan was charged with aggravated assault and violating his oath. Skandalakis said Tuesday that he would file paperwork to dismiss those warrants.

Autopsy confirms body found in Northern California reservoir is missing 16-year-old Kiely Rodni

The Placer County Sheriff’s office said in a statement on Tuesday that the body found inside a submerged car in Northern California on Sunday has been confirmed to be missing teen Kiely Rodni, who disappeared at a campground party in the area about three weeks ago. Authorities and volunteers had been searching for the 16-year-old Rodni and her car since she was last seen at the Prosser Family Campground around 12:30 a.m. on August 6th.

According to Nevada County Sheriff Shannan Moon, the volunteer dive group Adventures with Purpose found Rodni’s car submerged in the Prosser Creek Reservoir (located about 17 miles north of Lake Tahoe and 36 miles from Reno, Nevada) a little more than half an hour into their search. The volunteer dive team, which has more than 2.4 million subscribers on YouTube, typically takes on cold cases, not active investigations. The group has helped solve 23 missing person cold cases since 2019.

The Placer County Sheriff’s office said Tuesday that Kiely’s cause and manner of death were not released, and the investigation into her death is still ongoing. Their statement read: “The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office are in communication with Kiely’s family and offer our deepest condolences to them during this extremely difficult time.”

When Mitchell Tenpenny + Chris Young are “At the End of a Bar,” hilarious hijinks almost always ensue

Mitchell Tenpenny and Chris Young just notched a chart-topping hit with their duet, “At the End of a Bar,” a song that Mitchell says is particularly special because it's based on real-life events.

The two artists are good friends, and they often meet up at local Nashville hot spots like Tin Roof or Losers Bar & Grill. “And that's where the song came from,” Mitchell recounts to ABC Audio.

“We were totally just having fun talking, and we went to write the song — or, went to write a song — that day, and we're like, Man, you should've seen us tear it up at the end of a bar the other day,'” he explains. “And I was like, Man, that sounds like a song that we might need to write about today.'”

What exactly do the two artist pals get up to when they're “At the End of a Bar” together? Well, Mitchell says their antics might involve golf arcade games, goofing off with other country stars or just hanging out.

“We have saved Jon Pardi from a fight one time,” Mitchell continues. “Multiple artists, we have gotten hammered there. A lot of Golden Tee, a lot of trash talk. But more than anything, good memories.”

That's because Mitchell and Chris have been close since they first met when Mitchell signed to Chris' record label. “He just kind of latched on to me, and was so kind to me and gave me all this advice,” the younger star says. “And with that comes a lot of drinking.”

Hot on the heels of his latest hit, Mitchell is preparing for the release of his next album, called This is the Heavy, on September 16.
