FBI says 4 Americans missing after they were kidnapped in Mexican border city

The FBI said that four U.S. citizens have been kidnapped after gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in the northern Mexico border city of Matamoros. The four Amricans had entered Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas, on Friday and were travelling in a white minivan with North Carolina license plates. U.S. officials also confirmed on Monday that a Mexican citizen was killed in the incident.

Matamoros is home to warring factions of the Gulf drug cartel, and the U.S. Consulate issued an alert about shootouts there on Friday were so bad that local authorities warned people to shelter in place. The alert reminded U.S. citizens that this part of Mexico is a “Level 4: Do Not Travel,” which is the highest-level warning in the U.S. State Department’s travel advisory system.

The FBI San Antonio Division office said in a statement Sunday that the vehicle came under fire shortly after it entered Mexico: “All four Americans were placed in a vehicle and taken from the scene by armed men. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for the return of the victims and the arrest of the culprits.” A post on Twitter appears to show the moment they were kidnapped, with one woman, walking on her own, forced into a white pickup truck. Men armed with guns and wearing bulletproof vests are then seen dragging one person after another into the vehicle. The video posted online appears to show some of them may be injured, but their conditions of the four remain unknown.

On Monday, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar said in a statement that the Americans were kidnapped at gunpoint and that an “innocent” Mexican citizen died in the attack. He said various U.S. justice agencies were working with their Mexican counterparts to recover the missing U.S. citizens, but did not provide further details.  Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Monday that the Americans had crossed the border to buy medicine and ended up caught in the crossfire between two armed groups.

It's not all “butterflies and roses” for TR & Lauren

As the force behind songs like “Die a Happy Man,” it’s not like Thomas Rhett has kept his emotions all that close to the vest.

But with his new album, the “Angels Don’t Always Have Wings” hitmaker is being more vulnerable than ever.

“I think on this record, I just didn’t want to hold back on what I feel on a daily basis,” TR says. “The very first track on the record is called ‘The Hill.’ It’s the only song that I didn’t write on this album.”

“And when I heard it,” he continues, “I just broke down in tears. I was like, ‘Holy crap, this is really sad.’ And I’m a sucker for a sad song, but it’s also extremely redemptive.”

Combined with “Angels” and the title track, “Where We Started,” it made TR want to show a whole new side of himself.

“I think I’m known as like the love song guy, and it’s always butterflies and roses, and ‘we don’t have any problems’ and all this kind of stuff,” he reflects. “And after my wife’s book was released and it kind of got into the details of just our marriage and … the ups and downs that we’ve been on, it was just like, ‘Well, man, like, why not talk about those real emotions that I experience in my marriage – and a lot of people experience in their marriage – and just kind of put it out there?'”

Lauren Akins‘ book, Live in Love: Growing Together Through Life’s Changes, came out in May 2021 and went on to become a New York Times best seller.

“Angels” is Thomas’ latest top 30 hit.

Justin Moore shares title track to new album “Stray Dog”

Justin Moore is sharing the title track to his new album ‘Stray Dog’ due out on May 5. The eight-track project includes his duet with Priscilla Block “You, Me, and Whiskey,” as well as a collaboration with Riley Green on “Everybody Get Along.”  ‘Stray Dog’ also includes the song “With A Woman You Love,” written about Moore’s wife, Kate, whom he wed in 2007.

Says Moore of the new LP: “A long time ago I decided I wasn’t going to play games or pursue things that didn’t make me happy. Perhaps that’s made me a bit of an outsider in this industry, but it’s also what allows me to go to bed each night feeling good about what I’m doing.”

Moore co-wrote the song ‘Stray Dog’ with Paul DiGiovanni, Randy Montana and Jeremy Stover. Said Moore: “It’s a really personal, autobiographical song. I’ve never just gone along with the crowd. I’ve always tried to follow my heart and let the chips fall where they may, and I’m really proud of that.”

Take a listen to the fan-favorite single from Luke Combs, ‘Joe’

Luke Combs has officially released the fan-favorite single “Joe” off his forthcoming Gettin’ Old. Combs dedicates the ballad to those who have struggled with alcoholism and those who are sober.

Says Combs of the track: “There have been some folks in my family that have struggled with alcoholism and addiction through the years, l’ve got buddies who live a sober lifestyle, and I’m sure y’all know someone who has struggled with these type of things, or maybe you, yourself do. This song (‘Joe’) is really important to me for that reason. Our genre has so many songs about drinking and partying, hell, I’m probably one of the worst culprits of it. There’s nothing wrong with that I don’t think, but sometimes I wonder what someone in the crowd who doesn’t drink, or struggles with addiction is thinking or feeling when there’s thousands of people around them screaming ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ or ‘1, 2 Many.’ I’ve always wanted a song for those people to have for themselves. To have a song they can sing at the top of their lungs and feel like they’re not forgotten. When Erik Dylan sent me the work tape of this a few years back, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. So if you’re reading this and this song speaks to you, I hope you love it. This one’s for you.”

Combs’ LP Gettin’ Old will be released on March 24th, and features 18 new songs. He will also be kicking-off his massive World Tour this March with 16 North American stadium shows including Arlington, TX’s AT&T Stadium; Nashville’s Nissan Stadium; and Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium. In total, the tour is comprised of 39 shows across three continents and 16 countries, with shows in Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, France and Belgium. The tour is the largest ever for a country artist.

Kelsea Ballerini makes her Saturday Night Live debut

Kelsea Ballerini made her Saturday Night Live debut on March 4, performing two songs off her newest EP.

The country-pop star’s appearance on the show featured performances of “Blindsided” and “Penthouse”: The former featured Kelsea in a black Versace catsuit delivering the haunting midtempo tune, while the latter was more pensive as Kelsea, donning a silky white Valentino gown, reflected on the illusions of her past marriage.

“It was such a big moment,” Kelsea said of her “Blindsided” performance, which included a shadow figure of herself. “We wanted to add an element that made the song and the performance more. When we talked about what the song was about, all the pieces of doubt and realizing what was going on, the shadow seemed to be the right thing.”

Of her tender “Penthouse” delivery, Kelsea added, “The concept of a penthouse seems so glamorous, but it stopped feeling that way. I lost track of what was good in how I got there … I realized what you think isn't always what there actually is.”

Besides her SNL singing spots, Kelsea also traded dialogue and jokes with host Travis Kelce and cast member Heidi Gardner

Kelsea’s newest EP, Rolling Up the Welcome Mat?, is out now.
