Rifle of shooter at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood megachurch had ‘Palestine’ written on it

According to senior law enforcement officials, the assault style-type rifle used by the woman shot and killed Sunday afternoon at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston had “Palestine” written on it. Police have stated that two off-duty officers at the church returned fire, striking the shooter and killing her at about 1:50 p.m. The child, identified as the shooters’ son, was also struck during the incident and was in critical condition. Police Chief Troy Finner said at a news conference that the boy was approximately 5 years old.

Osteen said that the shooting happened between services as people were arriving for Spanish service. About 45,000 people attend services there every week, making it one of the largest megachurches in the country. In a statement on Facebook, Osteen urged his congregation to lean on their faith to cope with anguish: “Our community is devastated by today’s events and grateful for the swift actions of law enforcement. Together, we will rise above this tragedy and stand firm in our commitment to love and support one another.”

The shooter, identified as Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, also made several undisclosed statements during the course of the incident, and law enforcement officials added that Moreno previously went by another male name. Moreno also stated she had a bomb, but a search of the vehicle showed there were no explosive devices. Police Chief Finner  said that one of the off-duty officers involved the incident is an agent with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and the other is a Houston police officer. Officials are investigating possible motives, but have not conclusively say what led to the shooting. They have not ruled out terrorism or hate crime-related motives.

Law enforcement records also revealed that Moreno had at least six prior arrests since 2005, including unlawful carrying of a weapon, which she pleaded guilty to; evading arrest; and assault on a public official, which was pleaded to a lesser charge.

Lainey's “Country's Cool Again” may remind you of Barbara Mandrell's “I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool”

Don’t be surprised if “Country’s Cool Again” nostalgically reminds you of Barbara Mandrell‘s “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool.” As Lainey Wilson recalls, she, too, noticed similarities when she wrote it.

“When we were writing the song, I was like, ‘This is like [‘I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool’], 2.0. I do think that country music has always been cool,” Lainey tells ABC Audio. ” But I think for me at least, it’s really cool to be a part of this generation of country music.”

The present-day class of country artists isn’t much different from the ’90s, says Lainey. Just like before, acts typically possess unique qualities in their artistry and sound that differ from the rest.

“I feel like everybody [listens] to sounds different. Everybody looks different. Everybody’s got a different story. There’s nothing bleeding over,” Lainey notes. “When you turn on the radio, you know who everybody is. And I think that’s how it was in the ’90s. You knew the artist and then you knew the music too. And I’m proud to be a part of this generation.”

“Country’s Cool Again” arrives on digital platforms February 16 and is available for presave now. While you wait, check out a preview clip of the song now on Lainey’s Instagram.

Lainey’s current single, “Wildflowers and Wild Horses,” is in the top 15 of the country charts.

‘Lasso’ will feature Lana’s regular collaborator, producer and ‘Bleachers’ frontman Jack Antonoff, as well as country music maker Luke Laird.  Said Lana: “If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. Most recently, Lana previewed a new country song, ‘Henry, Come On’, on her social media.

In other news, Lana will headline several festivals this summer, including ‘Reading & Leeds’ alongside Liam Gallagher and Blink-182, ‘Primavera Sound’, also featuring The National, Pulp and SZA, ‘Hangout Festival’ with ODESZA and Zach Bryan, and ‘Coachella’ alongside Tyler, The Creator and Doja Cat.

Parker McCollum covers John Mayer's “Perfectly Lonely”

Feeling a little lonely this Valentine’s Day? Fret not, Parker McCollum‘s got you covered with his version of John Mayer‘s “Perfectly Lonely.”

The track originally arrived in 2009 as part of John’s RIAA-certified double-Platinum fourth album, Battle Studies, and was rolled out as a single in 2010.

“Nothing to do/ Nowhere to be/ A simple little a kind of free/ Nothing to do/ No one but me/ And that’s all I need,” Parker sings in the pre-chorus before proclaiming in the chorus, “I’m perfectly lonely/ I’m perfectly lonely/ I’m perfectly lonely/ Yeah/ Cause I don’t belong to anyone/ And nobody belongs to me.”

While Parker portrays a lonely man in his cover, the “Pretty Heart” singer is far from lonely in real life.

Parker and his wife, Hallie Ray, recently announced that they’re expecting their first child later this year. The couple got married March 2022 in Tomball, Texas.

Parker’s latest album is 2023’s Never Enough, which features the #1 hit “Handle on You” and its current single, “Burn It Down,” which is in the top 10 of the country charts.
