Death toll rises to 6 after mid-air plane crash at air show in Dallas

Officials said on Sunday that the death toll has risen to six after a mid-air plane crash at an air show in Dallas.  Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a statement: “According to our Dallas County Medical Examiner, there are a total of 6 fatalities from yesterday’s Wings over Dallas air show incident. Authorities will continue working today on the investigation and identification of the deceased. Please pray for their families and all involved.”

The two aircraft were both vintage collections from the Commemorative Air Force and were part of an air show that was being held at Dallas Executive Airport. Details of the crash (caught on video) remain unknown. The B-17, nicknamed “Texas Raiders,” was one of about 45 complete surviving examples of the model, only nine of which were airworthy. The other aircraft was a P-63 which was even more rare. Only 14 are known to have survived.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson tweeted, “As many of you have now seen, we have had a terrible tragedy in our city today during an airshow. Many details remain unknown or unconfirmed at this time. The @NTSB has taken command of the crash scene with @DallasPD and @DallasFireRes_q continuing to provide support. The videos are heartbreaking. Please, say a prayer for the souls who took to the sky to entertain and educate our families today.”

The Allied Pilots Association said in a statement that two of the victims were former members and identified them as Terry Barker and Len Root: “We are saddened to report that former APA members CA Terry Barker and CA Len Root were among the crew members lost on B-17 Flying Fortress during the Wings Over Dallas airshow today. Our hearts go out to their families, friends, and colleagues past and present.”

Margo Price debuts her new single, “Lydia”

Margo Price is sharing her latest song, titled “Lydia.”  Price said in a statement: “I wrote ‘Lydia’ in one sitting in a tiny hotel room after walking around the city of Vancouver one day,” I was jet lagged and feeling really depressed, hopeless, but instead of taking a nap, I picked up the guitar and the words just flowed out all in one quick moment. I hit record on my phone to make a demo and sort of blacked out or went into this meditative state, and boom — eight minutes later, I had this song. It’s one of the only songs I’ve ever written that doesn’t have any real melody or even rhyme, but somehow it still works. Songs like that are rare and don’t come often.”

Price added, “It was inspired by a cacophony of things. There was a women’s health clinic and a methadone clinic with a needle exchange right outside of our venue. I was looking into the eyes of the people I passed and thinking about their stories and really being a conduit for pain. The song feels like a premonition now, with women’s rights being stripped and all the abortion bans happening. When I listen back, I hear what might go through a woman’s mind when she has a difficult decision to make about her body, her choices and her future.”

“Lydia” appears on Price’s upcoming album Strays, due out January 13th.  She is also in the midst of a book tour for her memoir Maybe We’ll Make It. For tickets to all of Price’s upcoming tour dates, head to Ticketmaster.

You can listen to a live performance of ‘Lydia’ here.  The video was shot at Nashville’s Downtown Presbyterian Church and backed by a string quartet of Chauntee Ross, Nicole Neely, Kristin Weber, and leader Larissa Maestro,

Dolly Parton wins $100M award from Jeff Bezos to put to “great use”

Dolly Parton is known for her charm, twang and award-winning songwriting but, behind the big hair and cowgirl boots, is also one of the most distinguished philanthropists – who now has an extra $100 million from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to put to “great use.”

The legendary singer, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last week, accepted The Bezos Award for Courage and Civility Saturday, which included a reward of $100 million.

“[Dolly Parton] gives with her heart. What she's done for kids, and literacy, and so many other things, is just incredible,” Bezos said while presenting Parton with the award.

In 1986, Parton founded the Dollywood Foundation, a non-profit organization that began by offering scholarships to local high school students in the singer's home state of Tennessee. The foundation grew to include Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a program that sends a child free books from birth until the age of 5.

Nearly four decades later, the program has since expanded internationally and in 2020 the foundation celebrated its 150 million books gifted, according to its website.

Parton also made a notable contribution to supporting the development of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine. Parton donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center at the height of the 2020 pandemic to support vaccine research teams.

“When people are in a position to help, you should help. And I know I've always said, I try to put my money where my heart is,” Parton said while accepting the award Saturday. “I will do my best to do good things with this money.”

Maddie & Tae explain the song Maddie Font was scared to share on 'Through the Madness Vol. 2'

Maddie & Tae's Through the Madness Vol. 2 rounds out a 16-song musical chapter that the duo began in January with Vol. 1 of the project, and its songs mark a new step in their evolution as artists and songwriters.

But some growth is painful, and the band's Maddie Font admits there was one song on Vol. 2 that she initially didn't want to release.

“These Tears' was one that I really did not even want to share with our A&R,” the singer explains to Kelleigh Bannen during a new installment of Today's Country Radio With Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music Country.

“I was hiding it because we had written it and I was fresh out of therapy getting into my childhood stuff that I needed to work through,” Maddie continues. She and bandmate Taylor Dye wrote the song with co-writers Laura Veltz and Jonathan Green.

The song describes letting tears from old wounds flow, years after the fact – and Maddie strongly considered keeping the painful track to herself. But her duo partner ultimately pushed her to change her mind.

“We were just in the moment and Tae's like, You've got to play this.' And so we did,” she recounts. “And it ended up on the record and I was so terrified.”

When she heard the finished product, though, Maddie knew she'd made the right decision. “It's almost like my younger self is saying, Thank you for doing that,'” she concludes.

Kelsea Ballerini shuts down “who wore it better” chatter after rocking same dress as MacKenzie Porter

After Kelsea Ballerini and MacKenzie Porter rocked the same blue Balenciaga gown for the 2022 CMA Awards red carpet this week, Kelsea's keeping a tight leash on commentary that pits the two artists against each other.

She shared footage on TikTok from a user who posted side-by-side shots and compared her look to MacKenzie's, then offered her response.

“It's giving blue is the moment.' It's giving great minds think alike.' It's giving I immediately changed into a green dress because she looked so good in it,'” Kelsea said. “It's giving ‘don't you dare do a “who wore it better” or put [it] side by side.’ It's rude.”

Since she changed into a green dress early on, not everybody got to see Kelsea's all-blue look — but she posted TikTok video of herself in her first outfit, allowing for “a little commotion for the dress.”

Kelsea kept the girl power energy going throughout the 2022 CMAs, hopping onstage with Carly Pearce and Kelly Clarkson for a fun performance of “You're Drunk, Go Home,” a collab that appears on Kelsea's fall 2022 Subject to Change album.
