Tim McGraw debuts ‘Standing Room Only’ video

Tim McGraw has partnered with CMT for the world premiere of the music video for his latest single “Standing Room Only.”

Directed by Andrew Sandler, the video for “Standing Room Only’ features a montage of life’s simple moments with images of McGraw singing from an old car junkyard, reminding us all that life is not about the items we collect, but the memories we make and the impact made in our wake. Said McGraw: “We’re having so much fun seeing how this song hits with people. The response has been incredible, so we wanted to carry that energy through in the video. I love how Andrew and the crew built the car set and lit the junkyard performance. The cars and the lights were such a great metaphor for shedding the past and moving forward.”

Ed Sheeran found not liable in copyright infringement lawsuit

A Manhattan jury found Ed Sheeran not guilty of copyright infringement of Mavin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” for his 2014 song “Thinking Out Loud,” after nearly three hours of deliberation. Sheeran hugged his legal team on Thursday after the verdict was reached.  He told reporters outside the courtroom: “I’m obviously very happy with the outcome of the case. And it looks like I’m not having to retire from my day job after all,  But at the same time, I’m unbelievably frustrated that baseless claims like this are allowed to go to court at all.”

Sheeran had been accused of copying the sheet music for Gaye’s 1973 soul classic by the family of the song’s late co-writer, Ed Tonwshend.  The lawsuit, seeking $100 million in damages, claimed Sheeran used the rhythm, chord progression and other elements for his 2014 Grammy-wining song without permission.

Opening testimony last week by the plaintiffs lawyer, Ben Crump, said the case is “about giving credit where credit is due” and that Sheeran “recognized the magic of ‘Let’s Get It On’” and used the song without permission. Sheeran’s attorney Ilene Farkas said that the singer/songwriter and his co-writer, Amy Wadge, was “born from an emotional conversation” and was the duo’s “original creation.” According to ABC News, Farkas said in court: “We all benefit from artists being free to create and to build on what came before them,” warning the jury that a verdict against Sheeran would mean “creativity will be stifled for fear of being sued.”

Sheeran performed a portion of both songs in court with his guitar, and testified last week that he writes most of his songs within a day, stating he did not stop think about copying elements from Gaye’s song. Sheeran said while on the stand: “If I had done what you’re accusing me of doing I’d be quite an idiot to stand on stage in front of 25,000 people.”

Scotty McCreery taps GUSI for Latin mix of “Why She Gotta Be Like That”

Scotty McCreery has enlisted Colombian singer/songwriter GUSI for a new Latin version of his song “Why She Gotta Be Like That.”

Originally titled “Why You Gotta Be Like That” on his 2021 album Same Truck, the fresh remake features Scotty singing the first half in English before GUSI arrives in the second verse and chorus with his Spanish delivery. Toward the end, the two come together to mix it up with both English and Spanish in the bridge and chorus.

“I’ve always thought it would be fun to bring the Latin part of my heritage into some of my music,” shares Scotty, who is a quarter Puerto Rican. “I met GUSI after hearing him perform ‘Why You Gotta Be Like That’ on Instagram. It is always flattering to have someone cover one of your songs, and he's so talented so I asked him if he would want to bring some Latin flavor to the track.”

“He brought so much to it,” adds Scotty. “It was so much fun to do a new take on this song as a duet with GUSI, so we decided to call this version ‘Why She Gotta Be Like That.'”

“I am very grateful to Scotty and his team for inviting me to participate in this song,” says GUSI. “For me it gives me pride to collaborate with him, since I admire his music a lot. Additionally I have grown up listening to country music and recording this song with this great performer was more than I imagined.”

“Why She Gotta Be Like That” is out on all digital music platforms now.
