United States to send nuclear-armed submarines to dock in South Korea for first time

President Joe Biden met with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol at the White House on Wednesday, announcing that he would have nuclear-armed submarines dock in South Korea for the first time in more than 40 years.  According to White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan, Yoon’s visit comes “at a critical moment as North Korea continues to develop its nuclear and missile capabilities.”

Biden and Yoon spoke in the Rose Garden, where Biden pledged to uphold the country’s nuclear defense treaty with South Korea in the face of threats from North Korea.  Said Biden: “Our nuclear defense treaty is ironclad. They are particularly important in the face of DPRK’s increased threats and blatant violations of U.S. sanctions. At the same time we are continuing to seek diplomatic breakthroughs with the DPRK.”

Yoon arrived in Washington on Monday along with South Korean first lady Kim Keon-hee for the six-day visit, which also included a state dinner Wednesday night at the White House, and a Thursday address before Congress, where he will speak on the continued threat posed by North Korea. North Korean President Kim Jung Un has ordered nuclear rocket tests at an unprecedented pace over the past year and recently launched the country’s first solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile, which analysts say could severely challenge missile-defense systems.

In recent months, Yoon’s administration has sought greater input from the U.S. while anticipating the need for a strong nuclear response to North Korea. Yoon’s visit was timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the South Korea-U.S. alliance that emerged in the wake of the 1950-53 Korean War.

Disney sues Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over efforts to ‘weaponize’ government power

The Walt Disney Co. sued Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday, alleging unconstitutional political retaliation against the entertainment giant after it disagreed with Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” legislation. In its lawsuit, Disney said it had no choice but to sue after exhausting other efforts at a resolution, aiming to protect Disney World’s employees, guests and developers “from a relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials.”

The Disney suit said: “A targeted campaign of government retaliation — orchestrated at every level by Governor DeSantis as punishment for Disney’s protected speech — now threatens Disney’s business operations, jeopardizes its economic future, and violates its constitutional rights” The suit added that DeSantis has made it clear that he won’t stop and plans to escalate punitive actions against Disney for expressing political free speech.

Disney’s lawsuit also points out how DeSantis recently declared that he also planned to look at things such as taxes on hotels, tolls on the roads, and developing some of the property Disney owns with more amusements parks. The lawsuit alleges that a newly formed DeSantis-appointed tourist board violated the company’s contract rights, and did so without just compensation or due process. The company is asking the court to declare Florida’s legislative action unlawful.

DeSantis has argued that Disney, which employs roughly 75,000 people in the Florida, had been operating with unfair advantages for decades. DeSantis spokesman Jeremy Redfern said Wednesday on Twitter:  “We are unaware of any legal right that a company has to operate its own government or maintain special privileges.”

“Gold” made Dierks Bentley fall in love with Nashville again

Dierks Bentley‘s “Gold” is fast moving to the top of the country chart.

Penned by Dierks, Ashley GorleyLuke Dick and Ross Copperman, the track boasts uplifting lyrics that encourage listeners to count their blessings amid life’s highs and lows.

“I got some rust on my Chevy but it’s ready to roll/ I got a rhinestone sky and a song in my soul/ It ain’t a smooth ride, life, it’s a winding road/ Yeah, it might be gravel, but it feels like gold,” goes the spirited chorus.

As Dierks shares, what fundamentally attracted him to the song was its message and sonics.

“The song really spoke to me personally, which is important, because I got to go out there and sing it every night,” he notes. “It just had a great message and I felt like the sound was a little bit different sound than I’ve done before. It felt new, but also just felt like a great way to kick off the [Gravel & Gold album].”

Digging deeper, Dierks also reveals how “Gold” made him love and appreciate Nashville again.

“It resonated with me about coming back to Nashville and kind of having to fall back in love with the city,” says Dierks, who returned to Music City after spending the bulk of the pandemic in Colorado. “It’s like, you know, you’re in the rainbow, but you’re still looking for this pot of gold. You don’t even realize you’re already in the rainbow already.”

He adds, “Coming back to Nashville, really, some things I thought felt like gravel, like the traffic, it’s actually gold. It’s a great city. I love this place.”

‘Yellowstone’ star Luke Grimes releases his new single “Hold On”

Yellowstone star Luke Grimes has release his new track titled “Hold On,” produced by Dave Cobb and co-written by Foy Vance and Ilsey Juber. “Hold On” follows Grimes’ previously released singles, “Oh Ohio” and “No Horse To Ride, ” which will all be featured on Grimes’ upcoming debut album.

Grimes shared in a press release why he gravitated toward “Hold On,” saying the song has become one of his personal favorites:  “‘Hold On’ has become one of my favorite songs on the (upcoming) album. Foy Vance is one of my favorite current songwriters, and although he and I couldn’t get together in person, I knew I wanted him to be a part of this album. He had this song that had not been cut, and I immediately fell in love with the words; I felt so connected to it. It’s a familiar feeling, the fear of falling too deeply for someone because you could ultimately get hurt. I think it’s a universal feeling for anyone who has had their heart broken.”

Grimes plays the role of Kayce Dutton on Yellowstone, and got his start in music, playing drums, guitar, and piano in church with a father who worked as a Pentecostal pastor. The 39-year-old actor announced earlier this year he was embarking on his country music career with a simple post on Instagram: “New music coming very soon…,” alongside a set of black and white photos.

Take a listen to “Hold On” – here.

Tyler Hubbard releases ‘Dancin’ in the Country’ demo with Keith Urban

Tyler Hubbard is sharing the creative process which led to his current hit, “Dancin’ In The Country.”  The song is currently in the Top 10 at Country radio and has over 115M global streams.

‘Dancin’ in the Country’ was written by Hubbard, Keith Urban, Ross Copperman and Jon Nite, and now Hubbard is releasing the demo from the day they wrote the song, “Dancin’ In The Country (Demo – feat. Keith Urban).” Originally written and recorded in October 2021, the demo of “Dancin’ In The Country” also features Ross Copperman on keys and programming.

Said Hubbard: “I’ve always admired Keith Urban as a writer, but never had the chance to actually write a song with him. Keith came into the writing session so engaged and ready to go where the ideas took us. Ross and Jon are two of the finest writers in town, and by the end of the day we had a song we all felt was special. It’s exciting to share a behind the scenes look at how a song comes together.”  Added Urban: “Spending a day with Tyler, Ross and Jon in the studio writing this song was a total blast. Especially creating the track with Ross – I love working fast, ideas flowing really quickly- a bass part, a ganjo part, a very intentionally 80s country super compressed electric guitar riff.”
