Nashville notes: New tunes from Jonathan Hutcherson, Mackenzie Carpenter + more

Up-and-comer Jonathan Hutcherson has dropped a feel-good song, “Outta Here.” “This one is near and dear to my heart. It's about getting to your roots and getting back to things that make you you,” says Jonathan, who co-wrote the track with Devin DawsonMark Trussell and Ava Suppelsa

The Valory Music Co.’s Mackenzie Carpenter has given her song “Country Girls (Just Wanna Have Fun)” the remix treatment. “My parents surprised everybody at my wedding with learning the choreography to the song and the whole place erupted into a cheers and dancing-it was a moment I'll never forget,” says Mackenzie. “With the remix, I wanted to just kick it up that much more. I hope it becomes a soundtrack for good times.”

Dalton Dover has rolled out his cover of John Denver‘s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” “Growing up, this one was a fun singalong, but now I like to play when I'm feeling a little homesick while I'm touring,” Dalton says of the hit. “It's a little reminder that soon enough, I'll be on those roads that lead me back home.”

Rising singer/songwriter Redferrin has announced his Warner Music Nashville debut EP, Old No. 7, with a new song, “Doin’ Life.” “It feels good to finally be releasing a project rather than singles. I got to be super hands-on and craft the stories the way I wanted them to be told, and it's very special to me,” Redferrin says of his forthcoming project, adding that “Doin’ Life” was “one of the most vulnerable songs I’ve released.” Old No. 7 arrives February 16 and can be presaved now.

Mitchell Tenpenny drops real-life-inspired “Breaking My Heart”

Mitchell Tenpenny is kicking off his next music chapter with a new song, “Breaking My Heart.”

Mitchell penned the track with Ashley GorleyChase McGill and Jordan Schmidt, which depicts a guy’s desire to put an old flame behind him for good.

“Aw, baby, don’t you kinda wanna stay in tonight?/ Or at least go walkin’ into some other bar/ Don’t you need a break from breakin’ my heart?/ I said, baby, won’t you let me get on with my life?/ ‘Cause everywhere I go, it’s like there you are/ Don’t you need a break from breakin’ my heart?/ From breakin’ my heart,” Mitchell sings in the midtempo chorus.

“‘Breaking My Heart’ was written about going through a break up and trying to get your ex off your mind. You keep trying to do things and go different places but it seems like every single thing reminds you of them,” he shares.

“I remember once during a break up, I kept seeing her specific car (make, model, and color) all the time. They were just driving around me every day. I couldn't escape it,” adds Mitchell. “So that concept was what I thought about when I came up with the idea for this song.”

“Breaking My Heart” is the first new release following Mitchell’s 2022 album, This Is The Heavy, which spawned his latest top 10 single, “We Got History.”

Cody Johnson and his wife Brandi‘s love story takes center stage in the music video for “The Painter.”

“My favorite lyric in ‘The Painter’ is ‘for every wall I built, she saw a canvas.’ If there's anything that describes my marriage with my wife, Brandi, it's that line,” Cody says of his latest single. “And that's why we've been together for 15 years.”

“I hope my fans are encouraged to take the time to appreciate the people they have around them. The ones who make their life beautiful and bring all the beautiful colors to their world when it could just be black and white and dark,” he adds. “Remember them and tell them you love them.”

Eric Church + Morgan Wallen tease collab with 'Field & Stream'

Eric Church and Morgan Wallen are teasing an upcoming collaboration with outdoors magazine Field & Stream.

The teaser video arrived on Eric and Morgan’s Instagram Friday, January 19, and features Eric narrating a unifying message to Americans.

“What is it that makes us Americans? Is it our faith? Our beliefs? Our shared sense of community? Our culture?” Eric questions over cinematic outdoor clips. “Or is it a fly rod in a majestic canyon? Is it a First Lite, first time for your firstborn in a midwestern field? Is it the smell of a campfire in a familiar holler? Four lifetime friends, four half-empty glasses and one more full bottle.”

“Since 1871, we’ve been part of that conversation,” he adds. “And like all Americans, we sometimes lost our way. But like America, we always find our way back.”

The video includes footage of Eric and Morgan bonding over fishing out on a lake.

Not much more information is shared, but Field & Stream’s website states, “Our next chapter is just around the corner.”

All will be revealed soon on January 25. While you wait, you can check out the teaser video on Instagram.
