Cole Swindell revisits parents' divorce in “3 Feet Tall”

Cole Swindell isn’t shying away from the emotional aftermath of his parents’ divorce in his new song, “3 Feet Tall.”

Jordan WalkerTrannie Anderson and Trey Lewis wrote the track, which finds Cole chronicling a divorce from the lens of the couple’s young son.

“There’s a lot I don’t remember, but that cryin’ down the hall/ Had a way of makin’ me wonder maybe it was all my fault/ I got stuck in the middle of weekends and holidays/ And my suitcase was too little to carry all that weight/ I might not have understood it all/ But not everything goes over your head/ Even when you’re three feet tall,” Cole recounts in the aching chorus.

“I can’t believe the 1st song from Album 5 is finally out. Songs like these are why I feel in love with Country Music in the first place,” Cole shares on Instagram. “For all of you out there that have lived it in any way, I’m here for you. I’ve been there too.”

“Music is so powerful and I feel like this song is just special,” he adds. “I hope it hits a few of you out there like it does me. Love y’all.”

“3 Feet Tall” is the first preview of Cole’s next studio album. His latest full-length record is 2022’s Stereotype, which spawned the #1 hits “She Had Me at Heads Carolina” and the Lainey Wilson-assisted “Never Say Never.”

Trump gag order is reinstated in New York fraud trial

Former President Donald Trump has been barred from making public comments about court staff in his ongoing civil fraud trial, after a New York appellate court sided with the judge in the case who imposed the gag order after Trump disparaged his clerk, reinstating it. Attorneys for Trump argued the gag order violated U.S. and New York constitutional protections for free speech. They noted that the clerk, Allison Greenfield, is a Democrat, and that she sits next to the judge, often passing him notes.

On the second day of the trial, Oct. 3, New York Judge Arthur Engoron issued a limited gag order after Trump published a social media post about his clerk. Over the next month, Trump and his campaign violated the gag order twice, fining him $15,000. Engoron eventually broadened the order to bar attorneys in the case from commenting on court staff.

After a panel of judges in the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court considered Trump’s request to have the gag order lifted, it was temporarily stayed on Nov. 16. The appeals court ruled against Trump and lifted the stay in a brief order on Thursday; however Judge Engoron immediately advised lawyers in the case that he expects the ruling to be followed: “I intend to enforce the gag orders rigorously and vigorously, and I want to make sure counsel informs their client.”

Trump attorney Christopher Kise said the decision to reinstate the gag order represented “a tragic day for the rule of law … In a country where the First Amendment is sacrosanct, President Trump may not even comment on why he thinks he cannot get a fair trial. Hard to imagine a more unfair process and hard to believe this is happening in America.”

Trump, his two adult sons and their company have already been found liable for fraud in the case, in which they’re accused of benefiting at least $250 million through a decade-long scheme to artificially inflate Trump’s net worth during deals with banks and insurers. The former president and his co-defendants have denied all wrongdoing, blaming accountants for any inaccuracies in their financial statements. President Trump is expected to be re-called as a witness by his own lawyers on Dec. 11.

Chayce Beckham's “This Ol' Rodeo” is inspired by a true story

Chayce Beckham has released his brand new song, “This Ol’ Rodeo.”

Chayce and Stephen Wilson Jr. penned the breezy neo-traditional ode, which chronicles a longtime passion Chayce’s friend had.

“‘This Ol’ Rodeo’ is a song I wrote about a buddy of mine who was a steer wrestler, a bulldogger, and I used to live with him when I was in high school,” Chayce tells ABC Audio. “[He] and I went to a lot of rodeo practices. And then I found out what it was like to love something that could hurt you or something that doesn’t always love you back.”

“I was like, ‘Man, you kind of got to be crazy,'” the American Idol alum recalls. “That’s where that song comes from. It’s about loving something that can’t love you back and that’s hard to hold on to.”

“This Ol’ Rodeo” was preceded by Chayce’s earlier releases “Whiskey on the Wall,” “Little Less Lonely” and “Till the Day I Die.” He’s currently #17 and ascending the country charts with “23.”

Kenny Chesney adds soccer stadium dates to his 2024 ‘Sun Goes Down’ Tour

Just weeks after announcing his 2024 ‘Sun Goes Down Tour’, Kenny Chesney is expanding his tour dates by adding three new soccer stadium dates, as well as two more dates at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

The now 23-date tour includes the previously announced dates were set for NFL stadiums, as well as at the new tour stops in MLS venues. Says Chesney: “In a lot of ways, soccer stadiums are the best of both worlds. You have the same kind of intimacy that you get in an amphitheater, but it’s big enough you have the ability to really hit the accelerator in terms of energy, music, connecting. It’s a relatively new thing for us to have soccer stadiums, but these are markets where I know there are people who aren’t getting tickets – and everyone in No Shoes Nation knows how I feel about no citizen of our crew left behind.”

Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker will support Chesney during two new shows in Ohio (June 29 and Aug. 8) and another in Utah (July 16). Zac Brown Band is also scheduled as support for the majority of the tour.  For full list of tour dates, head to Chesney’s official website.

Shakira reaches deal to settle Spain tax fraud case

The Associated Press reported that Colombian pop star Shakira reached a deal with Spanish prosecutors on the first day of her tax fraud trial in Barcelona, and will avoid prison time. Prosecutors were seeking a sentence of eight years and two months for Shakira plus a fine, but instead she will receive a three-year suspended sentence and a fine of 7.3 million euros ($8 million), plus an extra 432,000 euros ($472,000) in exchange for her suspended sentence.

Shakira said in a statement through her PR firm: “I have made the decision to finally resolve this matter with the best interest of my kids at heart who do not want to see their mom sacrifice her personal well-being in this fight. I need to move past the stress and emotional toll of the last several years and focus on the things I love, my kids and all the opportunities to come in my career.”

Prosectors alleged that Shakira failed to pay the Spanish government more than 14.5 million euros (about $15.8 million) in taxes owed between 2012 and 2014.  In November 2022, Shakira’s defense team claimed she had not spent more than 60 days a year in Spain during the period in question (her official residence is in the Bahamas). Her public relations firm had said she had not only paid the Spanish government what she initially owed, but also an additional 3 million euros (about $3.2 million) in interest.

A separate investigation is still ongoing, in which Spanish state prosecutors have charged Shakira with evading 6.7 million euros (about $7.3 million) in tax on her 2018 income, via an offshore company in a tax haven.
