Dolly Parton and Dionne Warwick to team up on new gospel duet

Music icon Dionne Warwick revealed on The Tamron Hall Show, that she and country music legend Dolly Parton are coming together for a gospel duet. Said Warwick:“She sent me a song that she wanted me to record. And I said, ‘OK, that sounds like a deal.’ And she’s such a sweetheart, I know her. And then she sent me another song, the one that we’re going to be doing as a duet. A gospel song called ‘Peace Like a River.’ She wrote it … I am very excited about this, I really am. I’ve done so many duets over the years, but this one’s gonna be very special.”

Hall then pointed out how Parton originally wrote and recorded the song “I Will Always Love You,” which was later popularized by Warwick’s late niece, Whitney Houston. Houston covered the song for the soundtrack of the 1992 film The Bodyguard and Parton has repeatedly said that the track has become “Whitney’s song.”  Warwick observed of her upcoming collaboration with Parton: “It’s preordained. God’s got a purpose.”

Warwick’s award-winning documentary Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over, premiered on Jan. 1. The film is narrated by Warwick and blends archival footage with personal photographs and newsreels of her career, following the singer’s career from her start singing in gospel groups with family members in New Jersey, to her becoming a pop music sensation after she teamed with the songwriting duo of Burt Bacharach and Hal David.  Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over is streaming on HBO Max.

Bad Bunny gives explanation as to why he threw fan’s phone into the water

Bad Bunny responded to a short video that recently went viral depicting the Puerto Rican rapper grabbing a fan’s phone and throwing it into the water. Bad Bunny wrote in a tweet, as translated from Spanish via Twitter: “The person who comes up to me to say hello, to tell me something, or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect. Those who come to put a phone bastard in my face I will consider it for what it is, a lack of respect and I will treat it likewise.”

In the video in question that’s been circulating on social media, Bad Bunny is shown walking with a group of people, including security, on a path along the water in the Dominican Republic. After an excited female fan walks up to him and holds out her phone to take a selfie the artist, he smiles for the camera before grabbing the phone and tossing it over his shoulder towards the water as the fan gives a shocked reaction.

Bad Bunny recently appeared onscreen as the Wolf assassin in Bullet Train, and will star as the Marvel Comics character El Muerto in an upcoming film from Sony Pictures.

Drama unfolds as Ashley McBryde urges “Brenda Put Your Bra On”

Ashley McBryde‘s latest update from the fictional town of Lindeville has arrived, in the form of her new video, “Brenda Put Your Bra On.”

The tune is the opening track from her Grammy-nominated Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville album and chronicles a domestic disturbance in a trailer park.

“As soon as we recorded this song, we knew we wanted to make a video for it. It's the start of the action in Lindeville,” Ashley explains. “There were a lot of ways we could have shot the video, yet [director] Reid [Long] had the idea to capture all the insanity and drama in one continuous take, which feels very in tune with the spirit of this entire project.”

Caylee Hammack and Pillbox Patti join Ashley on the track, which was produced by Brothers Osborne‘s John Osborne. Sibling TJ also appears on the album, along with Brandy Clark and others.

The Lindeville troupe will come together February 15 and 16 to perform the album at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.

Dolly's got “Peace Like a River” with the legendary Dionne Warwick

Dolly Parton‘s finding “Peace Like a River” with the legendary Dionne Warwick

The pop/R&B icon revealed the collaboration Tuesday on Tamron Hall, teasing the gospel track that Dolly wrote.

“She’s such a sweetheart,” Dionne added of Dolly. “I love her.”

Dionne went on to say the duet is extra special because of Dolly’s connection to her late cousin Whitney Houston, who of course took Dolly’s signature “I Will Always Love You” to new heights with her 1992 recording.

“It’s preordained. God’s got a purpose,” Dionne predicted of the new song.

So far, we don’t know when we’ll be able to hear “Peace Like a River.” Dolly’s also busy working on her rock album, following her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year.

Suspect in University of Idaho killings planning to waive extradition to return to Idaho

The attorney for Bryan Kohberger — the suspect in the fatal stabbings of four University of Idaho students — plans to waive extradition at a hearing on Tuesday. Jason LaBar, the chief public defender for Monroe County, Pennsylvania (where Kohberger was arrested) said that his client planned to waive extradition to expedite his return to Idaho. According to a statement LaBar released Sunday on their behalf, Kohberger’s family said “there are no words that can adequately express the sadness we feel.”

University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and her boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, 20, were stabbed to death in an off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho back in November 2022. Kohberger was arrested on Friday in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains after authorities had tracked him down. Police in Moscow, Idaho had been looking for a white Elantra as a possible piece of evidence; and a Hyundai Elantra was removed from Kohberger’s home in Pennsylvania on Friday. Moscow Police Chief James Fry said at a press conference Friday: “These murders have shaken our community and no arrest will ever bring back these young students. However, we do believe justice will be found through the criminal process.”

Latah County prosecutor Bill Thompson said that Kohberger, a graduate student at Washington State University, was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and felony burglary.
