Philadelphia shooting leaves 9 injured outside bar

At least nine people were injured in a mass shooting in Philadelphia after multiple gunmen fired at least 40 shots at a crowd gathered on a sidewalk outside a bar late Saturday night, authorities said. The assailants fled the scene in the Kensington section of the city in a vehicle and remained at large. Authorities said that seven of the victims were in stable condition and two were critical.

Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said the shooting unfolded around 10:45 p.m.  A group of people were on the sidewalk outside the bar when multiple gunmen exited a black vehicle sitting in the middle of East Allegheny Avenue, near Kensington Avenue, and opened fire on the crowd without warning.  Stanford said investigators don’t yet know who was targeted or a motive for the attack, saying: “At this point in time, it just looks like these individuals may have spotted someone they wanted to shoot at, exited the vehicle and just began firing.”  He added that the shooting occurred despite a heavy police presence already in the area, and that officers heard the gunfire and rushed to help the men and women injured as the shooters ran back to the dark vehicle and fled. He said investigators recovered at least 40 pieces of ballistic evidence from the scene and plan to comb through surveillance video from businesses in the area in hopes of identifying the assailants.

Package with ‘suspicious white powder’ sent to Kari Lake’s campaign headquarters

A package containing a “suspicious white powder” was sent to Arizona GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake’s campaign headquarters in Phoenix early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to an address where Lake’s campaign office is located and found suspicious items inside the mail. The items were collected and the area was secured, police added. Police and fire officials in Phoenix said that a hazardous materials team and law enforcement responded around 2 a.m. and that there were no reports of injuries or illnesses.

Said campaign spokesman Colton Duncan: “It was one of two envelopes that were confiscated by law enforcement and sent to professionals at Quantico for examination, and we are awaiting details. The staff member is currently under medical supervision.”

Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs added, “the reported incident at Kari Lake’s campaign office is incredibly concerning and I am thankful that she and her staff were not harmed. Political violence, threats, or intimidation have no place in our democracy. I strongly condemn this threatening behavior directed at Lake and her staff.”

The 53 year old Lake is a former television news anchor for KSAZ-TV who is running as the Republican candidate for governor of Arizona against Hobbs, the Democratic candidate.  The race between Hobbs and Lake is one of the most closely watched gubernatorial contests in the country.

Darius Rucker thinks Peyton Manning is a great addition as CMA Awards co-host: “He's hilarious”

Darius Rucker is a big fan of the CMA Awards’ hosting lineup this year. With Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning at the helm of the awards show, the country superstar (and former CMA Awards co-host) thinks it's sure to be an incredible night.

“Love it. Peyton's hilarious,” the singer says of the decision to add the Pro Football Hall of Famer to the bill.

“He's one of my best buddies, and he's hilarious,” Darius goes on to say. “I think him and Luke are gonna be great at it. I mean, [the script writers for the show] must be in heaven writing that — it's gonna be awesome.”

Darius and Peyton have had plenty of chances to get to know each other over the years — they're both huge sports fans, and they both attended Brad Paisley's all-star Zoom drinking parties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And now they've got a couple more things in common, since not only have they both stepped into the hosting gig at the CMAs, but they're both one half of all-star hosting duos.

Darius’ hosting partner was Reba McEntire, who shared those duties with him at the 2020 show. Darius says he came out of that experience admiring Reba more than ever before — and he was already a huge fan of hers to begin with.

“Reba has been nothing but awesome to me since I've known her,” he says. “Since I came to Nashville, she's been one of my champions, and also, when we did the CMAs together, I've never seen anybody more giving than she was when we did that.”

Most recently, Darius teamed up with Reba as a guest star on ABC's Big Sky, which features Reba as a series regular this season.

Darius Rucker reveals forthcoming album ‘Carolyn’s Boy’

Darius Rucker announced he will release a new album in 2023 called Carolyn’s Boy in honor of his late mother. The album cover art is a portrait of Carolyn.

Rucker said during an interview with the Today Show‘s Craig Melvin:  “I wanted to name the record Carolyn’s Boy because Mom never got to see any of my success. She died before any of this happened, so it’s just another homage to the greatest woman I’ve ever known.” When asked why he wanted to put this album out now, Rucker said: “Years ago, I wasn’t really sure what my place in country music was and I was trying to find it. Now I have found it—I know—and I think it’s time to give that record.”

Carolyn’s Boy will be the follow-up to Rucker’s 2017 project When Was the Last Time, which included hits “If I Told You” and “For the First Time.”  Rucker’s recent releases “Same Beer Different Problem” and “Ol’ Church Hymn” (featuring Chapel Hart), will also be included on the upcoming LP.

Maren Morris shares 7 reimagined songs in ‘Humble Quest: In Rare Form’ short film

Maren Morris revealed she has expanded her latest full-length project, Humble Quest, with the debut of Humble Quest: In Rare Form, a short film with seven reimagined tracks from the album Maren released earlier this year.

Morris shared: “This came as an idea to me near the end of my tour when my band and I had worked so hard every show to find new moments to make each performance magical and unique. We were able to reimagine the songs of Humble Quest in this very stripped, beautiful form at sunset on a hill in North Carolina. No lighting, no bells and whistles, just Mother Nature, music and friendship. Oh, and some pretty good gin & tonics.”

Morris released Humble Quest in March, featuring 11 tracks including the autobiographical “Circles Around This Town,” as well as “Background Music,” “Nervous,” “I Can’t Love You Anymore” and “Hummingbird,” the song Morris wrote for her now 2-year-old son Hayes on the day she found out she was pregnant.

'Carolyn's Boy': Darius Rucker announces a new album, with a title that honors his mom

Darius Rucker has announced plans for a new studio album and elaborated a little bit on the special meaning behind the music.

Called Carolyn's Boy, the project puts a spotlight on the singer's late mother, Carolyn. “At the end of the day, I'm really still just Carolyn's boy,” Darius explains, debuting the cover art for his project — a black-and-white portrait of his mom.

Darius shared the news in an interview on TODAY and also explained why planning a tribute to his mother was so important to him.

“I wanted to name the record Carolyn's Boy because Mom never got to see any of my success,” he says. “She died before any of this happened, so it's just another homage to the greatest woman I've ever known.”

The singer has been a part of country music for a while — his 10-year anniversary as an Opry member is coming up — and a musical figure for even longer, as the frontman of rock outfit Hootie & the Blowfish. But Darius says that now is the right time to release this poignant tribute.

“Years ago, I wasn't really sure what my place in country music was, and I was trying to find it. Now I have found it — I know — and I think it's time to give that record.”

Carolyn's Boy will be out in 2023.
