SpaceX sued by Justice Department on allegations of discriminatory hiring practices

The United States Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s SpaceX for allegedly discriminating against refugees in its hiring practices.

According to an DOJ news release dates August 24, the lawsuit claims that “from at least September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX routinely discouraged asylees and refugees from applying and refused to hire or consider them, because of their citizenship status, in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)”, and alleges that SpaceX falsely claimed in its job listings that only green card holders and United States citizens could work at the company because of federal export control laws.

The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) applies to companies manufacturing spacecraft and rockets and limit foreign nationals from accessing key information about the vehicles for national security reasons; however, the DOJ’s lawsuit states that regulations such as ITAR do not prevent SpaceX from hiring refugees, whose “permission to live and work in the United States does not expire, and they stand on equal footing with U.S. citizens.

Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in a statement “Our investigation found that SpaceX failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status and imposed what amounted to a ban on their hire regardless of their qualification, in violation of federal law,” adding that recruiters at Spacex “actively discouraged asylees and refugees from seeking work opportunities at the company” and “failed to fairly consider applications submitted to the company by refugees.”

Luke Bryan revisits his high school days, which involved band, drama, church + more

With back-to-school season in full force, country superstar Luke Bryan‘s taking a trip down memory lane to revisit his high school days, which involved being part of a band, athletics and even drama.

“I had my little band. We were doing band rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week and playing little shows. And then I was always pretty athletic, but everybody else grew and I never hit my growth spurt until, really, I got out of high school. So I kind of phased out athletics and really got involved in drama and did a couple [of] state, one-act plays,” Luke recalls to ABC Audio.

As busy as Luke was with extracurricular activities, he also found time to be pretty involved in his local community.

“I always had fun. I worked at the grocery store and, you know, didn’t get in much trouble, but always sang in the church choir and led my local Wednesday night youth groups at church and stuff,” recounts the “But I Got A Beer In My Hand” singer. “So, yeah, I was hitting church and singing on Sundays and trying not to get in any trouble on the weekends.”

You can watch Luke’s life and career chronicled in his original docuseries, Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary, streaming now on Amazon Freevee.

Randy Travis being honored with Texas tribute concert

A tribute concert honoring legendary artist Randy Travis, dubbed ‘A Texas Heroes & Friends Tribute to Randy Travis – 1 Night, 1 Place, 1 Time; will take place on November 15 at the Texas Trust CU Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas. Travis is also being honored with A Heroes & Friends Tribute to Randy Travis – 1 Night, 1 Place, 1 Time, taking place on October 24 in Huntsville, Alabama

Travis’ wife Mary said in a press event that the lineup for the newly-announced event will focus more on Texas-based artists, while the Alabama event will feature artists in Nashville.

Tony Conway, Travis’ manager, says: “Randy Travis’ imprint on country music is transcendent and artists who have followed in his footsteps continuously ask how they can pay tribute to and be around him. His light shines bright and he is still a force to be reckoned with as a champion for country music and our community. We have no doubt that Texans will show up in mass to celebrate his indelible career!”

Travis’ wife Mary says it is an honor to have his music celebrated: “Just to know that he made the music that he made and that it stands the test of time. And then to have tributes to you when you can’t sing the music, but somebody else will come in, step in for you, and some of the great artists that do step in, that say, ‘Hey, I want to be one of those that sings your music’ when they have a whole catalog of their own music. But it’s like, ‘I just want to give this time and this energy to singing your music because it made a difference in my life … And so to have a tribute, that just means you did something right. Somewhere along the line that made a difference. And we don’t want to forget that.”

Tickets for A Texas Heroes & Friends Tribute to Randy Travis – 1 Night, 1 Place, 1 Time event are available now via AXS.com and RandyTravis.com.

Luke Bryan earned his career “the old-fashioned way,” and he's proud of it

Luke Bryan‘s journey to superstardom has been a long one, but he’s grateful to have trekked it with hard work and supportive people in his life.

“For most of my career I went up there going, I got to prove myself. So it's really liberating and gratifying to just go, I am what I am,” Luke recounts to People in a recent interview. “I earned it the old-fashioned way: working my butt off. A lot of people have propped me up and helped me along the way, and I hope they can enjoy the ride too.”

From launching his debut album in 2007 to now, Luke learned a lot about himself both as an artist and person.

“When I was younger, I wouldn't have really known who I was as an artist. Back then I was just singing other people's songs and trying to figure out what I want to be,” he says. “Now I know the main thing is to do your best to tell your story in the most authentic and relatable way.”

“I can't go back and question any of the stars or fate at how it all shaped out,” he adds. “I look back, and I'm proud of my climb to get here.”

Luke’s currently #12 on the country charts with his latest single, “But I Got A Beer In My Hand.”

His Luke Bryan: VEGAS residency kicks back up on August 30. For tickets and a full list of dates, visit rwlasvegas.com.

In an Instagram reel shared recently, the duo teased a snippet of the song and talked about the inspiration behind it.

“To pursue a career in the performing arts is great, but it also comes with a lot of haters. Some days it’s fine but some days it’s a little more difficult and you really just want to tell them to go f*** themselves,” John Osborne shares. “Our mom wouldn’t be very happy with us using that word, so we decided to change it to ‘love.'”

Brothers Osborne’s new self-titled album arrives September 15 and is available for preorder now.

Its lead single, “Nobody’s Nobody,” is currently #27 and rising on the country charts.
