Jackson Dean's 'Live At the Ryman' was recorded in one take

Jackson Dean has dropped his first live record, Live At the Ryman.

Out now, the eight-track album features the chart-topper “Don’t Come Lookin’,” as well as two new songs, “Heavens To Betsy” and “1971.”

“Heavens To Betsy” has been a “crowd favorite” at Jackson’s live shows, as he tells ABC Audio, while “1971” is one Jackson personally wanted to be included.

“There’s no, like, ‘this story is about blah.’ It’s just a whole bunch of stuff that makes sense together that feels good, and you kind of get the gist of what’s happening,” Jackson says of “1971,” which he wrote when he was either 16 or 17 years old.

“It’s just straight-up American rock,” Jackson adds. “But we put that on there because I wanted it. It was worthy of existence.”

Perhaps unbeknownst to fans, Jackson wasn’t planning to release a full-fledged live LP. The initial intention was to tag “a couple of songs” to his 2022 debut album, Greenbroke. But the CEO of Big Machine Records, Scott Borchetta, brought up the idea, which Jackson liked and swiftly agreed to.

The end product? A collection of eight songs, all recorded in one take.

“It was just, like, ‘One take. Here you go. Coming at you,'” Jackson reveals. “They’re all one takes, which is awesome. And that’s why they’re fast. Because it’s pure adrenaline.”

Live At the Ryman is available wherever you listen to music.

The Weeknd announces new project “The Idol Vol. 1”

The Weeknd has announced ‘The Idol Vol. 1,’ teasing the new project with a clip of himself in the studio on social media.  The Weeknd tweeted: “THE IDOL VOL. 1 💿 coming soon (double fantasy & jealous guy just a taste).”

The announcement comes after The Weeknd recently teased working on new music with Future during a live stream on Instagram. The two previously collaborated on “Low Life” from Future’s project, EVOL, as well as “All I Know” off of The Weeknd’s album, Starboy.

‘The Idol Vol. 1’ marks The Weeknd’s first project since 2022’s critically acclaimed Dawn FM.  The announcement comes as HBO prepares to release The Weeknd’s new series of the same name, The Idol, at some point this year. The show has dealt with numerous behind-the-scenes issues, which HBO later addressed in a statement. “The creators and producers of The Idol have been working hard to create one of HBO’s most exciting and provocative original programs. The initial approach on the show and production of the early episodes, unfortunately, did not meet HBO standards so we chose to make a change. Throughout the process, the creative team has been committed to creating a safe, collaborative, and mutually respectful working environment.”

It's “Tails I Lose” for Parker McCollum

Parker McCollum melds neo-traditional instrumentation and forlorn lyrics on his new song, “Tails I Lose.”

Penned by Parker alongside Wade BowenBrad Warren and Brett Warren, the song finds a heartbroken man pining for the return of his old flame. The hook of the song? “Heads you win, tails I lose.”

“We hadn't heard the phrase ‘heads you win, tails I lose’ in a country song before,” shares Parker, “so we started writing that idea over a melody and dropping all kinds of imagery about breakups. When we got in the studio, Rob McNelley played that guitar sound and I was like, ‘That's it.’ The guitar lick is so good, it sets the song up and does it justice. This song is just hardcore country. I love it and hope the fans do too.”

“Tails I Lose” is the latest release from Parker’s upcoming new album, Never Enough. Arriving on May 12, the record features his current single, “Handle on You,” which is approaching the top of the country charts.
