1 dead, at least 16 hurt after SUV crashes into Massachusetts Apple store

A criminal investigation is underway in Massachusetts after a man crashed an SUV into an Apple Store on Monday, killing one person and injuring 16. The crash happened about 10:45 a.m. EST at the Derby Street Shops in Hingham, about 16 miles southeast of downtown Boston.  The deceased victim was identified as Kevin Bradley, 65, of New Jersey, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said that the driver’s vehicle, a dark-colored SUV, drove through a plate glass window at the front of the store and struck several people, pinning some of them against the wall. Said Cruz: “There were people with numerous injuries inside the store. Right now family members are being notified. Needlessly to say, employees working within that store and nearby are visibly shaken. This morning was an unthinkable morning and people are trying to get through it and process what happened. We are very limited as to what we can say at this point.”

Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy said seven fire trucks and 14 ambulances responded to the scene, with victims transported to South Shore and Boston hospitals. Bystanders rendered first aid to some of those injured, said Murphy.

Officials investigating quadruple homicide after hostage situation in Oklahoma

Authorities are investigating after four people were found shot dead and one wounded at a marijuana farm in northwest Oklahoma following a reported hostage situation. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) said in a statement that the agency was investigating what has been described as a quadruple homicide at the request of the Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies received a call around 7:45 p.m. Sunday about a suspected hostage situation unfolding on a 10-acre marijuana farm on North 2760 Road west of Hennessey, about 55 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. Responding officers found four people dead from apparent gunshot wounds and one injured. The surviving victim was taken to a hospital in undisclosed condition, according to a statement from the OSBI.

Kingfisher County Sheriff Dennis Banther said that a warrant was issued late Monday morning for the arrest of a suspect in the quadruple homicide. Banther said the suspect and five victims have ties to the farm, and that the deadly shooting stemmed from an internal dispute and was not a random act of violence.

The suspect and the victims had not been identified as of Monday; and the suspect remained at large as of Monday afternoon.

Elton John and Britney Spears release acoustic version of ‘Hold Me Closer’

Elton John and Britney Spears have released the acoustic version of their hit duet, “Hold Me Closer,” along with a video for the new version of their song.

The music video for ‘Hold Me Closer (Acoustic)’ features Olympic Gold Medalist Nathan Chen ice skating to a routine he choreographed himself.  In 2019, Chen first incorporated John’s songs into his free skate program after his choreographer saw the motion-picture “Rocketman.” Chen, a lifelong fan of Elton John, decided to use his Elton John-inspired program for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where he won the Gold Medal for his performance. Following his Olympic victory, Chen and fellow ice-skating colleagues attended one of John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour performances in Charlotte, North Carolina where Elton surprised him with a surprise congratulatory shout-out from the stage.

Said Chen: “Elton John’s music means something to anybody who’s ever listened to it. ‘Rocket Man’ has always intrigued me — it’s otherworldly, but it’s just as much about our lives on Earth, love and loneliness, dreams and disappointments. In a way, ‘Rocket Man’ captures what my own journey has felt like — and getting to skate to it at the Olympics was one of the most special moments of my life. I couldn’t believe it when I heard Elton thought of me for this video. Elton and Britney created something really beautiful with this version of ‘Hold Me Closer’ — and I’m so honored to be a part of it.”

Maren Morris is “thinking of my LGBTQ+ family” after Colorado Springs nightclub shooting

Maren Morris extended her love, support and thoughts to the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs following a nightclub shooting that claimed the lives of five victims.

On Twitter, Maren shared her devastation at the tragedy, especially in light of the continuing high numbers of mass shootings in the U.S.

“Can't really continue saying my heart breaks for…' when it's never allowed to heal from the last time this happened, and the time before that, and so on,” she wrote. “Thinking of my LGBTQ+ family today.”

According to ABC News, the shooting took place at Club Q in Colorado Springs on Saturday night. A gunman opened fire as soon as he walked into the LGBTQ+ club, killing five people and injuring 25 more. The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich.

Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez has since told reporters at a news conference that the tragedy is being investigated as a hate crime. Police reports also indicate that two unarmed patrons confronted Vasquez and fought with him, saving more lives.

Maren also shared video of a witness to the shooting emotionally sharing his story.

The singer has often voiced her support of the LGBTQ+ community. Earlier this year, after a spat with Jason Aldean's wife Brittany over some transphobic comments Brittany made in an Instagram reel, Maren released a limited-edition line of “Lunatic Country Music Person” tees, a reference to a dig Fox News' Tucker Carlson made at her during that feud. The shirt ultimately raised $500,000 for GLAAD and the Trans Lifeline.
