Darius Rucker gets personal in new memoir, 'Life's Too Short'

Darius Rucker‘s getting personal in his new memoir, Life’s Too Short.

Out Tuesday, the book chronicles Darius’ music journey, personal life, frayed relationships with family members and more.

When asked which chapter was most meaningful to him, Darius told NBC’s Today, “The Nanci Griffith chapter that I wrote about my mom when she was in a coma and when she died. Reading that back brought me to tears. That was very meaningful to me. That was most meaningful of all of them.”

In a separate interview with People, Darius also shared how chronicling his frayed relationship with his late father became an unexpected therapeutic, tear-jerking moment.

“When I did write about it, I started thinking about, ‘Wow, that really affected me a lot more than I thought it did.’ Even when I did the audiobook, there were some times where I caught myself holding back tears. Reading those things that affected me so much, but I just pretended they didn't,” he told People.

“It was very therapeutic for me. It helped me. My therapist got a lot of work for me writing that book. It brought up a lot of stuff that I wanted to deal with. Because I hadn't dealt with those traumas, I just let them go,” said Darius. “And now I get to deal with them because I wrote that book, and I think about them.”

Life’s Too Short is available wherever you get books now.

Suspect in custody after stabbing attack injures 6 in Massachusetts

A suspect is in custody after a stabbing attack injured four girls (aged 9-17) at a movie theater, and two additional people at a McDonald’s in Massachusetts.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jared Christian Ravizza of Martha’s Vineyard, is accused of the unprovoked attack on Saturday before leading police on a car chase to Cape Cod. He will face charges including assault with intent to murder, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Ravizza is currently in a local hospital receiving medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to a statement from the Braintree, MA police, the suspect entered AMC Braintree 10 around 6 p.m. where he suddenly attacked and stabbed four girls before he ran out of the theater and drove away in what appeared to be a black SUV. The girls were taken to Boston hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. Shortly after that incident, a vehicle matching the description was reportedly involved in a similar assault at a McDonald’s at the Route 3 rest area in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Responding medical personnel found a 21-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both of whom had non-life threatening knife lacerations; both were hospitalized for treatment.

State police said that Ravizza was arrested around 7:15 p.m. after leading police on a car chase that ended in a fiery crash in Sandwich, Massachuetts, and was taken into custody.  In addition to the stabbing incidents in Massachusetts, Ravizza has also been linked to a murder investigation at a home in Deep River, Connecticut, with Connecticut State Police sharing in a statement that officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a Deep River address where upon arrival, they located a dead body. While Ravizza was not identified by name, Connecticut State Police said “a suspect in this investigation has been taken into custody in the State of Massachusetts.”

George Birge is ready to ride the success of “Cowboy Songs”

As a singer/songwriter, it’s no secret that George Birge has penned many, many songs in his career. But when it comes to picking a favorite, his “Mind on You” follow-up single sits atop the list.

‘Cowboy Songs’ is probably my favorite song that I’ve ever written. We’ve never had a crowd reaction live like [there’s] been to that song, and it’s come out of the gates faster than anything I’ve ever done,” George tells ABC Audio. “It’s as proud as I’ve ever been of new music, and I cannot wait to see [where] we go with that.”

The romantic ode is off George’s seven-track EP – a project that George hopes offers fans an inside look at who he is.

“‘Cowboy Songs’ is the title track of my brand new EP, which is also called Cowboy Songs. I felt like that was a good overarching theme for it,” he says. “It’s all just honest and real to me, and more than anything, I feel like people just hopefully know me a little bit better after listening to it.”

“Cowboy Songs” is currently in the top 40 and making its way up the country charts.

George’s got a busy touring schedule ahead with opening slots on Parker McCollum, Sam Hunt and Luke Bryan‘s respective tours.

George Strait debuts song from upcoming LP ‘Cowboys And Dreamers’ titled “MIA Down in MIA”

George Strait debuted the first release from his 31st album, Cowboys And Dreamers, with the song “MIA Down in MIA”.   Cowboys and Dreamers will be the followup to 2019’s Honky Tonk Time Machine, which opened at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Written by Adam Craig and Dean Dillon, and produced by Strait with Chuck Ainlay, MIA Down in MIA features the Strait’s Ace in the Hole Band, including longtime fiddle player Gene Elder. Said George of the song: “I’m dedicating this record to my longtime manager and friend Erv Woolsey and my longtime fiddle player and friend Gene Elders (a player on four of these tracks), who we lost on the same day, March 20, 2024, as well as my longtime friend and road manager Tom Foote, who we lost on April 29, 2024. I will never forget all of the good times we had together. May they rest in peace with our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Strait announced he will release Cowboys And Dreamers during his show earlier this month at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of NFL franchise Indianapolis Colts. Said Strait: “We got some new stuff, too, I’m gonna throw in throughout the night, because I broke down and did another record, and I’m gonna play a few of those for you tonight.” The 71-year-old also shared several new songs from the forthcoming album, including “Three Drinks Behind,” and was joined by Chris Stapleton on two numbers, “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame” and “You Don’t Know What You’re Missing”.

Strait is also on the road with his stadium tour, featuring Stapleton and Little Big Town; visit georgestrait.com for tickets and other information.

Take a listen to Miranda Lambert’s new song ‘Wranglers’

Miranda Lambert has dropped her first music since signing with her new label Republic Records with the new song ‘Wranglers,’ written by Audra Mae (who also sings on the track) Evan McKeever and Ryan Carpenter. Lambert first debuted the song with a live performance at the Stagecoach Festival.

Lambert says of the song: ‘Wranglers’ is a classic tale of a woman taking her power back. I think we can all identify with the character in this song, because we have all had a time in our life where we needed to find our strength, and also get a little revenge on someone who did us wrong or hurt us. This offers such a cool, raging take on how something like this unravels; I think the songwriters nailed it.”  Lambert adds: “I am so proud to sing this song. It feels like it could have been on the same record as ‘Gunpowder & Lead’ in a lot of ways. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned is a pretty powerful statement, and the way it’s written, you can tell, we’re not kidding.”
