Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne, Jason Isbell, Sheryl Crow to play “Love Rising” LGBTQIA+ benefit in Nashville

Some of country and Americana’s biggest acts are coming together for “Love Rising,” a special benefit concert supporting various LGBTQIA+ organizations.

Presented by Live Nation, the event will take place on March 20 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Artists slated to perform include Maren MorrisBrothers OsborneJason IsbellAmanda ShiresSheryl CrowYolaHayley Williams and Joy Oladokun

This announcement arrives in the wake of Tennessee’s latest enactment of Senate Bill 3 and House Bill 9 – two bills that ban all performances deemed male or female impersonation otherwise known as “drag” from taking place on any public property in the state, as well as in any location where people under 18 could be present. Many consider the bills to be anti-LGBTQIA+.

“SB3/HB9 and SB1/HB1 are clearly targeted attacks on Tennesseans who haven't done anything wrong,” Isbell tells the press. “These bills add up to an attempt to eradicate a valuable part of our community and force good people to live in fear. We can't in good conscience just stand by and let that happen.”

Net proceeds from this benefit will support the Tennessee Equality Project, inclusion tennessee, OUTMemphis and The Tennessee Pride Chamber.

Tickets go on sale today, March 8, at 10 a.m. local time on Ticketmaster.

Person detained in Mexico in connection with kidnapped Americans that left 2 dead, 2 rescued

Update: Tamaulipas, Mexico, Gov. Américo Villarreal confirmed one person has been detained in connection with the kidnapping of 4 Americans in Matamoros. The four were found in a wooden shack, where they were being guarded by a man who was arrested. Villarreal said the captive Americans had been moved around by their captors, and at one point were taken to a medical clinic “to create confusion and avoid efforts to rescue them.”

Mexican authorities confirmed the discovery of the four U.S. citizens missing since their abduction last week in the northern Mexican border city of Matamoros on Friday. Authorities found 2 of the hostages killed and 2 recovered alive. Tamaulipas, Mexico, Gov. Américo Villarreal said that one of the surviving U.S. citizens was wounded and the other was not. Tamaulipas Attorney General Irving Barrios tweeted“Derived from the joint search actions, the four American citizens deprived of their liberty last Friday were found. Unfortunately, two dead. Investigation and intelligence work continue to capture those responsible. Details will be given later.”

The FBI had reported Sunday that it was searching with Mexican authorities for the missing Americans, who had been kidnapped Friday. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that shortly after entering Mexico, the four Americans were caught in the crossfire of rival cartel groups. A video showed them being loaded into the back of a pickup truck by gunmen. The U.S. embassy in Mexico said that gunmen shot into a vehicle containing the four Americans and subsequently “herded them into another vehicle and fled the scene with them. U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar said a Mexican bystander was also killed.

The four Americans who were kidnapped were identified as Latavia “Tay” McGee, Shaeed Woodard, Eric James Williams and Zindell Brown. A relative said Monday that they had traveled together from South Carolina so one of them could get a tummy tuck from a Matamoros doctor.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price confirmed during a press briefing that both survivors had been returned to the U.S. by Tuesday afternoon, and 0fficials were still “in the process of working to repatriate the remains” of the two victims who were killed.  Price also told reporters: “The investigation is in its earliest days. I understand we may have more to share from the FBI at the appropriate time.”

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and wife to visit White House for official state visit

The White House announced Tuesday that South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and first lady Kim Keon Hee will travel to Washington for an official state visit on April 26. Yoon was elected president of South Korea last May. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said: “The upcoming visit celebrates the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-ROK alliance, which is critical to advancing peace, stability, and prosperity for our two countries, the Indo-Pacific, and around the world. President Biden and President Yoon will highlight the importance and enduring strength of the ironclad U.S.-ROK alliance as well as the United States’ unwavering commitment to the ROK. The presidents will discuss our shared resolve to deepen and broaden our political, economic, security and people-to-people ties.” (the Republic of Korea is the official name of South Korea).

The presidents have met multiple times the past year, including during visits to Cambodia and the United Nations General Assembly in New York.  The White House said the visit from President Yoon Suk-yeol and first lady Kim Keon Hee will include a state dinner. White House state visits traditionally includes formal ceremonies, bilateral meetings and a black-tie dinner.

On Monday, South Korea announced plans to compensate victims of Japanese wartime forced labor, settling a bitter dispute between two key U.S. allies. The U.S. and South Korea also both announced they will be reviving a massive springtime joint military exercise this month, in response to growing missile and nuclear threats from North Korea.  The two countries are returning to a scale not seen in five years.

Is Lainey Wilson “borderline psycho?” No, she's just got a “Heart Like a Truck”

If you talk to Lainey Wilson, you’ll likely realize that “Heart Like a Truck” is a lot more than just her latest hit.

It reflects the steely determination that kept the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year going when it looked like she’d never make it.

“There’s definitely been times where I probably should have given up. I mean, common sense would tell you to take it to the house and be done,” she laughs. “I guess I was a little borderline psycho. I don’t really know.”

“But I hope people can see that, you know, first of all, nothing happens overnight,” she tells ABC Audio. “The squeaky wheel gets the grease at the end of the day. Like, if it’s in your heart and in your soul, then stick it out.”

As Lainey uses “Heart Like a Truck” to inspire others, she also remembers how her own strong will played out in her career.

“Every time somebody told me no, I never actually took it as a no,” she confesses. “I always took it as, well, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to even get in front of them in the first place if it was really a no.”

“It’s a yes, they just don’t know it’s a yes yet,” she says, laughing again.

This week, Lainey confirmed she’ll head out with her “wait in the truck” partner HARDY on the fall leg of his the mockingbird & THE CROW tour.
