Darius does Rihanna: 'Wakanda Forever' cover arrives Friday

Darius Rucker scored a Diamond-certified hit with his 2013 cover of Old Crow Medicine Show‘s “Wagon Wheel.” Could he now do the same with a Rihanna song?

“Lift me up/ Hold me down/ Keep me close/ Safe and sound,” he sings in a TikTok clip of her song from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

“I love this movie. I love this song. Had to do it!! Should I release it?” he added.

It seems the public has spoken, as the Hootie & the Blowfish frontman confirmed on Twitter: “New music. That you may already know. Friday.”

While Darius has announced his next album, Carolyn’s Boy, should arrive soon, it’s unclear whether the Wakanda tune is part of it.

Of course, Rihanna’s set to play the halftime show at Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Sam Hunt's headed to “Walmart” for new song

Sam Hunt‘s serving up another slice of rural heartbreak with his new track, which arrives Thursday night.

“I saw your mama at Walmart with your little girl,” he sings in a social snippet of the song named after the discount mecca.

“She had your eyes and your smile/ She had your nose and your lips,” the lyrics continue. “Somewhere in our little small town/ Small talk girl/ Lost in the grocery aisle/ Holding a bag of some chips/ I realized that everything happens for a reason/ Losing your love ain’t the end of the world.”

Sam shares one clip on Twitter. If you want to hear a little more, check out the alternate on Instagram.

“Walmart” seems to continue with the back-to-his-roots themes in Sam’s hit “Water Under the Bridge” and the track “Start Nowhere,” which he released in November.

Late last year, Hunt told ABC Audio he has quite a collection of tunes he wrote during the pandemic, but said he wasn’t sure if he’ll put them together as an album, preferring instead to release them one by one as they’re ready. His last collection was 2020’s SOUTHSIDE, which came six years after his debut, Montevallo.

Dolly records a “dark duet” with REO Speedwagon's Kevin Cronin

REO Speedwagon's Kevin Cronin is one of the rockers set to appear on Dolly Parton's upcoming rock album, Rock Star, and he's spilled the tea on the track they've recorded together.

While chatting with the Totally 80s podcast, Cronin revealed he and Dolly recorded a cover of the band's classic “Keep On Loving You,” although he notes their version is a “dark duet.”

In the song, Cronin sings about his woman’s infidelity and his decision to stay with her, but says he realized, “I kind of portrayed myself as more of the good guy than perhaps I was.”

“Perhaps it takes more than one snake in the grass, all coiled up and hissing,' to tango – if you catch my drift. That’s the reality of the song, you know?” he explains. “So, it gave me the idea that Dolly could sing the first verse, and in the first verse, I’m cheating on her. But then I take the second verse, and in the second verse, I go, Oh yeah? Well, I know all about those men!'”

The two then come together and sing the chorus in harmony, but he notes, “It just slays me, because that’s how the song was meant to be performed; I just didn’t realize it until Dolly called me the other day. So that’s how we’re doing it, and I’m just so stoked.”

Hardcore fans probably already know Cronin’s been on Dolly’s radar for some time: she covered the band’s “Time for Me to Fly” as the opening track on 1989’s White Limozeen.
