Darius Rucker's Riverfront Revival returns to Charleston this fall

You can think of Darius Rucker as the evangelist, and he’s bringing his revival to his beloved hometown of Charleston for the second year in a row.

The first tickets are on sale now for Darius’ Riverfront Revival, which will take place October 7 and 8 at Riverfront Park in North Charleston, South Carolina.

“Charleston's hometown spirit was on full display last year and showed us what a local music festival meant to this community,” Darius says. “We know 2023 is going to be an even greater experience for fans and we can't wait to see you there!”

The only catch to buying your tickets this early is that you don’t know the lineup yet, though the event promises the “best of country and rock, including eagerly anticipated new music from Rucker himself.” Darius’ new record, Carolyn’s Boy, named for his late mother, is due sometime this year.

2023 State of the Union: President Biden urges Democrats and Republics to work together

While dlivering his second State of the Union address Tuesday night from the U.S. Capitol, President Biden called for political unity — and challenged Congress to pass immigration reform, protect abortion rights, ban assault weapons, and help rebuild the middle class.

Entering the House chamber to applause and a standing ovation from both Republicans and Democrats, Biden began his address by recognizing new House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Said Biden: “I start tonight by congratulating the members of the 118th Congress and the new Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy. Mr. Speaker, I look forward to working together.”

During his 80-minute address, Biden touted economic accomplishments during his time as President, despite acknowledging record inflation: “As I stand here tonight, we have created a record 12 million new jobs, more jobs created in two years than any president has ever created in four years,” Biden said, adding, “Here at home, gas prices are down $1.50 a gallon since their peak. Food inflation is coming down. Inflation has fallen every month for the last six months while take-home pay has gone up.”

Biden stressed that “unity” is required between Democrats and Republicans to “finish the job”: “To restore the soul of the nation. To rebuild the backbone of America, the middle class. To unite the country. We’ve been sent here to finish the job. To build an economy from the bottom up and the middle out, not from the top down. Because when the middle class does well, the poor have a ladder up and the wealthy still do very well. We all do well.”

First lady Jill Biden invited multiple guests to Tuesday’s speech, including the Ambassador of Ukraine Oksana Markarova, and RowVaughn and Rodney Wells, parents of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols, the Black man who died last month after he was beaten by a group of Memphis police officers during a traffic stop. Additional guests included Paul Pelosi, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was the victim of a politically motivated attack in October, and Brandon Tsay who disarmed a shooting suspect in the Monterey Park, Calif., mass shooting this past month.

Florida mass shooting suspect killed by police during car chase

Authorities in Florida confirmed that the suspect in a Florida mass shooting is dead after being shot and crashing his car after a police chase. Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor said that officers had sought to arrest 21-year-old Alex Greene on Monday for an outstanding burglary warrant, but as officers went to arrest Greene, he fled.

Authorities said Greene ran into a restaurant and then proceeded to carjack another woman’s vehicle; however when Lakeland police officers told Greene to get out of the car, Greene drove the vehicle toward the officer. The officer then shot Greene, whose swerved into oncoming traffic before crashing. Greene was declared dead after being transported to the hospital.

Police suspect that Greene was one of four gunmen in a sedan that opened fire on both sides of a street in “a challenged neighborhood” of Lakeland, Fla., on Jan. 30, injuring at least 10 people. Police Chief Taylor said “we are very confident he was, in fact, involved, to what extent we don’t know yet.” The victims were described as men between the ages of 20 and 35.

For Walker Hayes, staying up late is part of that “Y'all Life,” y'all

For Walker Hayes, his wife, Laney, and their six kids, staying up late is just part of livin’ that “Y’all Life,” y’all.

“My family, man, we have the most random schedule,” he tells ABC Audio. “I’ve never met another family like us. But my wife and kids and I, we don’t go to bed till 2 or 3.”

“I mean, we accomplish so much at night,” he continues. “You know, we’ll watch a show or something together, but we’ll spend some time together, you know, reading and stuff like that. And we’ll sing at night. We’ll play games and stuff. We have so much quality time.”

So what time does the Hayes family usually arise?

“I usually am out of bed by 9:00, 9:30,” Walker reveals during an early-morning interview. “But my kids, man, I’m the only one up for the next few hours.”

Of course, Walker’s unusual schedule is helped by the fact that his kids have always been homeschooled and are most often on the road with him.

Walker next hits the road March 2 when he plays the Plant City, Florida, Strawberry Festival.

Dierks Bentley and Ashley McBryde team up for ‘Cowboy Boots’

Dierks Bentley has recruited Ashley McBryde for his new track “Cowboy Boots,” the latest track off Dierks’ upcoming tenth studio album Gravel & Gold.

The duo have also shared a performance video of “Cowboy Boots,” filmed at the famous downtown Nashville club Robert’s Western World, on Lower Broadway. The new song is written by Bentley with Casey Brown, Jordan Minton, and Hunter Phelps, and Bentley says of the track: “When I first really fell in love with country music, Jim Beam and cowboy boots came along for the ride. I’ve had a few pair of boots over the years, many requiring duct tape at times. But, they’ve been my consistent and steady companion through this crazy ride. Not only does Ashley have one of the best voices in country music, she also always rocked a pair of boots when we were on tour together last year. I wanted someone that I could authentically sing this song with, and I didn’t have to look any further than stage left. She’s the real deal.”

‘Gravel & Gold’ will be released on February 24; to pre-order, head here.

Watch the first teaser for the remake of ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ starring Jack Harlow

20th Century Studios have shared a ‘first-look’ teaser for the upcoming remake of ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ starring Jack Harlow in his acting debut. Harlow’s casting in the film was announced last March, after his first-ever screen audition. Harlow is an avid basketball superfan, and he was a star player in last year’s NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

Harlow portrays Jeremy alongside Sinqua Walls, who plays the role of Kamal. Their characters embody the roles of Sidney and Billy from the original ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ flick from 1992, starring Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes, respectively. Staying true to the original film’s plot line, the new teaser follows Jeremy and Kamal — avid basketball players who downplay their skills in street matches to hustle others out of their betting money.

Directed by Charles Kidd II and written by ‘Black-ish’ creator Kenya Barris, the ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ remake will stream on Hulu in the US (and Disney+ internationally) starting May 19. You can watch the teaser trailer – here.

Zara Larsson shares her video for ‘Can’t Tame Her’

Zara Larsson is sharing the futuristic-styled music video for her latest single, “Can’t Tame Her.”

Larsson told Billboard about the song: “If you are in the public eye of any sort, I think a lot of people have a perception of who you are and who you should be. People want to put girls in a box of what you should do or not. In the public eye, you have a lot of people telling you what’s wrong or how you should do something differently. I’m out there, I’m very loud and I try to stay true to myself and surround myself with people who care about me, so we can all help each other and protect each other. Really good friends.”

Take a look at the video for Larsson’s “Can’t Tame Her” – here.
