“Thank God” Kane Brown found the perfect song to sing with his “secret weapon”

Kane Brown has collaborated with a number of artists since he first came on the scene, including KhalidMarshmelloNellyblackbear and Swae Lee. But his most recent collaborator means the most to him – because she’s his significant other.

Kane’s latest hit is a duet with his wife, Katelyn Brown, called “Thank God.” But this isn’t a case of someone just randomly putting their spouse on a song: Before the two married, Katelyn had her own music career. She was managed by Johnny Wright – who’d worked with Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC – and released several singles. She also graduated from Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music.

“Me and Kate have been trying to release a song for like five years now,” Kane says. “And we kept getting songs coming in. We thought that, y’know, each of them was the song for us but it never felt right.”

Finally, Kane says, “My buddy Josh [Hoge], he sent me a song called ‘Thank God,’ and I listened to it and I fell in love with it. And then kept listening to it and kept listening to it. I was like, ‘This could be a duet.’ So I asked Kate, and Kate fell in love with the song and now it's one of my favorite songs.”

Katelyn and Kane sang the song onstage for the first time late last year, and they’ll perform it on TV together on April 2 at the CMT Music Awards, which Kane is co-hosting with Kelsea Ballerini.

A few days ago, Kane told People magazine of Katelyn, “I keep telling everybody she’s my secret weapon.”

Kane and Katelyn will celebrate their fourth anniversary in October. They have two daughters, Kingsley and Kodi.

Conservative Supreme Court justices skeptical of Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan

Conservative Supreme Court justices seemed skeptical about the legality of President Joe Biden’s student loan debt relief plan — announced by Biden in August and originally scheduled to take effect last fall. The program would allow eligible borrowers to cancel up to $20,000 in debt, but has been blocked since the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a temporary hold in October. Questions remain as to whether the challengers have legal standing to sue, while there are also doubts it will ever go into effect.

Biden’s program would cancel up to $10,000 in debt for borrowers earning less than $125,000 a year (or couples who file taxes jointly and earn less than $250,000 annually). Pell Grant recipients, who are the majority of borrowers, would be eligible for an additional $10,000 in debt relief. The overall program could help more than 40 million borrowers, the administration has said.

The high court heard arguments in two cases on Tuesday, one brought by six states, and the other brought by two people, Myra Brown and Alexander Taylor, who hold student loan debt. The challengers argue that the administration’s proposal violates the Constitution and federal law, partly because it circumvents Congress, which they said has the sole power to create laws related to student loan forgiveness.

Of the six conservative justices, only Justice Amy Coney Barrett repeatedly probed whether challengers had legal standing. Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh, two justices the Biden administration may have been targeting as potential votes against standing, focused their questions on the major questions doctrine. That could indicate they believe the challengers have standing. The law in question, the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act, or HEROES Act, states that the government can provide relief to recipients of student loans when there is a “national emergency,” allowing the government to take action to ensure people are not in “a worse position financially” as a result of the emergency. The challengers say the language in the HEROES Act is not specific enough to authorize a proposal as broad as Biden’s plan.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the cases by the end of June.

President Biden nominates Julie Su as next labor secretary

President Biden will nominate the current deputy, Julie Su, as his next labor secretary, replacing the departing incumbent, former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. Walsh announced his intention to leave the administration earlier this month to lead the National Hockey League Players’ Association. Su will serve as the acting secretary until the Senate acts on her nomination.

Su is a former California official civil rights attorney and former head of California’s labor department, and was central to negotiations between labor and freight rail companies last year, working to avert a strike. If confirmed by the Senate, Su would also be the first Asian-American in the Biden administration to serve in the Cabinet at the secretary level.

President Biden said in a statement that Su is a “champion for workers… Julie is a tested and experienced leader, who will continue to build a stronger, more resilient, and more inclusive economy that provides Americans a fair return for their work and an equal chance to get ahead. She helped avert a national rail shutdown, improved access to good jobs free from discrimination through my Good Jobs Initiative, and is ensuring that the jobs we create in critical sectors like semiconductor manufacturing, broadband and healthcare are good-paying, stable and accessible jobs for all.”

Biden had been under pressure from the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and other Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) advocates to select Su to head the department. This administration was the first in more than two decades to not have a Cabinet secretary of AAPI descent. If confirmed, Su would also expand the majority of women serving in the president’s Cabinet.

Luke Combs reveals “Going, Going, Gone” was a hint about 'Gettin' Old'

It’s an interesting time for Luke Combs: As “Going, Going, Gone” reaches the top of the country chart, he’s experiencing one of the happiest periods of his life.

In 2020, the North Carolina native married his wife, Nicole, and in June of last year his son, Tex, was born.

Luke believes the contrast between his sad song on the radio and the sweet life at home says something about the power of a song.

“I can be in this amazing place, and then come up with this guitar riff and have this song title that my co-writer goes … ‘I get that. I’m there right now,'” Luke reflects. “And you just try to bottle that magic while you have it, and know … they’re writing from a place of being in that moment.”

“And you could be writing for someone who, you know, at some point will be in that moment. … So I think that’s the super cool thing about it,” he adds.

Luke reveals “Going, Going, Gone” was actually a hint that his current album would have a continuation.

“That’s the last track on Growin’ Up. And the point of that was to go, ‘OK, well, this is where we’re going,'” he explains. “Like, I didn’t announce when Growin’ Up came out that there was gonna be a second part to this thing.”

“But I wanted people to go, ‘You know, this track 12, I really like that thing. It’s this new sound. It’s different, it’s something else, but I still love it and I still can relate to it,'” he continues. “And I wanted to let people know that that’s kind of where this was going, right, like leading into this next album.”

The other part, Growin’ Old, is set to arrive March 24.

Brad Paisley’s new song ‘Same Here’ features Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Brad Paisley is sharing his new song, “Same Here,” from his forthcoming new album, Son of The Mountains. The song features Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and is released as a remembrance of the one-year anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine. Paisley was recently named an ambassador for UNITED24, and proceeds from “Same Here” will go to their Rebuild Ukraine program, launched by President Zelenskyy, as the main venue for collecting charitable donations to rebuild and restore homes damaged by the current war.

Paisley shared: “‘Same Here’ with President Zelenskyy is one of the pieces of this album that represents so much a part of my journey from West Virginia to now. One of the prevailing themes on this album is freedom. That’s something I truly believe in, and think is our most precious gift as Americans. The song is grounded in observing life in the United States, then to people from other countries who speak different languages and to one across the ocean that’s at war. We start to realize how similar we all are.”

Zelenskyy says of the song: “We speak different languages in our life, yes … But I think we appreciate the same things – children, freedom, our flag, our soldiers, our people, the biggest treasure we have. And friends. And we’re proud of our army who defends our freedom and will defend our lives. We’re fighting for our children, our parents to defend our houses and families …There is no distance between our countries in such values … That is very important to see that they are really in many, in many things, really the same.”

Paisley says of his upcoming LP: “Son of The Mountains is a collection of songs that I’ve been writing and working on for a while now. The music encompasses a lot of big themes and perspectives from a kid that came from a small town in West Virginia after having seen a bit of the world. The record doesn’t shy away from reflection, real life and situations that are going on and what I think country music is- which is truth.”

Niall Horan shares new video for ‘Heaven’

Niall Horan has dropped the cinematic music video for his new single “Heaven,” co-written by Horan with John Ryan and Joel Little (who also produced), and Tobias Jesso Jr. “Heaven” is Horan’s first solo material in nearly three years.

The visual for “Heaven” was shot in Los Angeles by director Dylan Knight. Shares Horan: “One thing I’ve learned over the years is that society loves to pressure us into reaching certain milestones by a certain age. Whether that’s getting married or anything else that really should be based on our own instincts. As I’ve gotten older I’ve tried to let go of those expectations and just follow my heart. The chorus of this song is saying that what I have in my life currently is amazing. So it would be crazy to ruin that by giving into outside pressures.”

Horan’s third solo album, The Show, will be released on June 9th; five vinyl variants of the album (each with their own distinct disc color, cover and back cover), as well as a collector’s edition box set, are available via Horan’s webstore.

Take a look at the video for “Heaven” – here.
