2 children among 9 injured in shooting at recreational splash pad in Michigan

Two children were among nine people injured after a shooter opened fire at a splash pad in a Detroit suburb over the weekend. Police describe the incident, which took place on Saturday afternoon in Rochester Hills, Mich., as a “random” shooting and trying to determine a motive. The alleged gunman, 42-year white Michael William Nash from Shelby Township, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a home he shared with his mother.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said during a news conference that an 8-year-old boy was shot in the head and his 4-year-old brother was shot in the leg; the older boy remains in critical condition, while the younger child is in stable condition. Their mother, 39, was also among the victims after being wounded in the abdomen and leg; she was listed in stable condition. The other adult victims ranged in age from 30 to 78.

Sheriff Bouchard said Saturday that the suspect pulled up to the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad just after 5 p.m. at a city park featuring a recreation area. The suspect left his vehicle, and opened fire from roughly 20 feet away with a Glock 9mm handgun, reloading multiple times and firing “potentially 28 times.” Bouchard said the attack appeared to be random, with at least one witness reporting that the shooter appeared to use two hand guns during the attack, but that has not yet been confirmed. Bouchard said police will continue to investigate for a motive and look for shell casings, but also said there appeared to be no connection between the shooter and the victims.

2 dead, multiple injured in shooting at Juneteenth celebration in Texas

Two people are dead and 14 others were injured after a shooting at a Juneteenth celebration in Texas. Police in Round Rock, TX (located less than 20 miles north of Austin), said that the incident took place on Saturday night when a fight broke out between two groups at the Old Settlers Park at about 11 p.m. local time. Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said early Sunday that at the same time, someone produced a gun and began to fire, adding that multiple people were struck by gunfire.

Police Chief Banks said during a media briefing: “We’re very disappointed and angry with these events. This is the 16th year of this Juneteenth event, and for someone to destroy the peace and celebration within an instance, it angers me.” Most of the wounded victims have since been released from area hospitals with the remaining victims listed in stable condition and should be released “within the next day or so”. The victims’ ages range from 10 to 62 years old.

Police have asked for the public’s help in locating a suspect in connection with the shooting during a Juneteenth celebration that left two dead and 14 others injured, adding that the suspect is “armed and dangerous” and warned the public not to approach him if spotted. Police said Sunday night in a post on X that they are looking for a suspect with a “thin build, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, short dreadlocks, and wearing a white hoodie at the time of the incident.”

Banks said in a message to the suspect: “Turn yourself in. If you’re man enough to carry a gun and pull the trigger, be man enough to step up. Turn yourself in. Let’s figure out why you chose to take lives and injure people.” Banks said he plans to release the names of the two who were killed in the shooting on Monday: “My thoughts and my prayers go out to the victims. My condolences go out to the families of the deceased.”

Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan released the following statement: “I know Round Rock residents are devastated as they wake up to the terrible news of last night’s tragic events. To the families who are mourning the loss of loved ones, please know that our entire community mourns with you. To those who were injured, we are here to support you in your recovery. We are a community that values safety, celebration and unity, and we are committed to ensuring that our community heals through this event together. We will not let this incident define us, nor will we let fear take hold. Instead, we will support each other, offer help where it is needed, and remain united in our resolve to make Round Rock a safe and welcoming place for all.”

Anyone with video or information about the incident is asked to reach out to the Round Rock Police Department at 512-218-5500.

Kelsea Ballerini says life-changing 'Welcome Mat' EP was “the anomaly of my career”

The creation process behind Kelsea Ballerini‘s Rolling Up the Welcome Mat (For Good) may have been unorthodox, but it came together in the best way possible.

“I sound like a broken record because I say it all the time. But Welcome Mat has just been the anomaly of my career because I wrote it so differently than I would any other album,” Kelsea tells the press. “I had just written my, like, proper 13-song – you know, through the label, A&R [artist and repertoire] – record. And then I very quietly was obviously going through a very big life change.”

“I made this record really selfishly, like truly for myself, and didn’t worry about where the songs would fit or if they would work in X, Y and Z,” she shares.

Now, Kelsea embraces her opportunities to sing these deeply personal, life-changing songs live.

“It was just like creative freedom and emotional freedom, and it changed my life. And so anytime I get to play these songs now, the songs that I swore I would never play live, now they’re the songs that I look forward to the most,” says Kelsea.

You can catch Kelsea performing on the Jelly Roll and Ashley McBryde-hosted CMA Fest television special, airing June 25 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Charlie Puth releases his new song “Hero”

Charlie Puth is back with new music, posting on Instagram: ‘My new song HERO is about when you see someone you love hurting themselves, ruining the things in their life that are good, but you just can’t save them. It’s one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to write, but I wrote it in hopes that you’ve gone through something similar in your life, and that it can fill in the BLANK for you like it did for me. I’m very excited to share my next album with you, especially this song because it’s a great representation of what’s to come. I’ve never put out a song like this before- it’s very different for me, but I want to thank @taylorswift for letting me know musically that I just couldn’t keep this on my hard drive any longer. HERO is yours on May 24th and this is the single artwork. Thank you to all of my fans- you’ll never know how much you mean to me…’

The 32-year-old singer-songwriter said that he decided to release the song after being inspired by fellow singer Taylor Swift, who referenced Puth on her song “The Tortured Poets Department,” which features the lyric, “We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.”

“Hero” is Puth’s second song of 2024, following his collaboration with K-pop group Stray Kids, “Lose My Breath” featuring Charlie Puth. He released his most recent album, Charlie, in October 2022.

Nashville notes: New tracks from Caylee Hammack, Billy Currington + more

Caylee Hammack is introducing her forthcoming new project with a soaring number, “The Hill.” “‘The Hill’ is written from a place of a sad surrender, like a white flag being waved by a broken arm. It’s the battle that feels like the end of the war of love with this person, but you’re not quite ready for it to all end,” shares Caylee. “So you finally just surrender, not caring whether you were right or they were right, you just don’t want to lose the person on The Hill you were fighting on.”

Billy Currington‘s paying homage to small-town life with his new song “Everything Is Changing.” “Everything’s changing now/ I barely recognize my favorite town/ Yeah, everything that made me/ Is turning into memories/ And time ain’t slowing down/ Everything is changing now,” Billy reflects in the midtempo chorus. Billy’s forthcoming #1's Vol. 1 project arrives July 5 and is available for preorder now.

Country up-and-comer Tanner Adell‘s dropped “Too Easy.” The track joins Luke Combs‘ “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma,” Bailey Zimmerman‘s “Hell or High Water,” Megan Moroney‘s “Never Left Me” and Tucker Wetmore‘s “Already Had It” as previews of Twisters: The Album, arriving July 19.

Jelly Roll talks fatherhood, building a “proper home” with wife Bunnie XO

As his career is skyrocketing, Jelly Roll said he’s simply feeling blessed these days.

The “Need a Favor” singer, 39, is fresh off his first-ever Grammy nominations and is the reigning CMA Awards new artist of the year – but he’s also just a family man when at home with wife Bunnie XO and his two children.

He is a dad to his 16-year-old daughter, Bailee, and 7-year-old son, Noah, both from previous relationships.

Jelly Roll told Good Morning America at CMA Fest 2024 that he’s looking forward to Father’s Day and revealed how he would ideally like to spend the holiday.

“Sitting on a boat somewhere with a bobber floating,” he laughed.

Jelly and his wife recently opened up about their desire to add another child to their household, and the singer revealed why he believes now is the perfect time for them to expand their family.

“I think we’re both really comfortable and stable,” he said. “I think both of us have kind of been runners our whole life and never felt real stability.”

He added, “Neither one of us came from proper home lives, so I think that we feel like we built a proper home.”

As for his professional life, Jelly, who released his new single “I Am Not Okay” on Wednesday, teased he’s got a “lot of new music” on the way.

“I’m writing more than I’ve ever wrote,” he said. “I’ve never been more inspired and met more people and heard more stories that I feel like I need to share – not for myself, but for them.”
